Tower of Gargalesis (Tickling RPG M/F, F/F, F/M)

I wish it was a glitch...it was actually something much worse. I had the update variable set to Must Equal...instead of Is Equal to or Greater Than. The level 2 thing was my fault, I needed to be level 2 to test the pub game (you don't start with enough health to play it) so I had to change that...it's fixed.

Foot thing is fixed (apparently at some point I removed the Barefoot item).

If leveling is too easy, I'll back off on quests in chapter 3, or just reduce how much experience they give.

Pub Quest will automatically update if you had over 20 points.

Well it doesn't damage gameplay all that much (aside from giving the character a free shot because the shoe event counts as the monsters turn).

I've hit a brick wall with Lady Venus though. Once I get to the second stage of the battle and she puts her roots in I need to keep up a near constant stream of attacks to keep her health down, if I try to heal myself the time I lose allows her to heal herself and I effectively start over. I'm still tryin out new strategies but the main problem for me seems to be that my Tomato Juice doesn't buy me enough time before I need to use another one. What are your thoughts on making Orange Juice a little easier to get hold of at lower levels (perhaps as a quest reward)?

I fully intend to hide a few here and there. I'll probably make one of the Bar Rewards a pack of 5 Orange Juices for 50 points or something.

I changed Venus's regen rate between updates. The original rate was 5%, the rate you guys played was 3% and she's currently at 4%. Just testing different things out. She recovers 12 Stamina a turn...that may be too much so I'll turn it back down (won't update for this reason yet though).

Edit: Damn then the algorithm must work different from how I thought...I lowered her back to the 3.1 regen rate, so by 3.2 she should be back to "Hard but doable"

She's recovering more than 12 Stamina in the version I'm playing atm (3.12 I think)

I tried doing the math and it seemed like she was recovering 19-21 Stamina a turn. At best I'm doing 42 damage a turn (less if tangled) and she's doing around 15-20 damage to me. The frustrating thing is with just one more Orange Juice I could beat her.

Not sure if it's a gltich, but when i complete the "Where's the Cuckoo egg?" Quest, the little girl gives me a "Dirty Paintbrush", but i do not receive it. Intentional, or not? Oh, and i assume in the next chapter, the "Medallions"will come into effect?

Oh piss, no that's not intentional...the Dirty Paintbrush is a weapon, it was a joke.

Carrying with the Zelda reference, the Biggoron Sword was replaced with a Dirty Paintbrush >_>

Damn, I can't believe I forgot that, good to know every other quest works then, though. Yes the medallions will play a part later in the game.

I know it feels like there's a lot in the game right now but there's still a ton to come. Don't worry, as long as I don't completely brainfart it, everything will have a reason for being.

Ok, cause i was secretly hoping the Paintbrush was going to be a "gift" or "persuasion tool" for Tickle Bee, whom i talk to alot. I want her. ^^

Don't worry, she'll be getting an update in V3.2 😀

The 3.15 beta has the toothbrush fixed. Here's a list of coming updates for 3.2 (which could be up as soon as tomorrow afternoon, sooner if the weather gets my class cancelled):

- Hathor and Aello added as NPCs

- Tower Level 1 (over 22 rooms)

- Tower Dungeon

- 3 Mini-Bosses

- 1 Boss

- 4 Victory Scenes

- 8 Game Overs

- More Honey Bee interaction

- Giggle Goblin Pet Quest available

- Gift Giving implemented

- Giggle Goblin Mini-Story started

- Trade Rewards added to the Bar

- More Karma interaction (Did anyone catch the Karma spots in the new updates?)

And the story will start advancing quite a bit. So...hope that sounds like a good call to update. I'm getting a bit strapped on quests, so I don't know what the wait on Chapter 3 will be once I get Chapter 2 done.

I will be looking for that then. I think I already know some of the enemies you'll be using (have kinda seen the building blocks for your games, so I've seen a lot of data and stuff that hasn't been used yet). I'm also curious if you've decided on what other 3 potential special momodo will be. I'm sure you know why. 😉

Btw, one thing I do find odd that isn't really anything. You changed Honey Bee's most ticklish spot from belly to feet. Now I guess I understand WHY you did it, but thing is that...doesn't it kinda negate the point of the whole 'flying' thing? I mean the original point was that when flying you can't really get to her belly so you needed to attack her feet then, but now there's not any point there. Are you going in a different direction with this now or what?

You can only use the Goblin Flute once... after she passes out, at the beginning of every battle afterwards, it starts off stating she passes out, making it unable to use it again in a new battle, and healing from the fairy or pub doesn't help restore her

Me to. I start as a slayer. I could use Goblin flute only once.

That's because it wasn't supposed to be available yet, that was a debugging error on my part.

@Excess: Yeah I might change that back...it was more to make Honey Bee not a liar when you talk to her later, but then again she does say she can hide it well.

@Excess Again: Yeah, I agree, that is entirely the reason why Honey Bee tells you she's most ticklish on her feet. She's one of the very, very few Mamono that actually has feet. The way it's looking...she may end up being the only friendly Mamono that does. I dunno, we'll see what happens 😛

Well just whatever you wanna do with it. I was under the impression that the 6 friendly momodo each had a different body part they were most vulnerable on, and since it would already be appropriate to be feet with her, that could work too. Of course I could be wrong as I'm not sure what you are going with.

Just finished everything (I think).

1) Still getting Mamono reacting to my shoes (still not wearing them), specifically the Giggle Goblins in the Goblin Raid quest.

2) Can someone confirm that the completion of the Bar Game quest just gives you XP etc. and no bonus scenes or anything (also the bonus scene you get from the Cuckoo Egg quest)?

Other than that up to the usual high standard 🙂

Anything that says Bonus Scene is PURELY for future reference. There are NO BONUS SCENES yet. They will not be added UNTIL THE RELEASE VERSION. Then they will all be initialized if you complete the requirements.

I know what's wrong with the shoes thing...it was an initialization process. I'll fix it in the next update (basically, it checks to see if your Footwear is "Barefoot" and if you started a new game in I thin 3.12 or whatever, you don't have that Footwear initialized to your character.

Checking the update now. Not sure how long it's been there, but I like the look of that new ice island your adding. 😀
Glad to hear the tower part's coming along well. And woot to seeing Aello again. :3
Will the next update have more to say to Honey Bee too? She kind of cuts off with some things. "That's all I'll say now."
But I guess that's intentional, until she knows you better.

Yeah, it will release more Honey Bee content. God i can't friggin wait.

So I've been playing some more, and 2 questions have come up:
1: Will I have to replay through the game every time there's an update? (not that I'm complaining just curious)
2: Does the Karma system have any current implications, or will it become more important down the line?

1. I've implemented a fix to the Foot issue that will fix itself in the 3.2 update. So no, you shouldn't have to restart every update. I should have the gamebreaking stuff fixed.

2. Currently, it just effects a few Villager dialogues. But later in the game it will have some pretty big implications (the Ending, the Mage's final Tkl Magic spell, quest availability, etc)

Heard about this project through DA 😉

I took my time in playing this, really trying a lot of scenes out, and I have to say that I'm super impressed by this game so far 🙂 It's thickly designed and there's a lot of great strategy in the attacks and characters.

That being said, I wanted to point out some questions/problems I found in my playthrough. I may have started with a slightly earlier version, so please correct me if these have been fixed already:

1. The Helpless Fairy Quest - Couldn't complete the quest in the journal, though I still got the end result of Free Healing and the rewards from the quest. It simply wasn't showing it as done in the journal. I tested and saw that this was because I had Fruit with me before talking to her. Since it's very easy to get that Fruit early, it'd probably be good to fix that quest and allow for it to be initiated and marked as completed in the same scene when that happens.

2. Gatherer of Goo Quest - Not sure if I'm supposed to be able to complete this or not, but I wasn't able to find any blue slimes.

3. Hidden Camp Out scene - It's a neat thing to fit in 🙂 However, it took me quite a long time to get it to trigger. Maybe that's the point, since it's supposed to be an Easter Egg, of sorts, but it felt like I never would have found the scene unless I was trying for it.

4. Dialogue - Nothing major, but I saw dialogue going off of the screen in a lot of scenes. Immediately memorable was during the hero's induction at the bar. Not sure if you want us to list every place that happens or not, since it's not something that interferes with gameplay.

5. Seeing you're own attributes - More of a question of preference, really 😉 Is there a way to see one's own attributes, like weakness to elements or directed tickles? That might be handy. Of course, not knowing also adds an interesting element of unexpectedness... I can see pros to both.

6. Guarding - I briefly tested out the Defender character and found that his Guard command didn't seem to work, or at least I wasn't understanding it. I was under the impression that the guard was restoring my HP, but I could clearly see from my own stats that it wasn't.

7. Quest Help - I'm no stranger to side-quests in RPGs, and the ones here are nice, simple, and fit the tone very well 🙂 However, I think it would be extremely helpful to have better 'reminders' of what you're supposed to do. I remember once I had trouble finding the Fruit because I couldn't remember where the old man said to find it, and he wouldn't repeat his information. It's a minor touch, but helpful.

All in all, the game is a delight, and I especially love how custom everything is 🙂 I've been playing an Archer, and finding him to be surprisingly easy thanks to being able to read monsters, but I think I'm going to try and play a bit with the Mage and Adventurer to see how they operate differently. I also want to get the hang of the Defender class.
The game isn't too hard or too easy. It's just right, I'm finding. There's enough given to the player to allow them to either grind and level up or grind and build money to buy healing items in order to outlast their enemies. The hardest fight I've had so far was Lady Venus, since I went in without any equipment... The Oni was very tough at first too, until I figured out the pattern.

Looking forward to chapter 2 🙂 I hope my comments have been helpful!

EDIT: Just tested the 'Helpless Fairy' Quest, and it's working fine in this latest Beta, so you can disregard my comment on it

So I don't expect the creator to chime in on this one, but can anyone share any findings they have regarding Karma? I'm trying to do a completely evil runthrough and a completely good run through. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok Deus here is my latest review... for the first time I started as mage. Honestly I can understand why is everyone so jumpy when it comes to Thief and Mage. With mage I couldn't even dream of defeating Lady Venus until lvl 5 and even then I used up all my healing implements. Now with Bee on my hands I want to kill my character by making her jump into lair of goblins. She hits me with 30+ dmg and my mage barely has 120 hp... so four hits and I am down. Only potions I can buy heal me by 30 hp. No healing spells... no spells that hurt her more than 60 hp, anything I do I am over in 5 turns at most.

Really unrealistic for mages.

I will check that out. As I said, I PERSONALLY, have beat Chapter 1 with a level 3 mage. I used no almighty creator powers to do so (other than simple knowledge of everything you could want to know). So, like I said, I'll check in on that.

*This was a very brief test...but I just fought Honey Bee as a level 3 Mage with the level 3 apparel and her regular attacks were doing 13 damage. Not 30, 13. I'm sure if she uses "Tickle Feet" it will get up into the 20's but...DO YOU HAVE THE THIN COTTON GOWN?

You have to stay up to date with apparel or you WILL LOSE. But I cannot recreate the situation you guys are describing assuming I am fully PREPARED for the fights.

**The problem is that you are leveling up to 5, which is a dangerous level. Every level before the third level (2,5,8,etc) is extremely dangerous because you are on the verge of the next armor, but cannot get the next armor yet. Enemies have a set in stone stat increase on each level. If I could make it dynamic I WOULD, but as it is, I cannot.

Honey Bee's Proficiency increases by 3 with every level. I cannot change this, except nerfing her to the point that she would be incapable of harming the Soldier.

I CAN add in an NPC who will reduce your level if you get too high...or I could just give bosses set in stone levels. That would certainly make everything easier but frankly I just don't want to do that. It contradicts the plot, and as an RPG the plot is a rather important aspect.

In the 3.2 update there will be a few additions to the boss fights. Special "Events" you can trigger by doing certain things. Here's an example:

- If Honey Bee uses Flight, tickling her foot removes the state immediately.

More strategic elements like that will be added, making bosses more thought provoking (hopefully). I'm not going to reveal what these events are, but I'm sure some people will discover them and spoil it and then everyone can take advantage of it. That's my full intention, helping each other out with little things.

But seriously...you shouldn't have to go to level 5 to beat Venus. You just shouldn't have to if you are using your skills wisely. I mean good lord, if you have the Small Feather equipped the flipping Mage does 25 damage a pop, and she only recovers 14 a turn in the version you have, while probably doing maybe 15 with a non-effective tickle?

I'll keep looking into it, see what's so broken, but I know for a fact it's not impossible as you make it out to be. If you're really dead set on powerleveling to beat a boss, just save yourself the pain and anguish and power level to the next multiple of 3. That will unlock the next available apparel upgrade.

Just remember: stats are VERY LOW in this game. I'll see if I can fix this by multiplying every stat by 10. If that fixes how drastic one level difference is, GOOD THIS PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. If not, then well...sorry.

***Included as attachments are Lady Venus and Honey Bee attacking a Level 3 Mage with the Thin Cotton Gown using neutral tickling attacks.

Well there is little use to discuss any further. I know what I saw and will leave it at that. Don't care much about it, but wanted to help.

Unless you hear from other players something I doubt you should introduce that NPC or change anything. Maybe it is just me and my inexperienceness.

That's that with critics.

Yes, I believe you. At level 5, Bee and Venus ARE doing too much damage. The problem is it's going to require a rather huge overhaul to fix it without making them complete invalids when fighting the Soldier.

I'm going to try to fix it, but bear in mind is IS going to require me to completely overhaul the database.

*First, I'll see if making apparel available sooner fixes it. If so, I'm not overhauling things.

**Allowing level 6 armor at level 5 drops Bee down to doing on average around 20 some damage to a Mage. Does that sound more reasonable?

***And...at level 6 you will absolutely steamroll Honey Bee because you get Tickle Wisp. I've changed Orange Juice to be available for purchase at level 5, and it's also available through the Bar Game as a prize (50 points for 5 Orange Juices [which equals 10 heals]).

From my testing, making the armor available just one level earlier completely fixed everything. Going one level passed the armor level isn't breaking, and getting the next one level earlier isn't breaking. I think that solves this whole dliemma without a total database overhaul.

What about new equipment every 2 levels? Or when you complete a certain quest?

EDIT: you got it.
