5 hours seems like a very long wait. But I have heard worse ER horror stories than that. 😱
I went in November 2017 after my daily 3 mile run I hit a "wall" where I could barely run or even walk. I was fortunately at the end only down the block from my home. Came home. Laid in bed. Couldn't really move for 2 hours. If I tried to turn over it hurt so much in my chest/back. Wound up going to work after I felt better. They yelled at me to go to the doctor. They sent me to the ER...all these tests and all they came up with was a "pulled chest muscle". At first they said could be anything including a heart attack.Likewise, I only went to the emergency room once for myself. It was in the summer of 1968. I badly cut the fourth finger of my left hand while cutting salami with my right hand. It required two stitches. [pause] I just looked at the scar on my finger. It is a pale white scar and I have to look closely in good light to see it at all.
Yea 5 hours is more routine here sad to say. My caregivers son got stung by a bee, his arm swelled badly. She waited about 5 hours before they looked at her son. They refuse to remove the stinger... so she went home and removed it herself. I avoid ER like the plague.5 hours seems like a very long wait. But I have heard worse ER horror stories than that. 😱

I wonder if I really had one? I was in my 30s still...but as you know anyone can have one. I never felt anything like that before and never since then (thankfully). It was very weird. We are not so good at identifying the heart attacks quickly. I researched quicker diagnoses but simce its a catastophic event its hard to predict and not so easy to identify. They are still trying to figure out if I had one over the summer 2024 lol.
Sorry 🙁 to hear that you went through that, but very glad you survived it!We are not so good at identifying the heart attacks quickly. It was a ghastly experience 🙁 to feel so much pain, I'm sure, but it is good that you've never felt anything like that since.I wonder if I really had one? If you are fit and healthy they are rare...not impossible but rare. There are what they call silent heart attacks which are heart attack with almost no symptoms you need medical tests then to be sure you had one. EKGs will sometimes show them but sometimes it's just a fluke like in my case. They thought I had a silent heart attack from EKG but really was just machine...so far heart looks good.I wonder if I really had one? I was in my 30s still...but as you know anyone can have one. Thanks. So far heart seems ok. They are still doing tests though lolSorry 🙁 to hear that you went through that, but very glad you survived it!

I want to get an EKG just to see since I'm a runner that my heart is in good condition. If you are fit and healthy they are rare...not impossible but rare. Doesn't hurt to get a EKG, a heart monitor, a echocardiogram, or a stress test. I have all those done. If needed they can do a CT scan to be really sure all is well. Just depends what your insurance covers.I want to get an EKG just to see since I'm a runner that my heart is in good condition.
Not a bad idea at all I think.I think that I had my first EKG at about age 40. My primary care physician said that he wanted to "establish a baseline" for my heart's functioning while I was still relatively young.

Yes, I thought it was a good idea, too.Not a bad idea at all I think.
Interesting. I did not know that.Yes, I thought it was a good idea, too.
Did you ever wonder why it's called an EKG which is short for Electro-Cardio-Gram?
Because the machine was invented in Germany and the German word for Cardiac is Kardiac.
