BOOM! Update-time!


Since the first roster has been released, I think it is time to decide the draft order. People may still join, but anyone who joins from now on will be put at the bottom in the draft list*, which currently looks like this:

To be fair, I put myself at the bottom intentionally, organizing AND participating in the pool as I am. I want it to be clear that I'm not taking advantage of that in any way. [edit: switched position with poopies as per his request] The rest of the draft order I just scrambled, it is completely random.

But if you look closer at the draft rounds (bottom of the OP) you will find that I've balanced the draft out a bit so everyone has an equal opportunity to draft a good team. After each draft round, the draft order is reversed, meaning that ultimately, the person who has the first overall pick also gets the last overall pick.

Picking first overall still gives you an edge obviously, but you don't get first dibs on the stars AND the pseudo-stars AND the average talents.

*Again, I won't be stopping Poopies from drafting last if he really WANTS to, lol, so he will remain last and any new additions will still draft before him.

But seriously, if there are protests for using that system then we won't. I think it's the best way to balance the pools, however.



By the way, should we allow "trades", as in, swapping positions with one another? Because I've got my eyes on a player I think will be gone by pick #6. I don't think I'd mind trading pick 6 and 7 for a higher 1st-rounder and, let's say, a 3rd round pick. Getting that player would simplify soooo much for me! D:

Maybe we should keep it simple since this is the first time we're playing, but introduce such a trade system when we do this for the Olympics?

Problem is that we can't start doing those trades until we stop allowing further participants to join in, either way. Except for the top 6 the draft positions aren't final yet.

I would totally switch if you wanted. I was in two fantasy hockey leagues last year, one with my dad's friends and one with my friends, and somehow I drafted last in both, and I ended up winning both. I think it's a blessing.

I can see why you'd think it's a good strategy to get to draft two players in a row, but "don't stare yourself blind" at that fact so to speak, you still draft at lower positions! 😱

But if you want to be last overall I'm not gonna stop you >:3 I'll be off to update the draft order right away!

Hmmm.... you're right! It's just the list of players invited to the "Selections Camp"! They would have to delay all the fun eh?

Well Sweden is the only country to have announced their roster so far, and even they still have a vacant spot. I admit though, I'm getting impatient as well, and I think it would be good for "team morale" to release the rosters as soon as possible so the kids don't have to go and wonder if they made the team or not.

That's probably why Pär Mårts (the Swedish head coach) announced the team as early as he did: It sends the signal that he really believes in the players he has selected.

I just love Mårts, I have never been so confident in the abilities of a coach. Ever. It's definitely gonna be Canada vs. Sweden in the final again! 😀

In that case we should have the draft no later than on December 20, but I guess we can look closer on a date about a week or so from now when we know more about the release dates of the other nations' rosters 🙂

Ok, fair enough, I'll PM you when something important happens. 😉

But in that case I think we'll have to hold the draft on December 17. I don't think I can be here on the 22nd.

Two things:

1. If we do the draft on December 17, what time is good for everyone? Because it'd be good if we can do the draft in one evening.

2. Does everyone have yahoo, aim, msn or skype? I suggest we use either Yahoo or Skype since it's easy to download and register for those who haven't got it. The draft selections should still be made with posts in this thread so it'll be easier for me to summarize the rosters in the OP, but we can use the IM to "bump" and let the person who's next in line know quickly that it's his turn.


To answer the two questions for myself:

1. I can't be on between 17:00-22:00 CET (that would be 11:00-15:00 on the American East Coast) since I have night classes then, but otherwise I can be up either in the middle of the night or in the early morning. 🙂 I SUGGEST we start the draft at 20:00 East Coast time.

2. I got all the IM's mentioned above, but my vote is on Yahoo.

Ummm.... is there a way I could make a list of people I want and auto-draft or something? Like i could give my list of players to you, and you could draft for me... but you can't let anybody else see it, because I don't want anyone to know my sleeper picks.
