Tower of Gargalesis (Tickling RPG M/F, F/F, F/M)

Actually, a suggestion for you and all tickling game makers: A God Mode is a pretty good thing to have in your game. Make it completely optional but leave it there, it helps a shitton. Some people are just interested in the tickling content and not in the "game" factor of the game. Or at least sometimes they just feel like stomping everything and getting to the content.

But I play a game to finish it. Adding a god mode would be too tempting to use and would make the game boring.

Anyway Deus, if you need any music I posted a thread with some music packs (there are four packs as of posting this comment).

I have to agree with Alexandah on this, while a god mode would be a nice feature to have from the start, it would completely kill the experience, ToG and other tickling RPG's are meant to be rewarding experiences for those who put forth the effort, if you have a god mode from the start you'd be getting very little fun out of the game and the scenes won't be as rewarding, because it wouldn't be challenging in the slightest, now if there was a god mode option it'd probably only be available after completing the game once.

Uh....I guess level scaling. That really screwed over the game to me. It forces you to have to do battles at a certain time and restricts you from doing anymore fighting till you did boss fights.

The writing was supurb. As well as haunted mansion.

I have a possible way around this. I'm still deciding if I'll implement it or not, but the idea is that at character creation if you enter a certain name, it loads a menu or room or something where you can just view the various scenes throughout the game. The restriction would probably be no bosses and no end game content, to give an incentive to play through the game.

Like I mentioned before, the enemy leveling system is gone. That said, I don't think overleveling will be a problem with what I have in mind. The goal, at this time, is that doing everything as it becomes available will prepare you for each main story related event as they occur.

With the exception being the battle with Gargalese at the end, which is meant to be incredibly difficult and test everything you've learned over the course of the game. I may or may not go into more details about that.

But if you explore and pay attention, you will find the bosses very doable. Still a challenge, but not something where you slog at a sack of Stamina for 10 to 40 minutes because they just have too much health and hit too hard.

Thrilled to see you back, Deus.

This is a neat idea.

Another thing that's similar and useful is having a room/dungeon that's populated with the bosses/enemies that you've already beaten, so that you can go there to re-watch scenes instead of having to catalog a bunch of save files. I think this was done in Cackling Cave, via Lurker's library room (?), and probably in another game or two I'm forgetting. CommonEvents FTW.

Deus! It's great to hear you're alive and well. Sorry to hear about the crippling depression. It happens to some of the best of us. And sorry to hear about the computer frying. I can see that being a catalyst.

Also let me say that I hope none of my critiques aren't regarded too harshly. I do think the game, even in its incomplete form, was something special.

Exciting to hear you might try to make more, though. Please don't try to push yourself too far. Better to keep us wanting then to burn out on anything. I would also suggest that you shouldn't be afraid to ditch elements of the old game in an effort to make something new. If a core part of that old story doesn't work anymore, its cool. It'll live on as is.

Finally, if you're setting out the suggestion box...
Someone already suggested the Cackling Cave style review of scenes. I think that's a great idea. It keeps us from having to memorize a billion save states, and is a good reward for getting further in the story. Ideally, as many of these games never finish, that would be accessible right away, and populated as you finish more things.

I also was always a bit frustrated that you couldn't save after a fight, but before the reward of a tickle scene or choice. Save spots there would be great.

Anyway... major point here is its good to hear from you again. Regardless of whether you produce more for us weirdos.

I was playing around with this game the other day. I am excited you want to revamp it and make it what you wanted it to be! =)

Welcome back, Deus. I seriously had you in the KIA list and was certain that you'd never return. Not even joking about that. But I'm very glad to know that you are still alive and willing to get back at game making.

What really excites me is that of all the games that have been made, and are still being made now, since you disappeared, ToG still has the best bellybutton tickling scene of them all. AnimeWatcher is the only one that has gotten even remotely close to matching it in "The Laughing Isles". I can hardly wait to see what you've come up with for the revamp.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to implement a way to review scenes as they're unlocked. I'd hate to force people to waste save slots on that, so very early on (probably at the end of chapter 1) you'll get the option to view everything you've unlocked thus far.

I can try on the post-battle/pre-reward screen. I don't think it's possible to have a save point mid-fight. I'll keep looking into it, I just think RPG Maker as a program can't handle that.

I want to pre-warn everyone though (and this isn't directed specifically at you Carnivore, just taking time to say it)

I don't have any of the original game. Like, zilch, nothing at all. If you have a favorite scene, I can't promise it's going to show up in the rewrite. If you have something you really, really liked, send me a transcript or something for it. I'll do what I can to include it in the new take, with possible updates since my writing back yon was pretty awful.

Dues, I've still got your last update of the game with everything un-packed if you want a copy, that'll mean you can have EVERYTHING! I did it cause it didn't look like you were coming back, so I figured "Fuck it, let's see what little hidden goodies he had stashed for later"

That would be great. I'll have to get a crack of VX to be able to read the info, but that could definitely speed things up a little.

Recently played through ToG again after so long(big fan btw), Dues's resurrection reminded me that it exists.

There are some very enjoyable moments, particularly the scenes with Lady Venus and that queen of flies chick. The writing and atmosphere of those scenes truly captured the helpless feeling of the outsider which is what I enjoyed the most out of this game.

Yeah, I agree that the 'grinding' nature of the game did get you down sometimes but I still don't think everything should be handed to the player on a platter, you have to work for those tickle scenes to make the all the sweeter. Maybe simplifying the combat and overall design of the game might make it easier on you as a designer and for the player? I don't know. I'm not a game designer.

But yeah, cool to see you're alive and ok. Just take it one step at a time.

I'll leave it uploading whilst I'm at work tomorrow, I'll inbox you the link bud!

Can't you just redownload it from the official website?

Cause the original wasn't unpacked, so he'd still have to do it all from scratch

What??

DEUS RETURNED?

GREAT!!!!

Best game ever!!! it really brought me to another world... great great great!

I'll red the discussion tomorrow, now it's 02.04 A.M. in Italy and I'm very tired... anyway... THANK YOU!!!

Its wonderful to hear that you're back Deus. Not just because your game is awesome (it is my favorite game on here, no offense intended to other makers), but because your talent for writing is such a beautiful thing. I understand the feeling of depression very well and hold absolutely nothing against you for disappearing. I'm just glad you're alive.

I'm very excited that you want to work on the game again, even if its from scratch. I know it'll take some doing, but I will wait as long as it takes for such quality work that you do. Take your time my friend, you'll never disappoint. Welcome back. 🙂

Yikes, Deus, sorry to hear about what you went through! I've kinda been down that road myself, and I know it's not the easiest thing to pull yourself out of... So kudos to you! Glad to have you back <3

P.S. I played your game and thought it was the best thing ever, so it's exciting to hear you're feeling inspired!

Deus! It's been so long since you've been here. But I'm glad you're back, I love ToG and I can't wait to see the new one! You're an excellent and talented game designer.

Great to know you´re back Deus! :lol
Well, i hope everything is better with you and don´t blame yourself for anything, life goes on and you have the potential to change it in every second. Take care, man!

I´m a huge fan of ToG and i´d like to put here the best things i found. So if you´re gonna start it again, i hope you considerate it.

*Great Writing: All the tickle scenes are perfect! Don´t give a f*** for people asking too much about that. Keep going, your writing is awesome, i´m not american/british and can understand everything or stay hours reading your script. It´s perfect! Focus on the the development of the game.

*Game Over Scenes: This is one of the best things. It´s focused on both sides, not only the "ler" side. It made many people here LOVE the enemies, giving them personality.

*Classes Body Weaknesses: That was awesome and the game can be replayed lots of times because each boss tickles one part of the body. So if one was easier on a class, it may not be with another. Keep it, please!

*Side Quests/Optional Bosses/Traps: Congrats for it!

Well, if i can help, i would love to try anything to make it work. Welcome back again and thanks for your return. :evilha:
