Interesting conflict at AMT

See what I mean? How pathetic is this already? (And I notice for all your sentence-parsing you had no commentary on my notion of what authentically makes life difficult.)

It's like this: most of us here, as you pointed out, are more than a match for you intellectually. It's simply that, with jobs, responsibilities, and the like, we come here for fun and respite, which for most of us doesn't constitute wasting hours and hours arguing with trolls. While it's clearly fun for you, most of the rest of us just find it a pain in the ass and a colossal waste of time.

Speaking of which, I've already wasted enough time on this rather silly thread. You made your case, Drew. If you're really the advocate of free expression you imagine yourself to be, you'll let other people make theirs, without jumping down everyone's throat who disagrees with you. Free expression isn't about just "gimme" and "I want," you know.

One last quick note: I've NEVER found my freedom of expression limited on the TMF, which I attribute to generally trying to be polite to others and respect the fact that they are, in fact, people.

It's a delicate balance, to be sure. On one hand, I get told that the thread itself or perhaps my part in it (I'm not sure which) is pathetic. A valid opinion I'll grant. On the other hand, if I don't respond to questions put to me, I'm "evading." Whatever. As far as your commentary on your notion of what authentically makes life difficult, I would say that phrase covers a very large area, of which the things you mention are but a small part. I'm also certain that what constitutes difficulty differs from person to person. You're right that it has nothing to do with a desire to call people names on the internet, but it neither does it contradict my analogy either, as I never advocated such behavior.[

You speak as if the only alternative to a moderated forum is to spend hours and hours arguing with trolls. Use that superior intellect of yours and figure out the concepts of ignoring or filtering.

I'm noticing a trend with some of you anti-free-speech crowd. Some of you like to make your points and then attempt to preclude any rebuttal by employing the age old "I've wasted enough time with this silly thread" or "this is my final post on the subject." Who do you think you're kidding? If you thought it was silly, you'd have skipped right over it in the first place. You obviously had a reason for responding and there should be no embarrassment about it.

As for "jumping down everyone's throat" who expressed opposing opinions, I think that's a bit unfair. I generally treat people how they treat me. If they come across with sarcasm and derision, I presume that's their preferred mode of communication, and follow suit. If they sincerely and respectfully offer opposing opinions, I try to do likewise. If you talk down to people, expect to be talked down to. It's that simple.

You don't really strike me as being that respectful, but then again it would be unfair to make such a judgement based on this "silly" thread, I'm sure. Still, that's encouraging to hear. A tribute to Myriads and his fine staff, of whom we all owe thanks and gratitude.

flame bait?

What do you (as Mods and members) call the "get a life" and "you have too much time on your hands" posts complete with the "Drew's daily schedule" broken down by dodger?

Advice? Productive living tips?

We call it motivation.

Yeah right. It's flame bait.
I expected a more thoughtful response from a "Tzar".
Instead I got a "aww, shucks...we're trying" smartass reply.
Thanks.

Yes, it was flame bait, and we missed it. We do miss things. Thus my comment that it's motivation when it was pointed out. It's motivation to try and do better.

Not meant as a smartass reply, but sadly it was clearly one that failed to communicate my intent. My error.

Thanks for clearing that up. Ni-ice!
I read it as "motivation" from the posted-person P.O.V..

A simple misunderstanding of a few posted words.
No big thang.

I can see why Drew likes this place.

You're an M.C. [Master Communicator], Myriads, as stated previously in this very cool thread.
