the "baseball only" thread

Congrats to the Astros for beating the Braves in the longest postseason game in baseball history! (18 innings, 5 hours and 50 minutes long!) And the Yankees are about to be eliminated (I hope). 😀

I watched the Braves/Astros game. Ghastly for Braves fans to see them blow a 6-1 lead in the late innings, I'm sure.

Yeah, that must be tough if you're a Braves fan. Atlanta seems to always lose in the postseason (the team's won only one championship, and that was ten years ago). But then Houston's never won, so their fans must be happy. And right now I'm not, because New York's tied the game. :Grrr:

Even less happy now that the Yankees lead.
JPie is very happy, I'm sure.

Very tense now, top of the 8th, still 3-2 Yankees, two outs.

Odd note: Mariano Rivera had to be inserted into the batting order, as DH Bernie Williams has been moved into the outfield.

Yes, I know. One of their worst playoff screw ups ever. Alas, let them rest in peace for 2005, and they will be back again, come April 2006.

Mitch

So the damn Yankees won (barely). :disgust: But I can't wait for tomorrow's game in Anaheim. Colon vs. Mussina! What a battle. Go Angels! Kick New York's butts. 😀 And this time Bartolo had better not screw up. 😡 😛

The Dodgers need to make substantial improvements over the winter. Getting a new manager is not the problem.

I will watch tonight's game, as will the scouts from the White Sox. 😀

I knew the Angels would win! 😀 Too bad about Colon though. 🙁 But that kid Santana definitely has a future. 🙂 Chicago here we come! Go Angels. 😎

How much of a disadvantage do you think the Angels will be at the 1st couple games, with the lack of rest and all the travel of the last couple days? One thing I could say about the Yankees, at least they probably got a good night's sleep last night LOL

I haven't posted in this thread in ages. But now that both the Red Sox and yankees are eliminated, I really don't care who gets to the World Series. Though it would be interesting to watch the White Sox vs the Astros. But it remains to be seen as to what happens.

As for the Red Sox, here are some of my predictions as to what will be done for the 2006 season:

Clement may be traded
Millar will be gone
Mueller will be gone
50/50 chance of Johnny Damon being gone
Bullpen additions and subtractions(not sure who they will try to get but I predict Stanton and a few they got at the last minute will be gone)

I hope they will bring in a new right handed hitter as a first basemen who is both a better hitter and fielder than Millar.

I think at least two of my predictions will come true. But I believe their prority right now should be pitching and defense.

It would be nice for the White Sox to win their first World Series since 1917, wouldn't it? 😀

The Angels will most likely have a tough time in Chicago (remember, ANYTHING can happen). If they earn a split that would be a victory in itself. I'll always support my Angels but I wouldn't be surprised if the White Sox go up 2-0 on them, or worse. And yes, even if Chicago sweeps Anaheim (I'll NEVER call them LA 😛) at least they eliminated the Yankees. 😀

That would be cool, even though they'd have to beat my team to do it. I was glad when the Red Sox ended their drought last year, and if Chicago does it this year, I'll be the first to congratulate them. If the White Sox do win it all, I hope my Angels at least put up a good fight and extend the series to six or seven games. 😀

When I was in LA in June, everybody who expressed an opinion wanted them to be called the Anaheim Angels for the simple reason that they play their home games in Anaheim.

Also, the people in Anaheim are justly proud of the 2002 World Champion Anaheim Angels.

So what kind of an idiot would change the name?

Thanks for the link. In trying to attract new fans from outside Orange County, he may wind up offending some of the loyal fans that he had.

I'm not offended (annoyed maybe), but I just think changing the name is a dumb idea. As you've pointed out, the Angels play in Anaheim, and many (if not most) of their fans are in Orange County. Officially they'll be known as the Los Angeles Angels, but I'll always think of them as being an O.C. team, and yes, L.A. already has the Dodgers and always will.

Yes they certainly are! 😀 I hope the Chi Sox don't catch up. 😛
