the "baseball only" thread

I don't deny that. But I have been to the World Series since 1986. Unfortunately we lost to the hated Yankees. 😡

Well the Red sox have managed to beat both Garland and Buhrle, two of the best pitchers in baseball. And they are going for the sweep tommorow. This series has proven to me that the Red Sox are in pretty good shape for the rest of the season 😎

I will not go into the spelling mistakes in this post K-Skate, however, if you think that Garland and Buehrle are the 2 best pitchers in baseball, then you really do not know the game. To even put them on the level of Clemens, Morris, Martinez, Maddux is insane. They may have great records but they are NOT the best in baseball or 2 of the best in baseball. If they do for the next 5 years what they are doing this year then and only then can you call them 2 of the best in baseball. Please do use a favor, buddy get a grip. I mean have you forgotten about Randy Johnson? I know he is having a bad season but these guys do not have Johnson's stats. How about Bartolo Colon? Barry Zito? Tim Hudson? Mark Mulder? Please get a grip. They ARE NOT the 2 best pitcher's in baseball. :wow: :sowrong:

Well, what I meant to say is they are two of the best ones this season. Zito, Mulder, and Hudson never impressed me when even when they were pitching better. Clemens and Maddux are two of the best. Martinez is great but not one of the best. He's just doing better because he is in the NL. Remember what happened when the Mets faced the Mariners this year? Morris isn't that great either. Colon is still good though.

I will watch the Dodger game at 4pm, and probably stop posting here during the game.

The guy won 180 games in the American League. He is a Hall of Famer that makes him a great pitcher. For his career so far he is 194-80 which is a winning percentage FOR HIS CAREER of .708. You are giving me one game against the Mariners. I am giving you a career. Can you tell me that any of the 2 from the White Sox or any other pitcher pitching right now that can boast that winning percentage in more than 150 decisions in their career? Morris isn't great? He is better than Garland and Buehrle. That is a fact. Buehrle is 82 - 50 in his career winning percentage of .621. Garland is 62 -57 in his career with a winning percentage of .521. Matt Morris is 99-56 with a career winning percentage of.639. Please choose your words and your arguments wisely.

The Braves had a 7-run inning against the Dickheads, and now lead 12-4, which is good. 😀

The Marlins are leading the hated jints 4-0 in the 7th inning, which is good. 😀

Now, I hope the Dodgers can score some runs today against P. Martinez.

Jayson Werth hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 8th, what a game!!! Final score: Dodgers 2, Mets 1.

What a game indeed. The Mets got 1 run on 10 hits, and the Dodgers got 2 runs on 2 hits to win. 😀

The only other Dodger base runner was M. Bradley, who walked in the first inning--only 27 Dodgers appeared at the plate: 24 put out, 1 left on base, 2 runs. 😛

My Cubbies took 3 of 4 from the Cardinals, and now are headed to Houston to which they can get right back in the wild card race with a sweep or 2 of 3

I can't help but think this: The Dodgers are 5 games behind the first place SD Pondscum today, and have 6 games still to play against said Pondscum. So things are not as bad as they seem. 😀

The Cubs played well over the weekend against the Cardinals. Kerry Wood was spectacular, pitching in relief. But tonight they got smoked by Houston 12-4, dropping them 7.5 games behing the Astros for the wildcard. Washington seems to be playing well again, much to my surprise. I thought they were toast. Milagros, the Dodgers have had some tough injuries to deal with. I hated to see J.D. Drew go down. He is a heck of a player. Folks in St. Louis loved his potential, when he first came up in 1998 some compared him to a young Mickey Mantle, while others predicted he would be the next Stan Musial. So the fans nicknamed him Mickey Musial. :smilestar

With J.D. Drew and Eric Gagne healthy, the Dodgers would be quite a bit better. 😀

Well the Cubs ended up winning 2 out of 3 as did the Mets from the Pirates. Interesting that the wildcard standings now have Philadelphia on top with Washington and Houston both trailing by a half game and that the Marlins trail by only 1 game. The Mets by 3 and by golly look at the Brewers who trail by only 5 games ( 60-62 ) with the Cubs at 5 1/2 games behind. Cubs play the Rockies this weekend, Pittsburgh is in Philadelphia , Washington plays the Mets. Dodgers are in Florida, San Diego will go against Atlanta and Milwaukee took the first game of a 4 game set with Houston in Houston last night. This sets up to be a great weekend for the baseball fan. Each game with great importance. It is conceivably possible ( not likely mind you ) that by the end of the weekend that the Phillies and Mets share the wildcard lead with Washington , Houston and the Marlins remaining where they are. and the Brewers being 2 games back and the Cubs behind by 2 1/2 games. Like I said,it is unlikely but for Brewers and Cubs fans they will be Pirates, Mets and Dodgers fans all weekend to make that scenerio possible and tighten the screws even more on a wild wildcard race. :rotate:

The Dodgers took 2 out of 3 from the Braves in Atlanta. 😀 😀

Yeah but they lost to the Marlins tonight 3-0. Jason " I hope he has jock itch " Werth struck out with 2 runners on in the ninth and then other losers struck out after him. Final from Florida: Marlins 3 - the Dodgers 0. :ranty: :ranty: :ranty:

The Cardinals scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th to edge the Giants 5-4.

That was a truly wonderful thing that the Cardinals did to the hated jints. 😀

But the Dodgers lost so it means nothing.
To top it off you lost a game to the Padres who DID their job and BEAT the Braves 12-7. Other news of importance, the mighty Kansas City Royals lost their 19th game in a row as they drop a 4-0 heartbreaker to the A's. Boston beat the Angels 4-3. The Tigers hit 5 homeruns including 2 by Carlos Pena as the Tigers ripped into the Blue Jays 9-5.The Yankees behind Mike Mussina defeated the Central Division front running White Sox 3-1. In the National League, the Mets beat the Nationals 1-0 behind a great pitching performance of Jae Seo. Seo is now 5-1 with an ERA of 1.09. The Astros are now in front in the wildcard standings again as the beat the Brewers 5-3. The Cubs beat the Rockies 5-3 as the moved to within 5 games of the Astros. The Pirates beat-up the Phillies 11-2 and in a meaningless game the Reds crushed the Diamondbacks 17-3. Today every fan in the National League who is chasing the wildcard leader are all going to be big Brewer fans for the moment.

Today's games were probably what you would expect for a Sunday. I will start at Shea Stadium where the Mets were beaten by the Washington Nationals 7-4. The Nats scored 6 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. In Florida, the Dodgers were overmatched by the Marlins as they crushed the Dodgers 7-1. In Houston, the Astros topped the Brewers 8-3 as the Astros remain 1/2 game behind Philadelphia who beat Pittsburgh 4-3. In Colorado, the Cubs were nipped by the Rockies 9-7. The Reds continued their winning ways as they beat Arizona 13-6. The Giants doubled up the Cards 4-2 and the Padres and Braves game is just under way.

In the American League, I just finished watching the Royals beat the A's 5-4 in 12 innings. Earlier the Red Sox shut down the Angels 5-1. The Red Sox got back the game they lost yesterday to the Yankees as Randy Johnson surrendered 4 homeruns in 1 inning including back to back to back jacks as the White Sox snapped their 7 game losing streak 6-2. The Indians inch closer to a wildcard spot as they beat the Orioles 5-1. The Twins knocked off the Mariners 8-3.Tampa Bay beat Texas 6-3 and the Tigers scored 7 in the 1st, 2 more in the 2nd as they ended up jumping out to a 15-0 lead before holding off the Blue Jays by the final of 17-6.

This week's games include:
Cleveland at Tampa 4 games
Toronto at Yankees 4 games
Oakland at Detroit 3 games
White Sox at Minnesota 3 games
Angels at Orioles 3 games
In the National League:
Monday Dodgers finish their series with Florida 1 game
Florida at Milwaukee 3 games
Braves at Cubs 3 games
Houston at San Diego 3 games
Cincinnati at Washington 3 games

Philadelphia at San Francisco 3 games.

Today's results were sickening, and erased the game that the Dodgers gained on the hated jints yesterday.
