the "baseball only" thread

Any pitcher who does anything but concentrate on the game he is now pitching is not likely to do well.

The time has come for Frank McCourt to spend some money on quality free agents. 😀

I am rooting for the Cardinals to sweep the Pondscum. 😀

That seems likely (Cards up 2-0 now). 😛

And my Angels evened the series with the Yanks! 😀

The White Sox are doing great but the last game was close (that error by Boston was VERY costly), and remember the Red Sox beat the Yanks last year after being down 0-3. As long as the Angels beat either team I'll be happy. 😀

Nobody is counting the Red Sox out yet because of just that memory from last year. 😀

Being a Mets fan, I didn't think they would make the postseason but I was still happy they had a winning season. I like some of the kids that came up through the system(Wright is the real deal, Jacobs shows some promise, and Reyes is coming of age). I still wish the move for Piazza from catcher to first would have worked. It would have given him about 50 more at bats not to mention less fatigue as the season wore on. They need to get an upgraded closer and another good starting pitcher. I like their bench and can use Cameron as good trade bait to get a good pitcher.

The Dodgers have many problems, and it is hard to see how they can all be fixed for next year.

Mitchell is a very happy camper tonight, seeing as his braves smoked the Astros with Clemons on the hill :couch:

The Houston-Atlanta series is the only one I don't really care about, though I'm rooting for the Astros just because the Braves have already won the World Series. 😛

The Red Sox were the first team eliminated in post season play.

"Wait 'Till Last Year."

Wouldn't it be something if both the Yankees and Red Sox got eliminated in the 1st round? It could happen too, as injuries have plagued the Yankees' pitching staff just like the BoSox. Personally, I would totally lose interest in the playoffs after the Yankees and Red Sox were eliminated any other year, except this year I wanna see how far the White Sox can go. Last year the Red Sox ended their championship drought, the 3rd longest in baseball. Guess who has the 2nd longest: the White Sox.

Well, thank you Capt for not mentioning who has the longest 😀

I want the White Sox to win it all, to force the Cubs into getting the team they should've gotten

Rain has postponed Game 4 of the Angels-Yankees series until Sunday, delaying the inevitable (Angels win and face the White Sox).

But I am not shy, I will mention it. The team with the longest drought is the Chicago Cubs who have not won a World Series since 1908. They probably would have won in 2004 but the Cubs ran into a 3 run homer by Victor Diaz and spoiled their season. 😛. Sorry Natural it had to be said. 😛

Hey Natural, as I've mentioned on this thread before my dad is a lifelong diehard Cub fan. Tonight he said "they say the Cubs have a plan for next year. I wanna see this @#$%ing plan, those assholes." LOL

And do you think Dusty will be back next year? I don't see the Cubs eating the salary for the one year left on his contract, right after eating Sammy Sosa's salary.

I know the plan...they plan on losing more next year than this year. 😛 I believe Dusty will ride out the last year of his contract only for the reason you stated about Sosa's contract. Cubs do not like to eat big contracts. If I am not mistaken isn't Dusty making like 5 million on this last year of the contract?

The Cardinals sweep the Padres in the NLDS. So far, so good. Go Atlanta!!!

Congrats to the Cards, they'll be tough to beat. And Houston's up 2-1 on Atlanta. Go Astros! 😀

When I got home from playing bridge yesterday, the Cardinals were leading 5-0. I must confess that I went to sleep, exhausted, rather than watch the rest of the game. I like the outcome. 😀

Hey Milagros, I know the Dodgers manager job is open. How would you feel about Dusty Baker managing the Dodgers next season? I know there's a lot of Cub fans who would like to get rid of him. 😀

He was a fine outfielder in his playing days for the Dodgers, and he is a smart manager, so I would be glad to have him. But it's more important that the general manager acquire some talent over the winter.
