the "baseball only" thread

That is correct. Telecast begins at 8pm eastern time. 😀
Yeah, the telecast begins at 8pm but the game will not start until about 9pm when they get their commercials and Joe Buck pompoms out of the way. And of course the children on the East Coast get screwed again.

Let's be real about this. Does anyone out here like Joe Buck as a play by play guy? I think he is so full of himself. He, in my opinion, promotes himself and half the time is not sure what is going on in the game. Thank goodness Tim McCarver is there ( though Timmy has slowed down a bit in the last 5 years. ) I don't believe an exhibition game should decide homefield advantage in the World Series either.

Since they know in advance that it decides home field advantage for the World Series, I don't have a problem with that.

It was never decided before that way. Why should an exhibition game decide it. Why not just have a preseason game or a coin toss decide it then. It is stupid what they have done to baseball. :illogical

Personally, I detest interleague play and the designated hitter. But Bud Selig doesn't consult me on how to run MLB.

I agree with you about that too. I hate interleague play and despise the DH rule.

Too bad the Commissioner is only interested in marketing to the casual fan. 🙁

It's too bad that Bud Selig is the Commissioner of Baseball. I wish we had a different commissioner. Someone who actually understood how the true fans felt about the game.

All the commissioners that I can remember in my lifetime (except Bart Giamotti, whose tenure was brief) were interested in the business of selling baseball as entertainment, not in the integrity of the game, to which they give lip service.

I actualy agree with you guys on the DH rule and interleague play 😱

As far as the All Star game goes, if it has to happen, it may as well determine something. Otherwise, just get rid of it all together.

And also, any teams want to trade for Bellhorn? 🙄

Basketball All-Star game does not determine anything nor does the NHL All-Star game. Football plays their All-Star game at the end of the season. The baseball All-Star should not determine a thing. It hadn't until the 7-7 game in Milwaukee when they screwed it up. Explain to me what homefield advantage means in the World Series means to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or the Kansas City Royals? No other sport has their All-Star game determine anything. Why should baseball? BTW, do you really think that the Cincinnati Reds care who get homefield advantage this year?It is a stupid rule.

As far as I'm concerned for the most part All Star games are useless and should be eliminated completely.

They are a fun exhibition but that the way it should stay. I believe that homefield should be determined by best record. WOW Bud Selig, what a concept.!!!

I find the Homerun Derby ( batting practice :manicd: ) more exciting than the exhibition game 😛

If I wanted to watch batting practice, I would just show up at the game 2 hours early and not have to listen to Chris Berman get excited about a homerun that does not count in the stats when Thursday rolls around. Plus then I have a chance at catching the ball in batting practice and not have to watch it on TV.

The Dodgers begin after the All Star Break at home against the hated jints.

The Mets start the second half of the season on a 10 game homestand. This homestand will decide if the 44-44 Mets are contenders or pretenders. They open up with a 4 game set against the Atlanta Braves. They then set their sights on the 1st place Padres who come to Shea for 3 and then the Los Angeles Dodgers finish off the homestand with a 3 game set next weekend. If the Mets go 7-3 or better they will contend. If they do less than 7-3 they will probably pretend the rest of the season.

The way the Dodgers are going now, you should look forward to that 3-game series at the end of their homestand. 🙁

I am hoping for the Dodgers to sweep the hated jints in the series which begins tomorrow. 😀
