the "baseball only" thread

Oh man. My Orioles just picked up Kris Benson from the Mets. Perhaps not surprisingly, Baltimore is more a-buzz about ANNA Benson, and the shenanigans she'll likely bring along with her. Well, at least 2006 shouldn't be boring! 😛

I have my tickets for the spring training games in Holman Stadium in Dodgertown on March 12, 16, and 17. 😀

Nice signing of Furcal who is undergoing surgery on his knee ( I believe ). Sounds like you are not going to start the season healthy. When are you going to Vero Beach,Florida this year Mils? :idunno:

I'll say this... when the Dodgers do get healthy, they're looking like the favorites in that division. Of course, you always have to be concerned about the health of Drew and Nomar, but they'vemade some nice moves otherwise. Furcal (as you mentioned), Mueller, Lofton, and the trade for Baez and Carter. Now there's rumors on some of my Orioles sites that the O's and Dodgers may be trying to work out a deal that sends LA Javy Lopez. Would probably be good for both teams, as Baltimore now has the defensively superior Ramon Hernandez at catcher, and Lopez only has one year left on his deal (only making about $7 mill, I believe), giving LA the time to wait on one of their young catchers to be ready. Good in theory, anyway. But the point is, if healthy, the Dodgers look pretty potent.

That sounds like an interesting deal. But who would the Dodgers give to the Orioles?

The rumor I read was that the O's would get back 1B Hee Seop Choi and C Dioner Navarro. Basically, you guys wouldn't be losing that much. Of course, most of what I read was pure fan speculation. But if it does happen, it wouldn't be a bad deal, IMO. It would give the Orioles a young, backup catcher to develop. And in Choi's case, it would move him from cavernous Chavez Ravine to homer-friendly Oriole Park. The Dodgers would get Lopez to fill their hole at catcher while waiting for Martin (I think that's the last name of your top catching prospect) to develop. Seems like a win-win situation.

Some interesting thoughts on the Orioles-Dodgers move. I think it would favor the Dodgers for now. The Orioles would benefit in the future. Good luck with Anna Benson. You will need it. This is the first time I have heard of a team trading the wife and wishing they could keep the player. 😀

Maybe she'll be the worst player's wife since Cindy Garvey. Am I the only one who remembers that hilarious divorce? 😀

I remember it. But Anna Benson showed up at a Christmas function for kids almost naked. I am sure Santa would not have thought to bring the kids that for Christmas. 😱

I hadn't heard about the Christmas party incident. Sounds really dumb of her.

That is why Kris Benson was traded. So the Mets didn't have anymore incidents like that with her. :wow:

Well, now it's rumored that Javy Lopez may be staying put. But, who really knows. Baseball trades are on-again, off-again all the time. Molina and (ugh) Piazza are still out there, so there may be teams that decide to go with either of them as a short-term fix. As for Anna Benson, I actually heard her on our ESPN affiliate today (on one of the local shows). She sounded OK to me. A little out there perhaps, but nothing terrible. She strikes me as more of a fun-loving, free-spirited person who just likes the media attention. As long as Kris Benson doesn't come to the AL and get bombed, I doubt Baltimore will take her antics too seriously.

She told our affiliate that Omar Minaya and the Mets FO flatly denied that trading Kris was in any way related to anything she's done. Of course, that's only if you believe Minaya.

Or that is if you believe Anna Benson. Doesn't it strike you as funny that Pittsburgh gave up Benson for NOTHING and the Mets did the same. Omar was asked if this was a baseball trade or an Anna trade and he had the BIGGEST GRIN on his face before he said it was a baseball trade. He can't tell the media or Anna that Kris was traded because of her. Everyone in New York knows why Kris was traded. It is unfortunate we got Jorge Julio with a 3-5 and 5.90 ERA for Kris but when you are trading Anna Benson you will take anything in return.

Well, Spring Training is upon us, and that means not too long before the season starts

AFA Kris Benson is concerned, you should be traded for what you do on the diamond, not because of your wife

While I have purchased my spring training tickets online, I wouldn't say that it is upon us yet. Pitchers and catchers haven't reported to camp yet, and the Dodgers' first game is on March 2.

This is true. Still, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt before judging too harshly. About Julio, yeah, he can be a headache. He can be absolutely dominant, or not be able to find the strike zone. Good luck with him. At least the Mets got John Maine along with him. He doesn't project as highly as he once did, but he could end up being a solid back-end starter or long man. Time will tell.

If anybody else here will be in Holman Stadium in Dodgertown for the games of March 12, March 16, or March 17, let me know. 😀

I had no idea that the players were in camp already :wow: Don't worry about the Mets Natural. When we come to town and you come to Shea is the only time you should worry about them. Don't worry about Kris Benson, worry about Victor Diaz ruining your season again like he did 2 years ago. :evilha:

Mike Piazza found a new home is San Diego. The Padres signed him to a 1 year contract worth $2,000,000. As a Mets fan, I hope that Mike Piazza hits 25 homeruns and drives in 85 runs. To a man of class, Mike I will root you on always. Congratulations to Mike Piazza and good luck on a great season. 🙂

I wish Mike Piazza well, while simultaneously wanting his new team to not win NL West, obviously. 😀

The chances of the infidel ruining our season again is like the Devil Rays winning the AL East :Grrr:

I cannot wait for Spring Training to start, although I don't particularly car for the WBC, at least its baseball to watch

Then I guess you would place the Devil Rays as odds on favorites to win the AL East? You know Victor Diaz will ruin your season. I just hope he does in Chicago with you there in the stands. 😀
