Here's another oldie you don't hear too often these days:

Bobby Bloom - "Montego Bay" (1970)

I don't think Wishbone Ash has been mentioned in this thread.

And would you believe that comedian Bill Cosby had a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Charts in 1967? Maybe this was the first real Rap record. After all, Bill samples Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything Is Alright)" and he 'raps' throughout the entire song. Just something to think about. I used to hear this song a lot on the radio back then.

I wasn't much into Reggae until I bought this album back in 1979. The clip features my favorite song from that album:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hUNQ_cmISVk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hUNQ_cmISVk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Bob Marley & The Wailers - "Zimbabwe" (1979)

Back to some more Classic Rock.

This is one of my all time favorite songs on so many levels. It's not only one of the very first heavy metal songs but it's also one of my favorite cover versions. Diana Ross & The Supremes did it first in 1966, but Vanilla Fudge created a rock masterpiece with it in 1968. And they're the only recording artists with the word 'vanilla' in their name that I will listen to:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UFz_6f1XRtQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UFz_6f1XRtQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Vanilla Fudge - "Illusions Of My Childhood (Part I)/You Keep Me Hanging On/ Illusions Of My Childhood (Part II)" (1968)

James Jamerson, Virtuoso Of The Bass

2937.jpg

James Jamerson (January 29, 1938-August 2, 1983)
Gotta pay my respects to James Jamerson, the bass player who appeared on nearly every Motown Records song ever released back in the 1960s and the early '70s. There are tons of songs I could've chosen to post here, but these are the ones I feel really showcase James' fantastic skills (wear headphones if you got 'em):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9pYux5-d1Es&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9pYux5-d1Es&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Stevie Wonder - "I Was Made To Love Her" (1967)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vuEeia0KIUU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vuEeia0KIUU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Stevie Wonder - "For Once In My Life" (1968)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3MALBTAG3-I&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3MALBTAG3-I&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Diana Ross - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (1970)

And here's one by the Jackson Five that many haven't heard unless you bought a copy of their "Third Album", but it's worth it just for the bassline only:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ND-iW51idC0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ND-iW51idC0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
The Jackson Five - "Darling Dear" (1970)

Many of you may remember Michael Nesmith as the wool hat wearing Monkee from back in the 1960s, but aside from creating what would become known as Music Television (MTV) he also had a few groovy hits back in the '70s, and these are a couple of my favorites. So, without further ado, here's some Michael for you:
