I think the Red Sox were better off staying pat. I think that they are the best team in the East. Look at the Yankees, they can hit and catch but they can't pitch. Randy Johnson today gives up 5 runs in 7 and a third innings. That is their best pitcher. Imagine what their worst pitcher will do.

The yankees have just been getting lucky lately. Red Sox can win the division I believe. Orioles are fadinf fast it's just those pesky Blue Jays climbing now. But without halladay, they don't have much of achance to contend. The Red Sox have a more favorable schedule the rest of the season so things look good so far. :couch:

I'm looking forward to September, when the Dodgers play 25 of their 29 games against NL West teams, and the other 4 against the Pirates. 😀

You are correct. We need to come out of August within 5 games of first place. (Obviously, it would be better if we come out of August in first place.)

Well you can count on me to root for your team for 19 games and against you for 3. I will root for you with Washington for 3 , Phillies for 3 , Braves for 3 , Marlins for 4 , Houston for 3 and the Cubs for 3. I will root against you for the 3 against the Mets.

The 3 games against the Mets come on the weekend of August 12 to 14. 😀

I have a xeroxed, shrunk Dodger season schedule in my pocket calendar. 😀

The Cubs have acquired a true leadoff man, and I believe we will take off now, also Nomar, Kerry Wood and Scott Williamson will join the team come friday

I never dispute people's predictions that their team will do well. Time will reveal the actual results.

In fact, it is clear now that the NL Wild Card won't to an NL West team, so I don't care who gets it.

I guess that puts more pressure on the Dodgers to win their division, because you don't have an wildcard safety blanket

Exactly. The eventual Wild Card team will likely have a better record than all 5 teams in the NL West. So we either win the Division, or go home in October with nothing.

The only way the West can get their safety blanket back would be to have 2 or more teams get really hot down the stretch, and everyone else tread water

By my calculations, 88-92 wins should wrap up the Wild Card

And by my calcualtions, 80-82 will likely be good enough to win the NL West. 😛

From what I have seen so far, I would put my money on the Marlins or the Astros in the NL wild card race. The starting pitching on those two teams is downright scary. If they get some clutch hitting down the stretch either team will be hard to beat. As to the Cubs, it really gets old hearing the same tired excuses year after year from them. Every good team goes through injuries, look at what the Cardinals have gone through the last several weeks. Half of their lineup is from their top farm club in Memphis. I think the Cubs have all the talent to win, but they always have some sort of excuse when they lose. I was impressed when they came to St. Louis last weekend, and won 2 out of 3 games in scorching hot weather. But since then they are losing games at Wrigley Field to teams that they have no business losing against. As far as the Mets and Phillies are concerned, both teams have good players, but just not enough of them.

Not games today. Everybody will be back in action tomorrow. 😀

The Braves won again tonight, which, combined with another Washington loss, gives them a now season high 5 1-2 games lead in the NL East. I think they should win the division unless they collapse. They have been playing well, while Washington is playing awful. It looks like division title 14 in a row will come our way if we dont screw it up the last eight weeks.

Mitch

The Dodgers hit 4 home runs to beat the Nationals 5-4. 😀 😀

Now I have to hope that the hated jints lose while I sleep. 😀

Mitch, I think you can be assured that your Braves will win the East Division. They have an amazing minor league system that develops some great young players every year. And their manager is one of the best in baseball.

The AL Central in 2003 finished the year at 70 games under .500, so the current NL West will not necessarily be the worst division ever in that regard. 😛

I admire your spirit Natural. I really do. How long will Kerry Wood be with the team now? I am not being funny. I would like a sincere educated answer. I am not breaking your chops. I really want to know. You seem to put a lot of stock in Kerry. BTW, I think that was a great move acquiring Matt Lawton. That is a move that will help you in the Wildcard chase. I am rooting the Cubs until Friday this week. Very happy the Cubs beat the Phillies 2-1. Though it was very nervewracking. Ryan Dempster almost put one in the Dumpster with 4 walks in that ninth inning. The Mets beat the Brewers 9-8 in 11 innings. This dispite the fact that the Mets gave up 5 homeruns in this game. The Mets were gutty. This would get them and keep them in this game. Their win in combination with the Phillies,Nationals and Marlins losses gets the Mets and Cubs ( who are tied with each other ) a game closer. Houston's game in still going with the Astros leading the Diamondbacks 2-1. The Astros ended up beating Arizona 3-1. Which very much saddens me but there is still time.

BTW Natural, Kerry Wood is not slated to come off the Disabled List until August 8th which is Monday. He was placed on the disabled list on the 15 day disabled list on July 25th. He will definately miss the Mets series as will Mark Prior. Hill , Maddux and Zambrano will face the Mets this weekend. We will throw Glavine, Ishii and Zambrano at you guys this weekend. We both trail the Astros by 4 games for the wildcard. This is so much fun. :xpulcy:

I am pleased to report that the hated jints lost while I was asleep. 😀 Combined with the Dodgers win earlier, Tuesday was a perfect baseball day.
