Tormented Soles - The Original Thread.

Revised Char. Bio

Ok I made some changes to my previous post. Much thanks and credit to Kalamos for the great ideas he gave.

A wolf familiar. Nice.

[Er... ok, maybe I'll elaborate on it, later]

Wolf familiars, bah. Thats gonna require a D&D book.

And my wizard was never cool enough to have a wolf familiar, I had to have a pansy-ish squirrel. Least I could do my squirrel in the pants bit..

*notices everyones stares*

Er.. it was taj.. I swear..

Well I suppose like the squirrel...the wolf is just kind of there. He could help I suppose, but he's really just a creampuff...lookit his wittle face...<makes baby noise, notices the stares>...what?...

this is the char i hope is accepted

Not good enough. Firstly, you left out any description of your character's appearance. Secondly, and more importantly, it seems that English is not your first language. Writing like a novellist is not required but at least have decent punctuation and grammar so that your posts would be easier to read.

To would be like players, please read the other RPG threads for informations about the gaming setting.

A drow-hating sorcerer would be fairly out of place: first of all, we have no Drows in the game. Second, there is no DnD-style magic. Third, different elven sects are starting to reconcile. Finally, this is a *tickling* free-form rpg, so fighting or magical prowesses are not required, nor useful.

I hope this won't discourage future players; just read the background notes. 🙂

Bio on Albert and Katie

These are the two 'guard' characters that were captured by Night Raptor. Anyone can control these two. Cassandra as 'ok'ed this sheet even though it is not required. I decided to elaborate on Albert and Katie some more.

NPC Character Sheet for Albert ‘Snake’ Vans and Katie Jones

Albert ‘Snake’ Vans

Gender = Male

Age = 38

Occupation = Head Commander in the King’s Tracking Party.

Features and Clothing = Tall man measuring in a height of 6’ 00”, weights 144 lbs., wears guard clothing consisting of gray pants, black boots, blue shirt, with armor chains across his chest. Albert’s hair is short and black.

Weapons are a Double Edged Medium Sword and a Dagger.

Bio = Serves under King Thoth as a Tracker. Albert goes out as a spy or a scout, finding out the location of useful animals, people, and other information that will help King Thoth find his daughter. All other attempts have failed, but his last attempt is looking promising until getting captured by Night Raptor in the woods and rendered unconscious.

Katie Jones

Gender = Female

Age = 22

Occupation = Trapper

Features = Bright face, long blonde hair worn in a braided ponytail, and is very agile. 5’ 5” height, weights 115 lbs., and is very frisky.

Clothing = short leather boots, green pants, brown shirt, and a black cape.

Weapon(s) = only a dagger.

Bio = works for King Thoth as a trapper of all animals. Rumors in the kingdom told of a war wolf that could be ridden and fight against the enemy. Katie was sent out along with Albert to find this war wolf and bring it back to Thoth. Attempt foiled by Night Raptor even though N.R. brought her in the presence of the war wolf. Katie is highly ticklish and would rather be whipped or die than to be tickled.

I lurk here from time to time and thought I might join in. Let me know if this is alright.

Name: Tanandra (probably not her actual name)
Race: Half-elven
Gender: Female
Age: 30's
Occupation: Information broker, freelance tickler
Features: Elegant, Cultured. Perhaps even a bit jaded.
Clothing: Dresses in the current fashion of the wealthy and noble.
Weapons: Fighting? Oh my no, that's for guards and other low class sorts. Does have certain alchemical tricks (smoke pellets and other distractions) for making an escape.

Bio: Having been born third daughter to a minor noble family, Tanandra's future was not in any doubt. She would have been married off for the political or financial advantage of her family, had children, and given how the land is probably getting tickled regularly throughout. Fate had other plans.

As was the style, Tandy studied a trade so as to be a more valuable marriage prospect. In her case, alchemy. She was not really the best student however, and in the process of "marrying the Green Dragon to the Golden Arc of Heaven" (an alchemical process for turning lead to iron) made a terrible error. The alchemical effect irreversably affected her own body, deadening her to sensation. She would no longer feel pleasure or pain.

She soon became the black sheep of the family. Marriage prospects were non-existent, as who would marry such a non-ticklish (or anything else) woman? The rejection twisted her spirit and sharpened her envy of other women who could still feel what she could not. It soon took the form of her tickling and tormenting other women.

As it happened, she had a talent for it. Starting as a freelance torturer, she soon became a trader of information that she acquired from her unlucky victims. Now reasonably well off, she finds women of interest and extracts bits of knowledge and hidden secrets while doing her best to break them to her will. The information she sells to interested parties. As for the women, well that depends on how much fun she's having.

Abilities: Alchemy (somewhat), Information from her network of contacts and sources, Considerable Wealth, Good Relations with a variety of "powers that be"

Nice. 🙂

A male player with a female char. That's the true challenge of roleplaying. 🙂

Edit: Changes are in RED.
Edit: New changes are in BLUE

Name: Sethos Newyrs

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Tickling Orientation: 'Ler - M/F. 'Lee - M/M, F/M. This wasn't listed as a requirement, but I saw it rise up in a later post and thought it might be a good idea to include.

Race: Human (Draconic Ancestry)

Description: Seth is the kind of child that even a mother would have a difficult time loving. He suffers from an odd sort of albinism; his skin is alabaster white and completely hairless, his eyes a pale pink, and his short, uneven hair is silver. His form is short and frail; were it not that he typically wore no clothing on his upper body, he could be easily mistaken for a young girl. His legs are wraped in oversized, heavy leather pants, which are sewn to his black leather boots at the ankles. Chains wind around both legs, looping about his waist several times, and then twice diagonally about his torso. He also wears heavy black leather gloves; those two are bound about his wrists with chains. One great, heavy iron padlock hangs on the left side of his hip. All of his possesions, including a large cloak he wears during the day to hide himself from the sun, are packed into an oddly small satchel at his waist.

Bio: Seth was born into a family of low-key practitioners, but his obvious defects put his parents into a regretable possition. Though they cared for their son, it was clear that their standing was challenged by other nobles of "untainted blood". He spent all of his early childhood at the Temple of Kinetics, where it became clear that he posessed no talent in the arts of practiced spellcasting and ritualism. In time, the rejection and failure he suffered at this institution grew to be more than he could bear.

In his early teens he discovered that not only was he accursed, but so would be anything around him; forest animals shied from his presence, and plant life within a short range of him would wither and die. Even humans would feel ill at ease around him, and his gaze could cause loathing and contempt in the heart of a nun. One day, the Temple of Kinetics attepted to kill the boy in his own home. In a panic, he tried to harness his untrained arcane power to escape. He only suceeded in killing his own parents.

After seeing the child use such force untrained, the Temple decided not to kill him. However, he remained unresponsive to attempts to train him. Later, in order to control the errant use of his power, various means of torture were derived to rob him of his ability to focus on his talents while they continued research on the source of his power. One means of torture, however, proved more effective than any other: tickling him.

Thus passed three years of his life as a guinea pig, being subjected to horrible experiments to make his most sensitive spots even more sensitive. Inflicted upon him in this time were such tortures as humankind was never meant to know, his insidiously ticklish feet kept in torment for weeks at a time, his body magically preserved to remain in stasis, save for his mind. On the third year anniversary of his incarcaration, a lowly servant who took pity on the child's plight helped engineer his escape.

Misc. Info: Plagued by regret and the desire for vengeance, Seth wanders the land in search of a scapegoat: someone or something to release his aggression on, to blame for what happened to him. He survives by bullying peasants through the use of his Golem. His effeminate, soft feet rarely ever leave the confines of his leather pants. The pants themself are enchanted to keep him clean and dry at all times, effectively preserving him and allowing him to rarely remove them without risk of disease. While being tickled, he has no access to what miniscule magical talent he posesses. Moreso than his hyper-sensitivity (going into [and arguably beyond] the realm of those 'bred for ticklishness'), it is for this reason that he hates being tickled. It is a conundrum he is destined to face for the rest of his life: when facing his most hated torture, he is robbed of his only chance to make it stop.

Name: Dredge

Description: A lumbering, top-heavy mass of black stone and burnished copper, the golem known as "Dredge" is an early and rough prototype of a design meant to, in time, replace soldiers in warfare. He normally remains hidden in a long leather coat and a wide-brimmed hat, though it does little to disguise his ungainly mass. His face lacks any and all feature save for two round glass disks where eyes would be on a human, and a great steam pipe emerges from the center of his back at a 45% angle, though very rarely does anything ever pipe from it.

Bio: Dredge has followed Sethos since the day of his escape from the Temple of Kinetics. It seems drawn to his magical ressonance, and Sethos has found that if he focuses enough of his energy in to the golem, it can be made to follow simple commands. Because it is awkward even when disguised, Dredge is often left outside of highly populated areas.

A final note: Seth's magical talents are extremely limited: if the reader be a D20 (or even oldschool D&D for that matter) player, think in terms of Cantrips (Prestidigitation, Mage Hand, Frost Ray, etc.), maybe a few first level Evocations (Magic Missile, Flaming Hand, etc.). Otherwise, the easiest description I could give is making minor stuff with no significant effect on anything happening, and occasionally mustering enough strength to pester someone with a bit of hurtin'. Because he already suffers persecution, he avoids using these in public view, unless he has ample means by which to hide their use, or is in a situation where he can shift the blame to another, or to coincidence.

If there remain any inconsistencies, please let me know. Thank you for your patience. I can't wait to start even more than last time I edited.

I would suggest you read through the background story too.

While not inherently unbalancing, your character could be further tweaked to make it more setting consistent.

Reg's.

I did actually read the background story. I figured that it didn't matter if he seemed "setting specific" off the bat, because only such a small part of the world is known. Really, he could be setting specific, and no one knows it yet. Also, after reading how varied the other characters were, I didn't think that an odd sort like that would stand out too much.

But if it that doesn't work, any idea on what I could change specifically? I'm not sure I know what about him makes him more or less setting specific, since all I know about the setting is that there are a couple of cities where the PC's have been, and a kingdom suffering a nasty 4-way schism between three potential sucessors and a corrupt government.

Looks very good, but Kalamos is in charge of the RPG setting. You are accepted IF Kalamos decides that it would be okay to overlook the setting consistency.

I posted more infos, about the Tharagyan Peninsula, the Talanic Peninsula and the Morean Empire.

I am serious about setting consistency, because it is the only way to prevent rule-abuses, exploitation of loopholes and stall situations.

I'd rather forbid before, and allow later, than being stuck with something we allowed in and we can't smoothly take out, ever.

I envisioned the magic level to be very low; reasons are twofold: first - this is a free-form game and we have no way to measure power of spells.
Second, this is a tickling role play. None of you guys really need weapons or magic powers anyway...

I liked the Golem idea - it isn't out of setting consistency either - but I feel that allowing multiple character to new players is premature.

If you'd like to tone your magic powers down and leave your bodyguard's control to the DMs [Cassandra and I], I'd feel more comfortable.

Finally, about you character's name: Seth Nevers would be a great name in any sci-fi or modern world RPG. Morean Empire is the fantasy version of Roman Empire, though.

When we started, we allowed a much greater lease of freedom to new players. I can't speak for Cassandra, but I completely regretted it.

Reg's.

Fully understandable. I saw how you began growing a bit...I suppose "impatient" with some other sorts on the thread. I know you're just trying to prevent such abuse from recurring, so I'll make a few revisions. Check the edited sheet. My most sincere apollogies if I came across as a twink: I know this is a tickling RPG, and that powers shouldn't be necissary. I also saw that a lot of people did have powers, and I didn't want to put myself into a regretable possition. All the same, revisions are in order. Please take a look at them.

As for the GM control of the Golem, it does sort of strain against what I had envisioned, since it is a big part of the build and having to wait for it to respond to commands would seriously interfere with how I intended to play the character. Having a Golem under his belt is power enough, so I've focused the character to have little powers otherwise.

-> Ksilrebu

It is nice to see lurkers coming out to participate more.

What baffles me is, many of those lurkers barely posted a comment at all - judging from their posting history they wouldn't even seem interested in tickling.
Then they appear here, out of the blue, with characters barely related to tickling, and a full array of magic, weaponry and weird gadgetry.

I don't know them, I don't know how they are going to use those characters.
Either I dive in, in the middle of the game, interrupting an action because I see a rule exploitation of some kind, or I forbid potentially abusive char-features before those chars join the game stream.

I understand your concerns: you wouldn't want your char "cornered". But the whole point in limiting char powers is preventing that.

Also, consider that anything players have their characters do is subject to DMs' approval. You might say: "I leave the Dragon Tail Inn and stroll about market plaza".
No prob, no big deal, you char simply does that.
But what about "I leave the Dragon Tail Inn, go to market plaza and have my Golem slaughter a couple of traders ... " or "have my Golem steal a pig for lunch"?

Free form doesn't mean your chars are free to do whatever they want.
It simply means you aren't burdened with stats and numbers.
But it works just like a pen and paper RPG: you don't say what your char does. You state what it *is going to do*.

Usually DMs don't interfere. It would be pointless and slow game down.
But anytime you interact in any major way with the gaming world [which effectively is a huge character under DM's control] or with any playing char, you must wait and see the outcome of your intended actions.
This is not a "house rule" I made up: it is an official rule I am bent on enforcing when I sense potential exploitation or abuse.

About the Golem: automaton technology is very very primitive in the Morean Empire.
I am not making this up: I've a lot of design notes ready, and I was considering about adding steam power or golem power to the world well before you posted.
I realized it would be out of place, yet, but early experimental prototypes wouldn't be unfeasible.

So, even if you had a golem as a sidekick, if would be fairly "weak". No more strong than a burly tavern bouncer. And much more prone to mechanical failures.

It would also be nice if you roleplayed the meeting with the golem, or its liberation.
For example: your char escaped the Morean Temple of Kinetics - there is no such thing as Academies or Guilds in Morea. The golem followed him for whaever reason: maybe it is your char's "magic vibrance" that effectively animates the golem. Maybe they are reciprocally attuned.
You ran for it, but your golem couldn't keep up - and it was recaptured.
Last time you seen it, they were sending it to Asperum, to sell it as a multi-functional mechanical slave.
The Kinetic Priests are on its tail too, since they don't want a precious prototype to end up dusting the furniture in a patrician house.

This would help you and your char get progressively inside the on-going game.
Otherwise we'd have a boy and his golem, popping out of nowhere, and suddenly meeting other chars, with no good reason to be there.

About your sheet:

You could still use the original name, if you want to. Just change it to "Sethos Newyr".
It doesn't have to be roman in style; it just need a bit of fantasy flavour. 😀

About the powers: I am familiar with AD&D 2, DnD 3.0 and DnD 3.5. Also, I have a smattering of Gurps and Merp.
Limiting initial powers to cantrip-like spells is a good place to start.
Consider your char is no formal mage, so he'd be more like a DnD sorceror or a Gurps wild talent / natural knack mage.

Also, magic in Morea is an inner force, not unlike psionics, rather than DnD style dweomer magic.
Physics is rarely interfered with as per most DnD spells. Merp-like magical effect are more in line - minus the attack spells of most elemental Ways.
There are attack spells in the game - but they are military secret. You can't cast a Fireball just as you can't grab a tank and have a ride.

Ok, should be enough. A long post not aimed at Ksilrebu's char only.
Subtle is the word in Morea: you have powerful spells or powers? You'll attract the attention of the Imperial Vramynes - the Spell Priests - and their Cohors Vramynia.
Stay sharp. Stay alive. 😉

Reg's.

Alright, let's say all that stuff is OK by me. The change to his history, his reason for being where he is, getting back his Golem of limited newly limited strength, etc. Re-Edited the sheet to reflect this.

Now, on to the matter of the Golem's use: Might I still use it, allowing that it does nothing that a burly bouncer with little to no intelligence of it's own might do? If I overstep this boundry, just change the Golem's actions for me. Or change the final outcome. You, granted, have no way of knowing whether or not I'll be abusive until I post. That's fair enough. But really, give me a short probation period or something.

What baffles me is, many of those lurkers barely posted a comment at all - judging from their posting history they wouldn't even seem interested in tickling.
Then they appear here, out of the blue, with characters barely related to tickling, and a full array of magic, weaponry and weird gadgetry.

That's a fair reflection, with a good reason behind it: I don't feel very useful here. I'm no good at finding pictures that haven't been posted like 30 times anyway, I'm a terrible artist, and I'm suffering a horrible case of writers block. I don't have anything to contribute. I do enjoy RPing, however. I'm a D20 player twice a week, and a Free Form player whenever I get the chance. And I also like tickling; this character is much more tickling oriented than his character sheet might initially lead one to believe. I just don't know how to communicate that via the sheet.

Now, with the twice-edited sheet and the changes I've made to the backstory, might I start?

Name: Foros Visgana a.k.a. Duke Diablo
Age: 24
Gender: male
Race: Human
Description: 7' tall, this gigantic, muscular warrior has long, brown hair and a dark tan.
When not wearing his dark armor and a matching helmet, he likes to dress according to the latest court fashions. He has emerald-green eyes which always seem to look into your soul, trying to find your deepest secrets. If it comes to battle, he likes to engage his enemies with his broad, black bastard sword in one hand and a gigantic black tower shield with a red pentagram painted in the middle in the other.
Bio: Born as a son of a duke and a peasant girl, Foros barely escaped his fathers men when they came to his mothers house searching for this 'proof of duke's adultery'(him) and only because midwife hid him in a basket and ran away before they came. Duke's soliders went to search for the midwife, but they were unable to find her for a few days. As for Foros's mother, she was taken to duke's dungeon in secrecy to be interrogated about the whereabouts of her son. A day later, an old veteran came to house where Foros was borned looking for some rest and, if possible, food. He found Foros there, and, judging by the carnage left in duke's soliders wake, he assumed that his parrents were killed and took the boy away to teach him the way of the warrior. Years have passed, and young Foros grew into a mighty warrior under the strict tutelage of the old warrior. When he thought he was ready, the old man told Foros of his real home and what he thought that happened to his parrents. Foros wanted revenge, just as the old man expected. Old man told him that he had learned him all that he could, but that would not be nearly enough. He needed a good weapon and armor if he wanted to take duke down along with his guards, and there was one guarded by the fabled demon Ragnarok, who guarded it in his cave. Foros knew he couldn't handle the demon himself, so he organised a party of thirty men to hunt the demon down. While the men fought the demon and distracted him, Foros slipped in his cave quietly, donned the armor, and took the weapon. Then, he came back and slew the demon from behind. Except him, no one survived that attack.
After that, Foros attacked duke's castle, killed the duke and claimed the title for himself. But, before he did that, he found out the real truth about his childhood. In order to statisfy his lust for vengeance, Foros ordered to have ex-duke's daughters and wife thrown into dungeon and tortured for his pleasure. Since duke's soliders refused obedience, he slew them all and did the dirty job himself. Duke's only son organised a raiding party that cast Foros out, so now Foros wanders the wastes in search for another rise in station… by any means necesarry.
Misc. Info: Foros, although evil in his heart, doesn't appear such at first glance. He is merry, cheerfull and funny, at least while in public. He likes to manipulate people in his never-ending quest for power, use them to further his own goals, and they are often unaware of doing so. He likes to strike his enemies when they are most vunerable, waiting for his chance (and scheming all the time).

I'm sorry if it's the wrong thread, but I didn't know where exactly to post. Is this char OK?

Suggested Changes:

Name: Phoros Visgana
Age: 19
Gender: male
Race: Human

Description: 6' tall, this gigantic, muscular warrior has long, brown hair and a dark tan.
When not wearing his dark armor and a matching helmet, he likes to dress according to the latest court fashions. He has emerald-green eyes which always seem to look into your soul, trying to find your deepest secrets. If it comes to battle, he likes to engage his enemies with his broad, burnished Spathios sword in one hand, and his black leather Skutamos shield, adorned with red glyphs.

Bio: Born the illegitimate son of a duke and a peasant girl, Phoros barely escaped from his father's men when they came to his mother's house, searching for the 'proof of duke's adultery' only because the midwife hid him in a basket and ran away before they came.
The duke's soliders went to search for the midwife, but they were unable to find her for a few days. As for Phoros's mother, she was taken to duke's dungeon in secrecy to be interrogated about the whereabouts of her son.
A day later, an old veteran came to house where Phoros was born, looking for a place to rest and, if possible, food. He found Phoros there, and, judging by the carnage left in duke's soliders wake, he assumed that his parrents were killed and took the child away to teach him the way of the warrior.
Years passed, and young Phoros grew into a mighty warrior under the strict tutelage of the old warrior.
When he thought he was ready, the old man told Phoros of his real home and what he thought that happened to his parrents. Phoros wanted revenge, just as the old man expected. The old man told Phoros that he had taught him all that he could, but that would not be enough, yet.
Phoros needed a mighty weapon, if he wanted to take the duke and his host of soldiers down. A mighty weapon such as the one guarded by Ragylos, a retired warrior of old, and reputedly a sorcerer and a demon.
So, Phoros set out to recover the relic.
To accomplish this quest, he first needs to assemble a war party and sneak into Ragylos's Castrum.
Only then, with the fabled sword firmly in his grasp, will Phoros be able to take on his father's army, and become duke in his stead.

Misc. Info: Phoros, although evil in his heart, doesn't appear such at first glance. He is merry, cheerful and funny, at least while in public. He tries to manipulate people in his never-ending quest for power, use them to further his own goals, and they are often unaware of doing so. He likes to strike his enemies when they are most vunerable, waiting for his chance (and scheming all the time).

I've just given a cursory glance to your char.

While it is perfect for an epic sword and sorcery RPG, he might have problems fitting in a tickling RPG.

Since I am trying to discourage combat from becoming predominant in the game, your char might lose his greatest asset: his fighting prowess.

If you don't mind compensating your powers with a disadvantage in social interactions and tougher foes to present your char with a fair challenge, then feel free to join us.

I'll check your sheet more in-depth, later. I'd like to think over some details.
