the "baseball only" thread

I'd love to see the Indians and Dodgers in the Series! By the way who would you take?

Yes it's obvious you love your Dodgers, do you have a favorite A.L. team?

My favorite N.L team ws always the 'Braves. I liked them when they were the worst team in Baseball and I followed them through all their years. The best Series for me was when the Braves met the Tribe , unfortunatley the Tribe lost.

I don't really have a favorite AL team. In that TMF member Limeoutsider is my friend, and she roots enthusiastically for the Cleveland Indians, I want them to do well for her sake. 😀

Well we can only wait and see which Dodger and Indian teams show up this season.

The Dodgers have made many moves during the off season. I want to see how healthy the new acquisitions are during 2006. 😀

Well we can keep our same guys and stay healthy, we have a damn good chance of shocking everybody.

Spring training camps open for pitchers and catchers in about five weeks. 😀

I don't know, maybe it's me, but do you feel that spring training really defines how good a team will be like some experts do?

No it does not. You can have a great spring training and then come out the gate 2-15. Look at the Yankees during their runs at World Titles. Look at their spring record. They stunk every year. Comments in NY were what is wrong with the Yankees? What is wrong is they win when they need to. 🙄

Moreover, coming out of the gate well doesn't guarnatee a good season. Last year the Dodgers were 12-2 after the first 14 games, and finished at 71-91. :xlime:

Usually at this time of the year we start getting "tribe" reports, but since LeBron James and the Cavs. are doing well, the town is basketball hungry.

This time of year, I check the Dodgers' website about twice a week to see if there's any news. 😀

But everyone but you knew that the Dodgers stunk. I told you that in spring training. Unfortunately you probably should have had about 10 more loses had you had Kaz Ishii. But because you gave him to us your team cost us a playoff spot.😛

Don't blame us because the Mets were foolish enough to take Ishii. Shopping him around was one of the few smart things our former GM did. 😀

You guys could have offered us one of your better pitchers. Instead you gave us from the scrape heap. That is so wrong :sowrong:

What you need is a GM who will look carefully at BB/9IP (walks per 9 innings ptiched) before acquring a starting pitcher. 😀

Has nothing to do with his walks per 9 innings. Nolan Ryan had a high walks per 9 innings total. The fact is that I could hit Kaz Ishii. So appartently did everyone else too. :sadcry:

Nolan Ryan was unique in many ways (like throwing the fastball at nearly 100mph at age 46). I wouldn't use Nolan's lifetime 4.67 BB/9IP to excuse anybody else for doing the same. Anyway, it was down to 3.26 the last year that he pitched 200+ innings (1990).

(Ishii has lifetime 5.65 BB/9IP at present.)

Nolan Ryan was an awesome pitcher (and not just because he used to be an Angel 😛). He recorded 2,416 strikeouts, the most in Angels history, and holds the MLB record of 5,714 total SO's. He threw seven no-hitters, also a league record (four of them while he was an Angel). 😀

I really don't think spring training is an indicator of how the season will be or how a player will perform. Look at the 1993 Mets. They had a great spring and lost 100 games that year. They were by far the worst team money can buy.

As far as the players go. Most of the time, the players are either batting against a guy who is destined for double or triple A by opening day, or, if he bats against one of the starting pitchers, that pitcher is just working on getting his pitches right. He is not looking to be competitive like it's the 7th game of the WS. He is just looking to get his work in..

Hopefully this will be the year that the Mets take over NY. My advice to Delgado and Wagner is not to drink the water in Flushing. I hear a rumor it's laced with Kryptonite. Buy bottled water instead.

I think they were paying us back for the time we gave them Mel Rojas 😀

I agree, my impression watching him pitch was that he walked one or two batters per inning, so I was shocked 😱 when the actual number was below 9.00 😛
