The most recent version ends after beating the 2nd floor's boss (can't remember her name off the top of my head) also I think I know what Carnivore is talking about when he mentions "bonus" areas as I was also a beta tester for the later part of TOG's development mainly as a bug tester but I did give feedback on occasion, the "bonus" areas Carivore is talking about if we're talking about the same thing weren't really new areas that gave anything new to the actual game itself per se, they were actually more like test fields that were used during the beta testing phase to test certain things in the game before being put into the game itself, an example would be the Paranoia fight, speaking of which there's an interesting story for that one, the version of 4.6 that deus was originally going to to release that would have introduced the "The Grudge" quest had to be pulled at the last minute because it was discovered that there was no way to access the area where you'd fight Paranoia thus making the quest incomplete-able and the game impassible from that point. I also have to agree with Carnivore's statement that all pre and post revamp builds that were released should be available to show how far the project has come since it first started. And what bonus areas??? Did I miss something??? I thought I had the newest version. The revamped version ended after chapter 2 Beelzebebe right???
INSERT BIG RETURN SPEECH HERE
I'm kinda confused does "I can't continue where I left off" and all the talk about doing a lot of things different mean a complete overhaul or a new game? Or is still about the same ToG game?
That's a good question I think what he means with "I can't continue where I left off" is he lost all of the original source materials for TOG (game script ideas and things like that) which would make resuming the development at it's current point hard to do (that and he's lost his copy of VX which could be another obstacle) BTW Deus glad to know that you're still alive and I'm still ready and willing to help any way I can, I have just one question, do you still have the HDD from your broken pc? because if so I might be able to salvage some if not all of that data for you.
OOHH OOHH OOHH!!! YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RECOUVA, RIGHT!?
I have that. It works... although... only if he
A) still has the HDD
and
B) hasn't used it since the incident
(cuz of overwriting the data)
Kinda, first I'd check to see if the sectors on the HDD haven't been damaged because if they're not it should be possible to just connect the HDD to a PC using a SATA/IDE to USB connection (which I have) and just copy the files off of the HDD to something like a flash drive, now if the sectors are damaged then I'd start using RECOUVA but like you pointed out, either method would only work is he still has the HDD and hasn't overwritten the data.
That's what I feared well it didn't hurt to ask. While I appreciate the sentiment, the HDD in question was fried to the point it was making my apartment smell like electrical burn...so it's long since been disposed of, along with the entire computer it was attached to.
I'm glad to hear you have something to work with that's going to help alot in revamping the game.I already have VX Ace, which frankly is so much better than VX I can't even begin to express my love for it. Again, though, thanks for the offers.
You can expect a PM from me shortly.Again, PM me if anyone is interested in helping. It's been a long, long time since I worked on this and I've set realistic expectations for myself.
I always thought you were pretty open to suggestions the first time around TBCH but if you say you're more open now more power to ya.I'm much more open to suggestion than before 🙂
I'd like to put this out there:
I'm reading back through this thread, but since it's a rather long one, if you have any serious or minor grievances with the game (difficulty, scaling, poor writing, etc), tell me and I will address these issues.
I promise nothing like the Haunted House will ever happen again, but if there is anything else absolutely abhorrent, I want to know so I can take that into consideration.
I feel kinda bad being the first to respond to this, but I wasn't a big fan of that system where the enemies scaled to the point that gaining levels actually made it more difficult. It felt like it sorta punished you for playing the game more.
But for the most part, I agree with everyone else. The game had such exciting potential, and what was there was really great. It's great seeing you back, and in the mood to create, with all the inspiration. It's a nice thing to see.
I completely agree and can assure you this is gone.
Leveling up will always be a positive moving forward and you will never cock block yourself by being over prepared. And, in fact, players will be rewarded for exploring as much as possible.
