Ted Kennedy

No..Kennedy tried to control ALL legislation with backroom politics, political favors and the like....

We have let congress run the country that way for far too long......adding perks within bills to get votes instead of passing legislation on its merits and for what it will do for the country....

Perhaps the era of favors for votes will pass along with him....I certainly hope so...

In my mind, he was fighting the good fight, and some say he affected more progressive social legislation than any other legislator. I see his results, and I'm thankful for them. I just hope he is replaced with a similarly progressive person, and that other liberal senators continue fighting the good fight.

He wasn't/isn't the only one trying to pass or not pass legislation by using what leverage he could. Every senator and congressperson in Washington is trying to do this. Adding irrelevant parts to legislation is ridiculous. It's unrealistic to think it would stop with Kennedy if so many others also do it.

Dream on Ray,dream on.The French have a saying:The more things change, the more they stay the same. His death will change nothing when it comes to the way politics work.

So for you.Sarah...the ends justify the means....okay I guess...

I grew up in the Ted Kennedy years and lived in Mass. for many of them....I cant agree with you ......

I know bro...I have been around too long to think there will ever be any real change...though Obama fooled me into believing it could happen....shame on me...

To some degree, yes. He was playing the game. He didn't create it, but he was able to accomplish some great things in it. No one is perfect, and I'm sure if I looked at a lifetime of service like Kennedy's, I wouldn't agree with every action. But if he played by the rules and supported something like Meals on Wheels or Title IX, I'm glad someone did it.

LOL he didnt play by the rules...he helped create them....But we will have to agree to disagree and the point is played out because the man is gone...may he find peace in death that he never had in life......

Why would you complain about a politician accomplishing things in the senate when you do the same sort of manipulation here Ray?

A spade is a spade.

Now that is the funniest thing you have ever posted....

A spade is a spade.

A politician has a lot more influence when it comes to bills and such that will affect this country and its people than Ray does here. :flatstare:

I believe I just pm ed him something to that effect....
Without minced words...But he likes to take the hijack to a new level...

LOL

No biggie hon...

You reap what you sow....what goes around comes around....and all those other cliches that fit....

Need to live up to your own expectations before holding others to them...

Dont go round hijacking everyone else and expect them to sit quietly by and pay homage to a man who should have been in prison and not serving in the Senate...

Seriously, the little sidebar comments about things that have happened months ago, that I have apologized for, don't need to show up in each thread I start or post in. Come on man, you're at least as old as Kennedy yourself.

Live up to your signature.

I realize now that people have differing opinions on the incident in 69 involving Old Ted, so understandable that those opinions be expressed in this thread and the other two.

Continue.

Hey, at least people know when I 'hijack'. I can cite four instances in the past few months with you milling around in privacy talking mess and every single time you have a chance to deal with me voice to voice on a radio program, you go all silent. One of them had to do with you basically getting all upset that shempday business involving brighteyes as actually brought up on the forum, there are multiple instances involving Aimeegate, and then there was you chastising AnnieHall because I was unmuted on Robace radio even though I am sure you guys have changed administration passwords since she was involved with radio over six months ago.

I just find it odd that you don't like a man because of backroom political dealings when you exhibit some of those same kinds of behaviors.

Sorry to disappoint you AnnieHall, but it appears I'm just another jackass.

He's just another crook in office thats down the drain now. Good riddance I say.

Like I said as usual you have no idea what you are talking about..I was civil on the radio show as it should be.....(and it was you who were tongue tied...)

Drama here? And I'm missing it? :banghead:

LOL, anyway I suppose I'd be the biggest hypocrite in the world if I said that the man's crimes were cancelled out by his good actions...

But it is a tragedy for America when a genuine liberal dies...I mean, Strom Thurmond hung on until he was what, 104?

Your country needs more men like Ted Kennedy.

Yeah, I said it. 😀

He's a crook no Republican entity could best, so I imagine there is much in the residual hatred department by a bunch of old codgers who are just pissed that soccer balls are infringing on their narrowing lawn. And the reason their lawn is narrowing is because of a political ideology they bought into that flagrantly failed them.

Tell you what, next time I call in, I'll do what I did with Robace a few weeks ago and make sure I'm not going to wake up every single person both in my apartment complex and the one next door.

You mean a rich liberal who live in a compound guarded by people with firearms? To me,mansions should be turned into homeless shelters

I shed some tears today But it wasn't over the death of Ted Kennedy I shed tears when I hear of someone's beloved pet passing away

I don't recall using the term "jackass" to describe anyone here. And realizing that the crash of 69 is something people feel relevant to talk about in this thread, I'm fine with differing opinions.

Crash or not, to me it's still sad news. He was still a dad, uncle, grandfather, etc. and cancer sucks. I lost my mother to cancer last year after watching her suffer for years so yeah, I do feel bad that some family, whether it's the Kennedys or not, lost another loved one to this horrible disease. I'll be keeping his family in my prayers.

I am sorry Teddy passed away. It was obvious that the 1969 car incident would pop up, since it hunted him all his public life. And cut his chances to be president. Rest in peace.

On a sideline, there is something about the 1969 episode that always call my curiosity...if next to Jo instead of Ted it would have been a woman, let says a female senator; and if the behavior of that female senator would have been exactly the same as the one of Ted. Would her have been judge as hard as T. Kennedy?
And if instead of Jo would have been a man next to the female senator, would she have been judge so hard for not rescuing him?
I suppose that if men and women are the same she should; same right same duty, same job same payment, nevertheless I think people would have been much softer with a woman. But I could be wrong.

no, I called myself a jackass.

Jacko Died, and I had nothing. Fawcett died, and I was a little saddened cuz she was on Charlie's Angels. Teds dead, and if anything I'm a bit relieved.

Politicians typically rank up there with Rapists and Murderers on the evil scale with me, and Teds one of the worst. I won't go into why I feel this way, but I will say its hard for me to feel remorse or even pity for someone like him.

Note that I'm not taking the cliched and ill-informed teenage-angst-guided position that politicians are evil and we should have total anarchy, just that many politicians (especially contemporary ones) are filthy, sleazy, liars driven by personal gain.

Oh Deadsea, you sly bastard of an oppurtunist 🙂

Your probably right though, unless her family was known for drinking...

You are correct to say things would have been different, but that is because the year 1969 was different....men and women were not treated anywhere near as equals nor were they judged the same way...

Ted's biggest crime was not even making a call to report the incident until the next day and after the body was found....he didnt even think of helping her...this most likely cost Mary Jo her life...and he did it to save his own political ass.....
