1984: (January 27) Pop star Michael Jackson's scalp is seriously burned by pyrotechnics during filming of a Pepsi television commercial.

August 24th: Mark David Chapman is sentenced to 20 years to life for the murder of John Lennon.

1988: With pitching star Orel Hershiser and hitting star Kirk Gibson, the Dodgers win the NLCS over the NY Mets and then win the World Series over the Oakland Athletics.
