What did people like us do 50 years ago?

Some of them probably had spouses who either indulged them or enjoyed it themselves.
 
PS3 Commercials

Has anyone seen the new line of PS3 Commercials? A kid calls up to complain about how he cant use his PS3 because his grandmother keeps using it. The PS3 guy makes the case that all she had to play with when she was younger was a stick. Its actually pretty funny. Just reminded me of this thread.

50 years ago everybody who was enjoying something else than the majority of people was brought to an asylum and cured with electric shock therapy. 😀
 
Even without the internet I'm sure our ancestors did their own version of this fetish. We shouldn't be so up our own asses to think this is a new thing invented for the last half of the twentieth century.

Well, I'm only 59, but I can tell you that 40 years ago there was very little fetish material available. I could hunt in adult book stores through hundreds of publications and find maybe one story or photo that referred to tickling. That started to change in the with the House of Milan magazines in the mid 1970's.

Obviously the ability to try to interest spouses or dates in tickling activity has always existed.
 
I mean? Isn't there evidence that supports tickling as far back as... one of the english queens? I don't recall, and I remember it being controversial.

I know magazines occasionally did things; the name which must not be uttered (for whatever reason, I wasn't there for it. It's kujman) wrote for magazines prior to the net, I thought, as did a few others? And I think video's were around in the 90's; Real tickling is a decently old company, but I don't know that they started before the 'net.

I mean, I'm pretty sure the community was there, but to a much lesser extent. Someone should come along and support or refute me.

The real question, which I don't have the answer to or even all that strong a sense of how to research it, is whether there existed a discourse about tickling being a fetish with a fetish community to support it. There does exist a historical research specialty on homosexuality, with books such as George Chauncey's Gay New York which tells us, among other things, that back in the '20s a traveling male homosexual would ask another who he thought might be one too, "Is there anyplace gay around here?" If the other man was not homosexual, he would not understand the question and would simply take "gay" as meaning loud and ostentatious and full of revelry. The fact that the word referred to a particular kind of brightness of color and ostentation was known to the inner circle. But was there anything equivalent for BDSM fetishes? That's a good question. Hey, I just thought of something: Maybe Kinky New York is a book waiting for me to research and write.

The only thing that "more than likely" changed was just the availablity of material. As for lers and lees, they have been around forever! It would be silly to think otherwise...

50 years ago? Those were the days of "Swingers" ie wife-swappers, weren't they?

I gues in 1959 you tickled your sweetheart in the back of your car at the drive-in and hope she didn't storm out and call for a cab home! Or you went to the "red-light" district in an overcoat and bought a girlie mag....or you hired a hooker at the Shriner's convention in Vegas once a year.....

Man the 50s sucked!

(On the flip-side, the 50s and 60s were TAILOR MADE for serial killers; no DNA, precious little forensics, no media exposure yet; why not "serial-ticklers" as well? A 'perv' could drive around Ike's fresh new Interstates picking up runaway hitchikers and tickle them silly in a motel room! Not a bad story ideer...hmmmmmm...)
 
Then again.....we had baseball to fall back on so it wasn't all that bad.

Course it could easily be an urban myth that has taken a life of its own on.

But it was around, I'll bet. There was just precious little communication between the tk folks. But I'll bet it's been around for many thousands of years.

Hmm, I swear I have some stuff in my files that's relevant to this topic....

AH HA!

My time lurking here and at the Theater turned up these little gems. Not outright tickle-centered material (I think the comic itself was more focused around BDSM), but it proves that publishers were at least aware of this little kink. I also know somewhere out there that someone posted an old 8mm stag film from back in the old days that had tickling make up a good portion of the footage. Something about Sorority girls in hosiery.

Anyway, if anything, this post reinforces the idea that the tickling community still existed back in the day, but it was probably much less mainstream...
