What Were Your Worst Childhood Fears?

I use to be scared of falling off my bed and into a giant hole that would swallow me up and I would be in the dark alone forever and no one would hear me scream!

*yes I have a weird vivid imagination, so sue me*

AAHH Dude, yes! I never remember my dreams and still dont but like a handful that are repetitive. 1 nightmare I'd often have was that of falling! It would freak me out so bad that I'd jar myself awake! Wonder if that has a correlation to a fear of heights? Because thats hit & miss for me.

I gone through all post here and I have 1 thats off the wall. TORNADOES! I was like 4 when I was at my grandma's house and they were watching twister. The famous scene of the first chase was where the movie was. I remember actually hiding behind a chair peeping around to see what happened. Its crazy, alot like being tickled, I was trying to be tough about it. A few yrs later I talked to my dad about needing a steel cage to go through a twister. I'm from Michigan... in the last decade Ive only heard of 1, and it was an EF0 up here! So I'd hear stories and get excited and scared haha

I watch Storm Chaser and the documentary about T.I.V. Its a huge interest and all. But if I ever seen one, fuck... lol I'm glad I have a fast car, cuz I aint sticking around come hell or high water!

Ah man, I used to be utterly fascinated by tornadoes as a kid, thanks to that damn movie too. x) And also coming from a place where they're next to nonexistent. Though I do remember that drive-in theater sequence being very scary, and of course the horrible aftermath at Aunt Meg's place.

There is something to be said about generally non-horrific movies unintentionally projecting phobic impressions upon young minds sometimes. A particular scene from The Sandlot comes to mind... :unsure

Sandlot omg XD
That always made me afraid of dogs behind fences as a kid XD Well, moreso nervous I guess. Yet as a child I was the one that would be near the woods and go, "ooh! A bear!" *pets it*

As for tornadoes, my imagination gets carried away with them. I wouldn't say I've got a phobia of them but I am worried about them during the season. :s

Its like "the falling" fear compounds it. One of the storm chasers that died in 2013 was found in his car, a half mile from where he screamed they were on CB. The other 2 ppl with were a half mile THE OTHER FUCKING DIRECTION! I seen a pic of the car & Jesus Christ it was horrible... the other 2 were outside of it!!! How far do you have to be up in the sky to be separated by a solid mile? Was it the fall that got him??

Spiders, ehh scary. Going blind? would suck but Daredevil! Ghosts? terrifying & spooky but you can legitly escape um. Tornadoes? Fuck. That. Noise.

ants. not just any bugs or insects, specifically ants. i don't know how many of you know about those tiny ant motels (basically roach motels but built to attract ants) but one night i had a nightmare about one of them that was probably 5-10 times the normal size of one. and ants just kept pouring out of it. to the point where they were above my ankles by the time i woke up. ....it stuck with me for a couple decades.

Red Irises.

I'm talking about eyes, mind you.

For some reason whenever I saw a movie or tv show that had a character with red eyes, it would freak me out to no end.

Nowadays, when I see it on some type of media it comes across to me as redundant.

I do have to confess that Darth Maul looked pretty cool though. But he also had splashes of yellow in his contact lenses, so I don't know if that counts.

Being covered in spiders. The very thought terrifies me to the point beyond rational thought.

Oh Christ, what WASN'T I afraid of? XD To be honest, I actually still retain most of these...

Heights. Nope, not fun. I fell off of a playground thing when I was, like, seven, and ever since then, being anywhere up high is a nope.

Water, largely because I never learned to swim. I can handle the shallow end of swimming pools, but even that requires that I work up some courage before getting in.

Surgery. The idea that I'm going to sleep so that people can cut me open and do things with my insides doesn't really appeal to me. Even worse? The thought of waking up in the middle of it...

Dentists. Because fuck dentists. This one can tie into tickling a bit because I've had dreams wherein a dentist tickled my feet to get me to open my mouth, and the whole dream was me fighting not to laugh while this creep tickled me.

Wasps. Because everyone should be afraid of wasps.

And lastly, this one's really weird, but windows at night. When I was a kid, I was deathly terrified that there was someone watching me through my window at night, and I've had a number of bizarre dreams involving windows. To this day, I can't sleep unless my window is covered by my curtain, and if I wake up at three in the morning and happen to glance at my window... NOPE. No more sleep for me. XD

Getting covered by mites, getting dragged underwater by something and walking outdoors with an umbrella while it's raining and thundering fiercely.

MrUselessBeing, I can relate to thunder storms. When I lived near Miami with my family as a child we would literally get epic thunderstorms (and I'm sure the storms are actually even more epic considering the warming of the global tempature). The thunder / lightning was so bad it even scared my father and mother and we used to huddle in our downstairs basement in a makeshift bed so we could all fall asleep together.

Bringing this one back from the dead, since I found it interesting.

I was a scaredy cat child with an active imagination! I used to be terrified of the dark, to such a point that I had to have a nightlight. My closet, that didn't close, scared me to no end. I was convinced that I heard things in there (turns out an old house creeks on occasion).

Also, I was scared of being in a place I couldn't get out of. Turns out, clausterphobia runs in my family and I still have it as an adult, but I can manage it. Needless to say, I Christmas shop online. 😉

I also had tickling fear. As a kid, I HATED it. But I think as Karen (least I think it was Karen) said, I think that was because of confusion of not understanding what the strange feelings I was having while tickled were all about. I didn't start getting it until I was in my teens when I had the "uh oh, what's this about" moment.

That said, being tickled by a lover/partner? Awesome. Tickled by family? Sucks shit.

That was me alright xD I was the same, and until I was nineteen and met Senshi for the first time I thought I just might genuinely not be ticklish, even though by then I was at least semi comfortable as a switch. I'd spent so much of my childhood and teenhood denying that I was ticklish to back family and friends off the idea that I thought it was true. Needless to say, I was wrong on that front :lol

Ha, yeah, I get ya. I never lied about it (because god knows that would've been caught early -- I chirp with a poke) but I used to pretend to get mad and upset. For the most part, no one wants to tickle someone who's going to get furious.

Also, a kick in the crotch (especially the male ticklers) tends to send the message. That happened once. >.> Though I felt REALLY terrible about it.

You know the classic, showing up to class and discovering that you have no cloths on? Well for me, I had the fear of being bare-foot... in my mind being bare foot was practically asking to be tickled. I knew I had a tickle fetish... being tickled this way would have only exposed my um, shall we say... interest.

I had a mini-anxiety attack just THINKING about that haofuheugheohgohg

I had a nightmare the other night that I was working on fixing a computer and the inside of the case had little black splotches that I thought was just gunk from someone neglecting to clean it. So I scraped it a little and SUDDENLY FLOOD OF SPIDERS.

There's a rumor going around that a new species of spider has been discovered in Afghanistan. (or Pakistan. forget which) This spider is allegedly tan, furless, and big enough to cover a decent sized window with its body. They are said to feed on pets and small children. Live ones.

I dare not google it. But with the discovery of a silicone based life form at the bottom of the ocean, I wouldn't rule anything out.

Arachnid95, please take that picture down. Arachnaphobia is no joke dude and to make fun of someone's fears is not cool.

Hmph. Alright, but I can assure you that no harm or mockery was intended.

No problem, I know you were just trying to be funny. My apologies if my request was to blunt. Your still a cool dude. 😀

Also, I believe the spider your talking about may be what's called a Camel Spider (and if so, I don't believe they've ever been known to prey upon humans, hell if anything their probably damn scared of us upright, talking, hairless apes).

Camel spiders, just like every other spider, are not aggressive and don't consider humans food. Camel spiders like shade, they live in the desert. They run after humans, camels, (hence their name), and other large creatures, or seem to, because what they're actually chasing is their shadows. If you stand still, they'll chill out in your shadow happy as can be.

Also, just to put every arachnophobes mind at rest, there is no species of spider large enough to have the hubris to consider human children prey.

Perks of having a husband who knows a lot about spiders. Senshi helped me get (mostly) over my arachnophobia through knowledge--I still panic sometimes when they're on the ceiling or something, but he's taught me just how not aggressive to humans they really are.
