"i guess we should just do as they say for the moment, unless anybody has any ideas." Reno comments. Probably wouldn't do to upset there current captors, unless there was a purpose to it. Wouldn't serve anybody any good to get flogged or put in the stocks.
 
Melissana whispers quietly, "Should we get one of them to come in? Maybe we could use that to escape."

(OOC: Kalamos, I'm not sure how thing should work in the sandbox. Should we wait to see what you do, or engineer & GM an escape attempt ourselves?)
 
I can't reveal my plans, now, how could I? 😉

No matter how hard you tug and struggle, you have to give in.
The chains were hammered in place: they are plain unpickable and unbreakable.

You can only guess many other slaves tried fleeing, before, and the slave-drivers had to plan accordingly.
The wagon must be built around thick iron rods, and metal loops were welded shut in the making.

Nothing sort of a fully equiped squad of Kathic smiths can pry you free from this predicament: the slave train is pretty much escape-proof.

I was just checking to see if "Sandbox" meant "players are the GMs" or whether you had something in store for us.

Since you do have something in store for us, I'll eagerly anticipate it. 🙂

This particular Sandbox is going to be a bit different: I am actively overseeing your game, while most boxes are the "players-are-GMs" kind.

Also, they usually are "named", and they work as a free-for-all space for new players to get familiar with the game.
 
Realizing that escape is not possible at this time, he looks to his two companions and asks quietly, "So you are a thief and you are a baker, what led you to these choices in life?"
 
Melissana waits for a moment for Reno to respond, then replies. "I've always liked preparing food. It's...it's something real. When I bake a good loaf of bread, I know I've made something. Something useful. You know, they say bread came from the gods. And I've always been good at baking.

The rest, cakes and sweetmeats and the like, I learned as an apprentice. I guess...I knew I needed to do something. A younger girl in a big family can't expect to be supported forever. And my parents couldn't afford a dowery. So when I got the chance to 'prentice myself as a baker, I thought it was a gift from the gods. Later...later I thought it might have been a curse.
 
"Poverty." Reno says with a slight smirk. "What can i say? i like the high life." Reno shrugs. "However, i make it a rule not to steal from the poor. Besides, the rich are always more fun to steal from."
 
"And yourself, Shom?" asks Melissana. The she looks around nervously, holding a finger to her lips.

"They'll be angry if we keep talking," she whispers.
 
Shom points to the brand on his right arm that indicates that he is a House slave, then simply shrugs.

Melissana nods but does not answer for fear of angering the guards. She sits quietly, waiting to see what happens next.
 
(OOC: Kalamos hasn't been on for a couple of days. I assume he's busy, or having some kind of connection problems. It seems like we should wait for whatever he has planned. Although we could bend things just a bit... Maybe Reno (or Shom or both?) manages to slip free of the chains just enough to teach Melissana a lesson about stealing? 😉 )
 
I'm not away, and my connection isn't acting up on me. Yet. 😉
It's just the normal pace of the game.

When you are fed up with chatting, we can zip to the next location.
You'll resume playing under cassandra's narration.
 
(OOC: Ummm... I think we're ready to move on then. I kinda figured the guards getting annoyed at the chitchat was a signal to shut up. Whether or not that was the plan, we're all being quiet now.)
 
It just was what real slave drivers would do, if their prey were amiably chatting like that.
I'll keep in mind your chars can be easily bullied into compliance. 😉


The planks creak painfully, as the wagon bumps along the uneven road.
The overhanging rod rings as metal is being jostled against wood.

From nearby carts other prisoners let out pitiful moans and you can hear the manhunters knocking against the wagons, and barking out curses at their quarry.

Scared into submission, you can only ponder on your gloomy situation, as the train slowly trudges through the rolling hills.

They got to know each other. They are ready for the main continuum.

Do I create the location thread where they join the main story? Or are they on their way to a location that already has a thread?
 
The original plan was to create a mid-way location between Bisanthium and Arthenas, and allow them to escape.
 
Ooc: And you want me to create the thread for the midway location. I thought you were the one who created new location threads? Anyway, if the purpose of the midway location is so that they can escape, they can just do it in this thread. The new location thread is made only after they escape and reach a major location such as Bisanthium.

I did my part, introducing them to the game, but they now claim they are ready for the real thing.

They are already familiar with you, so you could start where I left them off.
Of course you can follow my original plan or create one on your own.
