the "baseball only" thread

I believe that Mike is in the twilight of his career now. The Dodgers were foolish to trade him so young, but the Mets were right to let him go now.

I hope so. I'm not a fan of his, but it would be a shame if he retired (again 😛) after not being able to play in the World Series because he was injured. 🙁

I'm hoping Bartolo Colon will be healthy for the Angels next season.

Clemens might have another couple of good years left in him. 😀

From that article
"Clemens made $18 million this season, when he led the major leagues with a 1.87 ERA and went 13-8. He finished third in the NL Cy Young Award voting behind 20-game winners Chris Carpenter and Dontrelle Willis. "

damn the man is 43 years old!! I have never seen another player keep better shape of himself. I think the only thing that made him think twice about playing another year was the possibility of playing with his som who signed with the Astros!

Now back to my normal Yankee talk...so who will be centerfielder?

"World Class Baseball" was one of the best video games from the 16-bit era.

Baseball video games are cool, but the real games are better. 😀

I expect to go to Florida in March to see some spring training games. 😀

How can you say Mike is done and Clemens has a couple of more years? Mike is 6 years younger and he can still hit. I'll bet that if he goes to Anaheim that he will hit 25 to 30 homers as a DH. He hit 19 for the Mets in an injury riddled season. Mets fans sure want him back. No catching tandem hit better than Piazza and Ramon Castro in the majors last season. The reason the Astros said good-bye to Roger is because he wanted the Astros to offer him salary arbitration but he would not say that he would return. Why would the Astros offer him that if he was not going to guareentee he was going to play for them? Could they afford to count on him and at the last minute he decide he was going to retire?

Clemens led the NL in ERA at 1.87, nobody was close to him. (Second best was Petite at 2.39, then Willis at 2.63.) 1.87 is fabulous.

Piazza batted .251 last year. OK, he was playing hurt, but he batted .266 in 2004, so I don't think he will ever get back to what he did with the Dodgers (which was an incredible .362 in 1997, and .336 in 1996).

All-Star second baseman Alfonso Soriano was traded by the Texas Rangers to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night for Brad Wilkerson, Terrmel Sledge and a minor league pitcher.

Wilkerson was a sandwich pick in the 1998 draft, picked 33rd overall by Montreal.

He got drafted to the Expos AND got a sandwich? Yummy! 😀 Sorry for the off-topic post, also known as spam. Speaking of spam, I wonder if the sandwich was.....ick!

Granted Piazza was a decent hitter considering his injuries last season, but let's face it, he is a liability behind the plate. He can't throw out his grandmother trying to steal second base. Castro had some good clutch hits but he made some glaring mistakes on the base paths.

The Mets made some great pick ups this offseason but, as a Met's fan for 35 some years, you have to take it with a grain of salt. I hope they bring bottled water to Flushing because once they drink the water, they get a huge dose of kryptonite.

Paul Konerko wants to stay with the White Sox! I was hoping he'd come to Anaheim. 🙁 😛

I heard the Cubs had a chance to sign Rafael Furcal, who wanted to play for the Cubs, if they had increased their offer by what one person called "a pittence" (sp). But higher ups reportedly balked at increasing the offer at all and Furcal is now a Dodger. Good news for milagros, but another slap in the face to Cub fans. One guy on the radio said that this is reminiscent of how the Cubs let Greg Maddux get away from them to go to Atlanta. I mean back when Maddux's best years were still ahead of him. Getting him when he's past his prime, now that's the kind of deal the Cubs make.

I am glad that the Dodgers got Furcal, who will be a fine leadoff hitter/base stealer/shortstop. But we still need starting pitching. I'm dreaming of the Dodgers signing Roger Clemens.

Go Angels

0🙂

I think since the Angels got a new manager, that means they will start on a winning streak. 0🙂 Go Angels

Actually, I believe that the manager of the Angels is still Mike Scioscia, whom I like, because he is not merely a former Dodgers, but was an important player on the World Champion 1988 Dodgers.

As long as Mike is managing the Angels, I will root for them in the AL West.

I can only hope that our new GM will acquire some starting pitching so we can have a better year in 2006. 😀
