I'm sorry, but as I'm a bit older, I grew up a Yankee fan with the great Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra and Roger Marris. When they built Shea Stadium for the Mets in Flushing in 1964, at first we thought it was another pavillion for the New York World's Fair, which was also in the same general location. Eventually, as kids, we understood that the Mets were the National League replacement for the departed Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants.
Easy buddy!!! I appreciate Yankee history and tradition. I am a baseball historian. I know more about the Yankees than most ( not all ) Yankee fans. People don't realize Babe Ruth singlehandedly saved baseball after the Black Sox scandel of 1919. I truly appreciate your team. I was having a little fun with you. I apologize if I offended you. I will let you also know that my dad was the crane operator that helped build Shea Stadium. That is one reason I am a Mets fan. Another is because my mom was an old Brooklyn Dodgers fan. So she stay in the National League and became a Mets fan. But my dad has MANY stories of drinking with lots of Yankees players and managers. My dad will be 81 in April so he knows lots of the old time players. Feathery since you are a bit older than I, it could be lots of fun talking to you about baseball. I hope we get that chance. One more time though, ( it is always worth repeating ) I have GREAT RESPECT for Yankee history. Without the Yankees, baseball would have died years ago.

No, please... no offense taken, my friend! It's baseball remember, lol!! As you are a Met fan, I assumed you came from a National League family background, just as my father was a Yankee fan starting with the late Gehrig/early DiMaggio era. When the Giants and Dodgers moved out west, it created a huge hole in the hearts of NY baseball fans. So the Mets sure helped fill that hole. Especially their wonderful amazin' year in 1969, when they delighted the whole world of sportsfans everywhere! Except of course, in Chicago and Baltimore.

Well Cubs fans all around still talk about 1969 like it was our fault. :Grrr: Can Mets fans help it if they couldn't hold on to a 9 1/2 game lead in mid-August??? We were just happy ( actually as I recall I was not even 3 when the Mets won in 1969. ) But it is still fun to let Cubs fans know that they haven't been to the World Series since 1945. :wowzer:

That year, 1969, was great for NY sports. The Jets winning the Super Bowl, The Mets having their great season. I was 14 then and I know NY fans were starving for a winner. The NY Football Giants hadn't been in the post season since '63, and the Yankees fell flat after losing the '64 World Series to St. Louis. '69 was the year NY could feel good about sports again.

Derek Lowe was not impressive in his 5-inning outing in a monr league game today. 🙁

If I recall, 1986 was a fun year too, with the Mets and the Giants winning that year. The Yankees had a VERY good season and the Jets made the playoffs.

I see your game ended in a 7-7 tie. I was hoping you would win, because then I wont feel so guilty when we sweep the season series from you. :imouttahe

Their regular season record remains 0-0. 😛

Oh!!! So then what is the point of ...ah...forget it. It just isn't worth the effort. Back to regularly schedule programming already in progress. :upsidedow

When a team has had a lousy season the year before, like the Dodgers did in 2005, a good spring training can help erase the memories and the losing habits. 😀

If you believe that then that is okay. But you know better than that. The Mets teams of the late 70's and early 80's had great springs then would for kicks and giggles win 63 to 68 games a season. Of course, Joe Torre who I really believe was a good manager for the Mets could only do so much when your best player is Lee Mazzilli.

Well, it can't hurt the players' confidence to have a winning spring. 😀

Until they start the season losing 8 of their first 10, then where is there confidence???
