When I see someone make a typo in the subject line of a new thread I just leave it alone. I don't like to mess with a thread that's not mine if there wasn't any rule breakage going on. But do you think we should start correcting typos? it may make some things come up in searches better and it would probably make the forums look a little neater. Please tell me what you think.

Miss-spellings or improper capitalization/punctuation can sometimes be done for effect. Correcting precieved mistakes might be premature without knowing the poster's mind. Then again, I just recently had a typo in the title of one of my threads fixed, to my massive relief and gratitude. My suggestion would be for posters to request correction of title errors in the body of their thread (possibly on the first line). That way, there would be no question as to intent. This request information could easily be deleted by the poster once the problem is solved.

I'd say yes if title is misleading because of typos, or lacking proper labels.

Fixing typos in threads is easier than most users think; only mods can do it, though, so you have to drop them a line if you spot bad typos around.

Else, it's up to individual taste. Most people won't nag you about spelling.
[Well... except me, but I am evil... 😉 ]

That's my philosophy too.

Yep, I know.
Just because you are right doesn't mean I have to disagree.

😉

[No, wait... doesn't make sense... 😀 ]

I say yes too, it looks better when there are no typos in the subject line of a thread. It also makes a reply to a thread or a story more enjoyable to read when there are no typos or spelling errors but I know it would not be practical for the mods to correct all the typos and spellling errors that are in many of the replies or stories that are posted on this website.

Please invent a button:
If you select the wrong option of a poll OR your taste changes... YOU COULD CHANGE IT! >_<

I accidently selected "No" , cause I first thought that "replies" , but it was "thread subjects" lol ... well anyhow... damn...

I voted no, as although it doesn't affect myself, there may be people here with a learning disability or dyslexia who try their best to make sure they spell correctly and it could knock their confidence if they see their posts being corrected. JMO

somebody, I agree you should be able to change your vote...or at least it should be an option when you create a poll whether or not people can change their vote. Anyway....I changed your vote for you cause Im cool and I can do that. ^^
I personally think you should be able to edit the subject of your threads yourselves to correct typos but I can't change something like that. ^^

That would be considerate to them but... we don't know who they are.
I wouldn't be able to tell a disabled typer from a stoned surfer or a careless character. 🙂
A typo is still a typo. Typos don't discriminate.

This leads me to point two; few are proud about their typos, able-minded and bodied or not.
Typos are eye-sores, especially to mildly anal types like myself.
I'd rather have mods fix them, than leave them for everybody to see.

Finally, confidence is built around being treated as fully able individuals.
As a foreign speaker, I am the closest thing to an impaired native: while at first it might seem daunting, mods' discreet help would eventually enhance my grasp of english, and help me in mingling smoothly, without singling me out as "challenged", since my typos would be no different from anybody's else.

Just my HO.

I think it should be down to the mod's discretion; if it looks silly, misleading or inappropriate then it can be quickly edited.

Making a policy that /every/ typo should be removed would just be setting an impossibly high bar - everyone makes the odd typo here and there.

However, I do think "like omg look at thiiiiss!!!11!!one!!one!" thread titles should be immediately removed and shoved up the original authour's arse. Sideways.

Theres nothing I can say that hasn't been said already. I the answer was self-evident without a need for a poll. Clearly if the thread title is misleading in any way it should be corrected by either party.

I also agree, in part, with joham's last bit there about ridiculous thread titles that are either spam or an attempt to get unnecessary attention for the purpose of spam.

I don't feel we have to shove it up people's rectums however. 🙂

What I could say has already been said. Agreed with several people above me. I don't remember who they are or what they said, but I know I agreed with them. XD

Okay cool...I pretty much thought I knew the answer already but I didnt want to make a sudden shift in policy without getting the okay first. Running around playing with thread titles without warning would probably piss people off. ^^

Cool, so you agreed to the part where it says "I, HDS, agree to give joham £50"

Awesome.

Cash is acceptable.

Yes pay us to write stupidities in there 😀

But by correcting you mean doing it when people do grammatical wrong stuff ??

or just ... err when writing when being possessed by alcohol or other things ? 😛

ezazeopr tihypoi pot oper eperp tpz sd fkcwxc bnb ????

see what i mean 😉

All I meant was simple typos like inverted letters and mis-spellings. I dont think I'd want to go so far as to make each subject grammatically correct and uniform. That's way to nitpicky for me. ^_^

I think my main gripe on here isn't typos but when Mods/Admin either delete or move one of your posts without the courtesy of letting you know why. Doesn't take much to send a PM to let you know does it really and it could possibly help you not make whatever mistake they deem you to have made again.

I voted yes, primarily because of the search feature question. Also because I have screwed up typing a title before and couldn't fix it.

Thanks Nessie for the effort you put out making this site work. Goes for you other mods too!

You mean way too nitpicky, surely Ness. *grin*

🙂

*glares at joham before punting him into the godmodding thread where she can do some real damage*
