A hope and a prayer?

Well, I agree that we are on the verge of another "cycle", Strel....most likely a nasty one that will harken back to almost repressive again. The extended period of permissiveness has been running its course for quite a while now, and the equilibrium will be reestablished eventually, as it always has been throughout history. The behavior of most of society today (not just youth) is abominable by the standards of 60 years ago. I feel as though I bite my tongue nearly constantly all day long whenever I'm rubbing elbows with the unwashed masses....probably makes me sound elitist, but being an owner in a service industry, I get to meet all sorts of people, spanning our economic and educational strata, and am often unpleasantly surprised by the actions of theoretically well educated "successful" people. Obviously not everyone can relate well with each other, but I've been told most of my life that I'm a fairly easygoing , semi-tolerant fellow, and I think I have a good perspective on human behavior in general. Crappy public behavior is everywhere, from the moron with the 200 decibel music blasting from his open windows, to the woman with the "fog" of perfume floating around her in a 10 foot circle of death, to the nasty language of both children and adults in ALL sorts of public spots. If the devil delights in these torments, he must be giggling constantly. Perhaps "true evil" consists of just that...this constant erosion of values that are important, and are made to seem trivial. We are being worn down with this "drip" of evil upon us in such a subtle manner that is saps your will to action. May the gods help us when the worm turns...it'll be ugly beyond belief. Q

Thanks bud! Always appreciate those significant pauses...lol. Although we DO stray OT a bit, it's nice to get into the "side effects" of the tickling fetish and how it impacts other areas of our lives at times. Other than those rare purge periods, it tends to dominate most social situations (at least in MY mind..lol), and the topic is brought back to the frontal lobe in summertime by nearly every woman I see! You lucky left coast people are spoiled by all that nice weather, although I guess we cold country types get to "anticipate" the appearance of sandals, shorts and sports bras. BTW, dvnc, ever get Aimster on track with that Mac (poetry...)? Q

Q, I think you're right about the constant erosion of values that are important, but are made to seem trivial. That's sorta the point I was trying to make in my last post.

I've been reading a lot of 20th Century history lately, and it's convinced me that Gavrilo Princip didn't just assasinate Franz Ferdinand in 1914 - he also assasinated Western Civilization. Someone (Heinlein?) likened the Roaring 20's to the Cheyne-Stokes breathing of a dying civilization. I find it hard to disagree.

It's fashionable among social conservatives to blame it all on the 60's, but in my view the rot set in much earlier. Let's inspect just one current pathology: The Nazis were rightly denounced for their attempts at cleansing the gene pool, including euthanizing crippled infants, the insane, the chronically ill. But these notions started with the post-WWI American Eugenicists, as the Nazis themselves admitted. Now, their ideas are back again under the guise of "right to die" and "quality of life" and are accepted as almost mainstream.

As I said earlier, there are signs of hope. You used the example of a moron with a 2000 watt car stereo as an exemplar of the decline of civility. Well, a magistrate in the Midwest recently struck back. He sentenced one of these jerks to listen to music by Frankie Yankovic, the Polka King, for 4 hours. Sentence was carried out in a police interview room one Saturday afternoon. If we can keep a sense of humor like this, the return swing of the social pendulum might actually be fun.

Still, there are a few advantages to our current situation. Imagine the poor Victorian tickler, contending with whalebone corsets, crinolines, and high buttoned shoes!

Uh, possibly, but that's not where I got it. A bit of exposition is required:

A couple years back, I was talking with some co-workers about the wit and wisdom found in Dennis Miller's "The Rants." I was quoting the rant about racism, where Miller says that the bigoted won't stop when we're all one color; they'll start going after all the other franchises of their religion, then go after all the left-handed people, Then whoever wears glasses, then they'll go after each other over who has the shorter crewcut, until there's only one guy left and he'll probably attack the mirror. One of my co-workers, a young girl of 19 summers who happened to be left-handed, walked in at the tail end of this conversation and indignantly asked "What's wrong with left-handed people?!?" I explained the quote in context, but she was still a teensy bit defensive. Later, when talking about a completely unrelated matter, I playfully decided to give her a little teasing: "...He ran out of there crying like a little girl... a little LEFT-HANDED girl!" The phrase has since become lodged in my vocabulary banks, and I tend to use it interchangeably with "red-headed stepchild."

My apologies for the confusion, if any, but now you all have a fun new expression to try at home!

I like It!

Given the context and background, I like the phrase, better than "red-headed stepchild" anyway. I play a lot of sports and in several of them being left handed is considered an advantage, so I tend to heckle the lefties a bit about it. My favorite is telling them we should set up leagues for "mutants and aliens" so there's a level playing field. But, my best friend is lefty, and so's my racquetball doubles partner, so I have to think they are also wired a bit...differently, as I always have assumed I am.

Strel, I'm still laughing about the polka punishment. Wish I lived out there so I could vote for the gutsy judge who had the stones to try an effective measure! Over here in NY they would have immediately filed for a retrial and sued him on 4 different fronts for something like that. MadKalnod brought up a very apt point from the Rants, that unchecked extremism is one of the most dangerous critters around! This type of social behavior is what drives vigilantism to the forefront eventually. I currently have my "Master List" of people the world would be better off without in my safe deposit box, and may all the gods help them if I'm diagnosed with anything terminal...I'm going out with company, and the world will thank me later...lol. Q

Sinister?

As it happens, I'm a lefty myself, and I notice others who share my affliction. My daughter's pediatrician, my pharmacist, her daughter the insurance actuary, many engineers/architects/scientists. We seem to be well represented in fields that use math, much more so than our % of the general population.

Interesting point about vigilantism. People routinely behave in ways that would have gotten them branded as savages 30 years ago, and ostracized from decent society. The pop culture sneers at such old fashioned notions, so there's no help there any more. Not everyone is as easy going as Q - is it any wonder that we see road rage and similar free-lance responses? I've never punched out a movie theater blabbermouth, but I've come close.

That's why I like the story about the Polka Punishment - it's a form of guerilla warfare against rude, inconsiderate jerks. I'm thinking of buying a cell phone jammer for the same reason. I think I'd enjoy flicking it on and off, at random intervals, in a crowded restaurant. Maybe not as satisfying as shoving the phone into a body orifice, but not as strenuous either.

So, we need to try harder?🙂 Actually that's surprising seeing how often we stray off the golden rule subject for views...namely "tickle torture". Perhaps there's hope for adult subject matter after all! I'd like to get more people posting (not that you guys aren't awesome) and get a few different perspectives on the previously discussed topics. Interesting "left handed" observation Strel, seeing as one of my lefty buddies is an acclaimed engineer and the other a math teacher. Perhaps you can apply that fine tool between your shoulders to finding some common link that we "ticklers/lees" share? I thought I was onto something with musical ability or lack thereof, but some of our finest members have talent in that area. It would be unscientific, but fun, to see if we could discover a trait that binds us to the fascination with tickling. Q

Qjakal started me thinking about a study in the left-handed tickler. I can just see the thesis now: Sinister/Dexter Tickling, the strengths, weaknesses, and differences. I wonder if there's something to this. I never bothered to check at my events. I'm quite ambidextrous, though I favor my right for penmanship, and my left for boxing. I wonder if there's any significance.

Nah, there's probably more signicance to the fact that this threads deviated so much. Clearly, once we established thoughts on religion, evil and guilt, we wandered far and wide. Good for us!

Wow! Weird coincidence! Althought mainly right handed, I also box lefty, which is a pain in the neck because no one ever wants to spar with you. I play many sports nearly equally well with either hand, and can at least perform most activities with both (not that guys...lol...gutter heads!). Having seen both dvnc and daddys photo, I'm scrapping any "hair" theories I might have been developing. Obviously, dvnc has seen a LOT of the brethren at gatherings and can probably be helpful in enumerating similarities, if any exist. Any thoughts, my left coasted friend? Q

Actually dvnc, I was looking for some similarities in TICKLERS/LEES, not righties and lefties, bud! Is there some "link" among all of the blessed brethren BESIDES our fascination with/love of tickling? Do we all eat sushi? Smoke dope? Have high or low I.Q.s? Are we all superior athletically, or perhaps inferior? You and I have already discussed music, at which you excel, and I suck...lol...but there's probably hundreds of POSSIBLE personality or behavioral traits to be explored yet! Obviously when I say "all", it means a great majority of the group, since statistically it would be impossible for this many people to all have a trait......for instance you and i both box left handed, and Strel is lefty, so another 40 or 50 people who chime in and say "Hey, me too!" and we have ourselves a link! This could be fun, and certainly promotes a different thought process regarding tickling, hmmm? Q

Q, perhaps we all have a certain gene in common. A gene which makes us all either ticklers or ticklees. A gene which is inactive in only a few persons, only they don't realize it. The activation of this gene, BTW, would be the only kind of genetic manipulation I'd approve of! Biotech researchers of the world, a whole new field is awaiting your research!

This IS starting t'seem like something that bears polling. I'm ambidextrous, but with greater bearing to my right hand for writing. I'm predominantly 'ler, though I'll submit to a tickling out of a sense of fairness, if someone finds it terribly important.

Maybe we ought t'go ahead and make a poll. I must admit I haven't played much with those, but this seems the sort of deal that asks for such.

What we really need is almost a survey, instead of a poll. Looking for common elements among groups.....probably have to be fairly massive # of questions to find any common traits though. Could be an interesting project for someone though, and actually become a separate "section" on the forum, where members and lurkers could post info gradually, until (and if) there's any significant similarities. Have to be anonymous of course, and fairly detailed....and well constructed. Obviously this would need to be discussed with Myriad and co. if we wanted a new spot added to the existing categories, and they'd have to like it......really wonder if there are traits that go with this fetish....hmmm. My opinion

I know everyones been waiting on me to reply so here it is. It does depend I guess on the content and if your selling it to the world. I think it is a sin for us to tie down a girl rip her clothes off and tickle her, even if they say we could... Tickling is fun, but we should set boundaries that we tell our selves not to cross. If we have enough will power we might be able to come through this sin free! Also I don't get turned on by girls big boinkers in the camera! The camera makes them tooo big and unatractive.

Tickling should also be enjoyed by anyone! SITUATION TIME! Like two girls are tickling each other and you go and join them- SIN FREE- and for us you tape it...

And for the next one- "Hey what that guy doing over their with that sock? OH MY GOD WHAT IS HE DOING TO IT!!!?" Ok -lol- I got carried away, but you need to do the boundary thing.

Fools...they think we lack the resolve or resources to track them and end their little charade of evil? This is an example of some of the things we've been discussing throughout the thread, folks. Terrorism has a multitude of purposes, (in their view) and the "evil" of it often depends on whose ox is gored. We have allowed the MidEast to be a hotbed of terrorist acts, mostly because we are NOT the type of nation to impose a solution through military means. This policy has now come full circle and bitten us in a few locations......and so we evolve and change our views, and react accordingly. We have never lacked the MEANS to destroy any nation or group that we decided deserved that fate, merely the national will to perform such acts. The fools who did this have sealed their own fate by providing the impetus that will rally and unite the majority of the citizens in this country. None will be able to effectively oppose the collective will of this majority, and the extremist bleatings that normally stay our hands will be whispers lost in the hurricane of resolve they have created. May whatever gods exist have mercy on any who stand in our way as we search...for America will have its measure of justice. I sincerely hope we can regain our moral center afterwards, and not abuse innocent minorities residing within the country during this period, as has historically been the case in other times of crisis. My sense of humor is nonexistent on this subject, and the mood across our country is foul....a hive of hornets awakened and angry, with a strange mixture of despair and deadliness in the comments of everyday people. We will never forget those who celebrated our disaster by dancing in the streets, and though we may be sated by the destruction of the offending parties, we shall have to hunt the rest down before this can be put to rest.
