Tower of Gargalesis (Tickling RPG M/F, F/F, F/M)

I am very excited about this.

Sorry I've fallen off the face of the Earth, real life is pretty much kicking my ass. Today's job market...I tell you what.

I'll try to find time to work on this more but...:cry it may be a while. You may have to settle for the novelization, which it vastly easier to work on right now (granted it would only go up to just before Chapter 4 but...)

Are you sure you dont need any help with this RPG? I can gladly take over some of it while you find work.

I'd like to say thanks to Retta for taking her time today to help me make this. It's been a long time since I've written and this was very rough until she applied her skills to it. She has been an inspiration to me in more ways than one.

This is for you, who worked so hard to bring us something so exquisite. Enough to inspire my imagination to venture into a world where tickling is bound to all things.

Have fun~! <3

PART 1

What a strange dream it was, yet so familiar....

Jen felt herself falling slowly, freely -- the wind brushed along her skin as she fell backward into emptiness. The traveling sensation that wrapped around her felt wonderful. Her eyes were closed, yet she could see the world around her fading, melting into colors like water trickling down a oil canvas marring its finish and bringing it into it's original state.

So much chaos and beauty.

She smiled blissfully in her sleep. She was carried through doorways upon doorways of unlimited possibilities. It was as if she had her hand held, feeling her destiny being forged among so many destinations. Her skin tingled, and her eyes began to flutter open. Jen sighed as a cool breeze of an open field slid over her skin. Her silky nightgown raised in the wind as tall grass poked at her skin.

"What the...? Where am I?" she called out, quickly rising to her feet. It was nightfall, but she didn't remember falling asleep outdoors. Was this truly a dream? It didn't make any sense -- all of this was too real for it to even be considered. The wind was cool to her touch, making her skin ripple in goosebumps. She tried to recall the last thing she did. Slowly, she remembered the music of an online RPG she played with her friends. She had played until she exhausted herself, and when she retired to bed after another failed session of gaming where her golden treasure had evaded her grasp, she had quickly fallen asleep.

She shook her head. Wherever her bed was, it was not here. It had to be a dream. She gave herself a sharp pinch on the cheek and yelped before rubbing her face. She pouted. Her nails were sharp and trim, and she had almost broken the skin. "If this isn't a dream, then where the hell am I?"

Jen started walking up a hill. Her bare feet squished the grass down, and the chill of the night air provoked goosebumps. It was just her luck to be out here wearing barely a thing. Her short black hair didn't do much to hide her neck, and if it wasn't for her gown, her pale, fair skin would be naked for all to see. Not that much was left to the imagination anyways. She had to find a way to get indoors, somehow.

This was ridiculous -- if someone had dragged her out here as some kind of a joke, there would be hell to pay.

She noticed some lights in the distance, coming from what appeared to be an old town. She had lived in a pretty big city, so a little town like that definitely did not belong anywhere near her home. "Whatever, might as well check it out. I need to stop play these damn games. Seriously, it's like..." she continued talking to herself as she walked down the hill. The wind was picking up, and she was flustered. She had to find answers soon, and that town was her only hope.

--

--

--

"You have got to be kidding me." she said to herself when she saw the town up close. It was ripped right from the pages of some medieval portrait or some fantasy book. So many old looking homes, and the firelight was something she definitely wasn't used to. It took her eyes no time to adjust, but she couldn't see anyone in the town. Were they all asleep? That couldn't be -- someone had to light all the torches, after all.

"Hello~!" she cried out, looking around her for any possible sign of life. There was a clinking of metal behind her. Her skin crawled. She felt the presence of someone behind her, but by the time she turned around, her arms were already pinned to her back. "Gyah~!"

"Got you, outsider!" a feminine voice declared triumphantly. The guard was strong, too strong. She grappled Jen with such strength that she was lifted off her feet from just the embrace. Her arms were crossed completely behind her with her wrists touching her upper back in the painful lock.

"Ah! Stop it! That hurts!"

"I'm sure it does, but you don't have to worry about that. We won't be hurting you for long," the guard said as a the metal clinking of armor surrounded Jen. There had to have been dozens of them; all clad in a thin metal press that covered their feminine forms. A particularly tall one emerged from the group, unsheathing what looked to be a weapon of some sort. It could have been a sword, but all Jen saw were bristles.

The tall woman approached Jen, looking her over. "An outsider, now of all times? You must be a spy for the Mamono," the woman said as she removed her helmet, revealing long bright red hair that flowed with the wind like fire itself. Jen's jaw dropped, and her breath was taken away. She hadn't expected such an exotic look. She had never seen anyone like her back home.

"Wh-what? You're making a mistake! I don't even know what a Mamono is! Seriously, just... can someone please explain to me what's going on?"

"Our laws our clear, take the outsider to her cell and stretch her out. She will laugh until she expires."

Jen blinked. Stretched? Laugh? Expire!? "Whoa! Hey, wait a minute! You can't do tha--HEY! Let me go!" she yelled as another guard grabbed her by the legs. She tried to kick her feet, but the women wouldn't let a single muscle move. How the hell did this happen? None of this made sense! If it was a joke, she had honestly grown sick of it by this point.

"Captain," a young guard said to the fiery redhead, "she breached our security completely undetected. For some reason, no one saw her at all."

"Yes, I know,” the captain said. "Keep a close vigil. She must be receiving assistance from someone, but we'll find out who that is." The captain cast a glance at Jen, forcing a shiver to run up and down her spine.

"Could she be working with them? The Mamono? Perhaps they are already in to-"

The captain had looked at the young guard with stern eyes. The young woman tensed, showing a tinge of apprehension.

"Do not fear me. Fear the Mamono if they enter this village. Open your ears and eyes and report to me."

Jen still had no idea what a Mamono could be, but if the scary captain was convincing her subordinates that they were scarier, they must be something. Jen pouted and tried to give another kick to break free, but the guards holding her didn't even budge. They seemed more interested in the captain's words than dealing her punishment out right now. Though, the guard holding her legs did seem to enjoy scraping her gauntlet down the sole of her foot.

"Yes captain,” the young guard said, turning to everyone and nodding. The guards dispearsed as the ones holding onto Jen started to walk.

“Hey, come on, I really didn't do anything,” Jen said. None of the guards even pretended to listen. She looked to the captain, who seemed preoccupied. She gazed off into the horizon, obviously lost in thought. She looked over at Jen, grinning. Jen knew that she wasn't likely going to get anymore sleep tonight.

One of the guards hoisted Jen up by her arms as they arrived at her cell. Jen's heart sank when she saw a torture device before her. It was like a large raised bed with shackles bound to medieval wheels. She shook her head, instantly recognizing the device as a rack from all the games she had played.

She had other plans than to just quietly accept her fate.

Her legs flailed at her aggressors, trying to kick them off. She was only successful in upsetting them and making them redouble their efforts to subdue her. It was a pathetic attempt anyways – she had to have been at least a foot shorter than either of them and far frailer. This wasn't fair at all, had she had some shoes, or some better clothing....

Not that it mattered. The guards ripped her clothes off as she pleaded. "Hey~ Heey! That's my--" she winced as they pulled her nightgown up and exposed her panties. She flushed and squealed, but that didn't stop them from pulling her nightgown off. She turned a brighter red, cursing herself for picking tonight of all nights to not wear a bra to sleep. They shackled her wrists down despite her expression.

The guards weren't smiling, not a single word came from their lips as they affixed her ankles and wrists into their proper cuffs. Turning the wheels at the head of the wood slab to stretch her as tight as her limbs allowed. Jen flinched, feeling the tension. She had never been this vulnerable in her life. Her perky breasts exposed to the air, and the only remaining scrap of clothing she had were her panties.

What kind of sick game was this? Why weren't they talking to her? What was going on here?! "Someone tell me what the hell is going on PLEASE!? I want out of here! Now!"

"You're in no position to be making demands," a woman said, walking into the room with two others wearing rather formal, black attire. They were obviously supervisors in the village or at least members of some importance.

"Listen, seriously, you've made some sort of mistake. I'm not even from this village," Jen said.

"We know," the woman said. Her silver hair was done in buns over her ears that held the thin frames of regal glasses. The dark pools of her eyes beneath the crystal lens looked down at Jen with a certain air of disgust as if Jen had fouled her evening in the worst of ways. Jen swallowed and clenched her jaw in frustration and defiance.

"Look, if you let me go I'll leave and never come back okay?" Jen tensed, seeing one of the girls position herself above her head at the end of the table out of her sight. The woman at her feet looked upon her with judging eyes. Jen stammered, wanting to say something, but was interrupted before she even began.

"No more talk," the silver haired woman said, lifting her wrist and snapping her fingers. The guards brought their fingers toward Jen's body. Finger tips lightly tracing down her wrists, others at her knees sliding down her calve. Their nails were pointed, sharp, and immediately made Jen shiver. Her first instinct was to move her limbs to get away, but she was stretched too tightly to move an inch. Her body was rigid, like she was some kind of mannequin. Goosebumps formed, and sweat coated her as anxiety began to peak.

"Why are yo~ hehehey~" she smiled then, feeling the finger tips get closer toward her elbows. Brushing lightly at the wells at the middle of her arms with no clear pattern. She forced her smile back down to a look of frustration as she growled. What were they doing to her~!? "Come on! Hey, stop touching me like that!"

Her expression went back into conflict when her ankles were now being brushed by a single, solitary finger on each foot. It scanned the side of her foot, from the heel to the outside of the balls of each. Repeating the same motion over and over, the woman looking at Jen for the telltale defeat of her stolid expression. Her motions were rewarded now, with a sustained smile Jen could barely resist.

"You're tickling me...!"

"We know," the silver haired woman said, lifting into her hand a small cloth sack and undoing a simple cord that held it closed.

Fingers slipped to her underarms, and Jen sputtered into a light giggle.

"No no~! Seriously! Heehee~ This tickles!" Jen tried to fight back the giggling, but they only rolled out of her mouth louder. She jammed her eyes shut, trying to fight back the giggling as best she could.

"Of course..." the woman above her said softly, her skittering fingernails now at her underarms. Her eyes watched Jen's pained expression change from the looks of a painful smile to a wider, teeth bearing grin.

"Stohahap...uuurrgh~!" Jen screamed in frustration. Forcing her smile away, she turned her head from side to side. Could they really be tickling her? She hadn't been tickled in so long. None of her friends had dared. None were ever so intimate as to ever attempt to touch her like this. She couldn't let these girls just take advantage of her like this! She didn't belong here! "Stooooohahahap iiiit!"

"We have a rule here outsider..." the silver haired one said, revealing the open bag to Jen. Her long silver painted nails entered the bag and pulled a pinch of glowing pink powder. "In this land, all things are ticklish." She sprinkled the powder on Jen, and within seconds, Jen could feel every little particle. Every single bit of the powder came alive as it spread across her body in a thin layer, giving her a strange pink glow.

"Wh~ what is tha...a...ahahahahHAHAHAHA!!!" Jen screamed, and even in her stretched our state she managed to lift her hips up an inch off the slab just to have her fall right back down in absolute sheer laughter. Her heart raced at incredible speeds as the powder worked its way into her system. Her mind echoed every soft stroke of the women's skilled fingers, pushing the very meaning of the word "tickle" to the forefront of her mind.

"AHahahahah~ It ticklesssssaaahahahAa! Pleaehehehehe stahahahaap!" she cried out, tears running down her cheeks. Her body flopped on the slab weakly. Feeling her chest rise and fall as she laughed with wild abandon, Jen couldn't contain it by any means. The tickling at her underarms was like a series of shocks running directly into her body. Her laughter reflected the strokes at her pits, the light pinching of her underarm by skilled thumbs and forefingers that knew how to mix their small touches with the deeper prodding of her muscles.

Her eyes had opened wide, looking up at the woman who tortured her underarms. She sought pity from them, but tears blurred her vision as she howled in hysterical laughter. She knew very well that no pity would come from them. The woman barely had a smile to her face, and she matched Jen's stare with no remorse.

"Pleehehehehhehhesse stooohahahap! I caaahana't take iiiiit!"

"Of course you can't – that's precisely the point.” The silver haired woman shook her head. “We haven't even begun outsider. You must understand, we are not torturing you." She dropped another sprinkle of the pink powder over Jen's feet. Jen's torment at her underarms was so grave she had barely felt the feather light touches at her feet until then. Now Jen had never known such blistering torment. "This is us saying goodbye."

She screamed. She screamed for so long that she lost her breath and could barely inhale as she convulsed in sheer hysteria. Her eyes opened as she panicked, unable to breath in air momentarily from her shuddering bod, frozen in a desperate wide opened smile. She gasped, and finally the air flooded into her lungs, even though the sensations at her feet as her soles were furiously scraped and kneaded knew no true pause. She laughed, the choice not to had long since been removed.

"HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! HAAAAHAA~~~~~!!!"

"We intend to tickle you forever Jen. It has yet to be the first hour of your torment, and we will continue to do this in shifts until your tickle essence has been drained and there is little left of you. We do hope your stay in the Village of Gargalesis has been a pleasant one."The silverhaired woman sneered at Jen, sprinkling the remainder of the bag on Jen's bare chest and ribs. It lifted with a light mist, and Jen was forced to even inhale a small amount.

"Do try to make this last," she said with a certain finality as she began to knead the girl's ribs, rolling her finger tips across her ribcage and below her breasts with a steadying mix of deep muscle tickling and light brushes.

Jen screamed, laughed and cried. They were true tears now. She had never felt so much panic and torment in her life. Why did this have to happen to her? At this rate they were going to kill her. She was on the verge of blacking out! If she did, would they wake her and continue this torment? She could barely think, barely breath! The very idea of getting out of this situation seemed impossible.

"Tickle, tickle, tickle~" they chanted. The pink glow over her body intensified as the teasing chant grew louder. Jen was at silent giggling now. She was helpless to resist as she was tickled, her ribs kneaded, her underarms tweaked. Fingernails occasionally explored her diamond hard nipples nipples. Even her feet and thighs had every inch explored, and occasionally she felt nails reach closer and closer to her panty line. Her pussy quivered, the reactions from the tickling were making her wet, but it was the least of her concerns. Even as she soaked herself she couldn't possibly care about any sense of embarrassment. All she could think of was the tickling.

"Tickle, tickle, tickle...."

Jen tried to speak, yet all that came out were random syllables and further sobbing among an endless torrent of laughter -- much of which was silent. She was unable to put a steady stream of laughter together as she struggled to maintain her breath and sanity. She rocked her hips in sequence with the tickling. Her tongue lolled edge of her lips as her tears and sobs began intermingling with her insane howling. Her pussy spasmed and squirted.

How many hours had it been? Had it even been one yet? Did it matter? Time didn't seem very important here at all, and she could barely contain it. Her body had buzzed and shivered in constant ticklish hysteria that she could no longer control her reactions. Her insane expression of glee~ her soaked panties literally forming a pool between her thighs~

Everything seemed to have slowed down She lost track of how many times she had blacked out just to be woken up. Constant laughter. Constant torture. Constant "Tickle, tickle....tickles~"

“Wake up...!”

Jen sighed as the world spun around her. Was she dead? It sounded like someone was calling to her from the other end of a long tunnel. What a sweet voice to be greeting her. Maybe she was dreaming this entire time. She would wake up to tears and a smile, and she would just swear to herself to stop having chocolate and energy drinks before bed.

“You have to wake up! You have to… please! Outsider!”

Jen’s eyes opened. That word. That word again. An outsider!? She was still here, tied to the same rack. Her muscles ached, but her chest ached more. She could barely move her head enough to see who had waken her. Gentle eyes of a little girl looked back at her.

“Wha…who are you!?”

The little girl shook her head. “My name is Tina~! You can’t stay here, you can’t! The Mamono…”

That word again.

“Mamono?”

Her little hands grasped at Jen’s shackles but could not open them. “Please, we must leave. We can’t stay here~! She’ll find you!”

Jen realized that the little girl was trying to help her escape. She wasn’t dead! She could get out of here!

“Find a key! There has to be one somewhere!” Jen said, looking around as much as her neck would allow. Tina combed through the room but could not find anything. Tina looked at the shackles again and gasped.

“Oh no! These shackles, they have no keyhole! I don’t think they were meant to be opened once someone closes them!”

Jen despaired. If she didn’t get out of here, those women were bound to come back down and torture her again. No doubt they would most likely punish this little girl too. She didn’t know which would be worse to endure, her own torment or having to witness the same being done to Tina right before her eyes.

Tina looked Jen over, scanning her barely clad body when her eyes settled on something of interest by Tina’s legs. “What is this…?” she blinked, reaching down toward Jen’s panties and making her wince. What was this little kid doing!?

Tina grasped at something that jingled when she picked it up. She lifted it up to Jen who could see it was an amber pendant. A small, tiny crystal in the shape of wings dangled from the links.

“A pendant...?”

Tina winced, seeing a trickle of juice fall from the crystal.

“Oh gosh is that my…ew~” Jen frowned.

“It came from you I think,” Tina said, looking down at Jen’s embarrassed expression. Jen blushed – since when was she squirting out jewelry? Things couldn’t possibly get any sillier in this place. Why did this have to happen to her of all people? She realized then that this was like something from some cliché RPG or movie. She shouldn't have skipped the tutorial.

“I really don't think Alice had to put up with this kind of crap in Wonderland.”

Tina blinked. “Who is Alice?”

Jen shook her head. “Nobody. So what is that crystal? You ever seen such a thing”

Tina glanced at the crystal, its warm orange glow glinting from the torchlight. “Not sure! It seems like~…ah!” she said exitedly. The crystal began to vibrate in Tina's hands, and with that vibration Jen’s entire body began to glow a similar orange hue as the crystal itself. Jen squinted her eyes, feeling a sensation build at her loins. It was arousing! But she was a bit embarrassed to express it in front of Tina. Her face flushed darker as vibrations spread inside her, filling her, climbing up within her folds and forcing her to gasp for air.

Within seconds, Tina felt the shackles at her arms and legs shatter. Her eyes opened as she exhaled and felt her body rise inches off the slab. She smiled. The little girl looked at her with astonishment.

“Wooow…” Tina said. The amber crystal suddenly flew out of Tina's tiny hands. It floated in the air over Jen's sex. The crystal cast a powerful glow, filling the room with its amber light. There was peace in Jen's eyes. The warmth on her body was so intense even Tina could feel it radiating from her. The little girl watched as Jen rose higher into the air. The jewel above Jen's pelvis began to pulse brighter and brighter. It had becme almost impossible to look at. "Beautiful...."

Jen turned her head toward Tina, a grin on her face. “I know right? It’s cool.” She sighed. She felt like someone else completely, like someone familiar, yet she couldn’t place the memory. “Coolest thing ever.” Jen said with a softer sigh. The pendant burst with a sudden flash of light, vanishing from view. Jen shivered delightfully. Her hands reached between her legs as she felt herself falling again.

Tina stood back, seeing the woman fall back upon the slab, the soft glow fading from her. The light in the room returning to normal.

What had just happened? Jen didn't recognize the feeling, but it was all too familiar to be anxious about. She felt like she had just come back from a long trip.

“W…what’s your name?” Tina said, clutching the hem of her skirt nervously. "Wh...who are you?"

The woman sat up, looking down at the little girl. Tina was too cute not to smile at. For the first time she arrived here, she felt an air of confidence and strength. Though this world was still strange to her, as were its customs, she felt like she had always known of it somehow. It was like she was returning to an old dream. “Jen~ …” she said, leaping onto the cold floor.

“My name is Jen. I'm an outsider.”

Are you sure you dont need any help with this RPG? I can gladly take over some of it while you find work.

Right, there's no reason why you should work on the game alone. Posting the source code or setting up some project so a team could contribute and help you with the game would be great.

Need some help

Hello congrats for the game. I love it.

I am totally stuck and I was wondering if this is a bug.

I am at the 4 medallion challenge. On my quest log it says.

> Complete the four challenges. 0 Complete

When I got to the 2nd floor and i touch the shrine nothing happens. I have 4 medallion in my inventory though. Not sure what's going on.

I also have a problem with the side-quest "wheres the cuckoo egg". On my log it says. > Give the tickle fairy the tiara.

There was a tickle fairy on the left side in the forest which if you let her go she heals you every time you ask. I chose not to though and she disappeared. So I was wondering if that's the fairy the quest is talking about. If yes.. is that a bug?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the challenge you go back to the shrine where you first encountered Lady Venus, not the second floor of the tower.

I think that's kind of a morality choice for the fairy, if you let her get dusted... well then it's your own fault.

Ah thank you very much for the reply!

As for the fairy. I checked both rewards. I had to choose between healing and an extra scene. I found healing pretty useless so I just decided to choose the extra scene. Well that kinda sucks but oh well.

Could you also tell me what's the reward of the cuckoo quest? As a gamer I always like to feel that I have complete the game 100% and I can't stand feeling that a quest is blocked for some reason. So maybe if I know the reward of the quest or what it unlocks it will kinda relieve me.

Thank you again!

That was actually a big help. <3

I was a bit stuck myself. ^__^

Sorry for posting the story here~ thought it'd be the right place to do it. Not sure if it'll continue~ but it's something.

Hey I just reached floor 3, then i read here that it's not completed yet. So i guess i reached the 'end'. Very nice game i enjoyed it.

I was wondering
1) if there is any way to unlock the scenes on honey bee now

2) If there are any dialogs that change (a lot) when you play the game with a different character. I am asking because I am tempted to play again with another char.

As for what you get from the quest I just think it's experiance and coins, I really can't remember.

As far as I know the scenes with Bee are not yet unlockable

I'm doing a second playthrough now as a female and different class but it seems the only major dialoge differences are in your choices for boss type enemies.

That's nothing to apologize for! It's a great story, thanks for posting it. 🙂

^.^;; ty~ ...as long as DeusEx enjoys it I'm happy. I don't think it's as good as it could have been. I wanted it a bit longer but, testing the waters... *hugs*

Joining this place solely because of this game? The Tower of Gargalesis must be something huge, no? Well as a game it certainly has filled me with a fair share of emotions. Procella has manufactured a diamond here, or at least he would have had he finished the game, but considering reality sets in, right now he has diamond shards.

I would like to have nothing but good words for this game, but unfortunately that isn't possible due to the game's status - incomplete, beta, somewhat buggy. I've encountered my fair share of bugs including some things that I'm not sure are bugs or what, but I have had issues with this game on a level of it as a piece of technology. As a piece of art this game has quite surprised me, and many others I would say. If a game can instill emotion into me then I count it as something good and unique, and this game is certainly that.

I'll send a PM to Procella as well, but I'll also state here that I'd like to assist in any way I can for this game. I'd like to see it completed but having skimmed through a bit, I know that of course Procella can't simply spend hours upon days upon weeks on this game, so it won't see completion anytime soon, but I would like to help. Let's see where this goes.

You are entitled to your own opinion of course, but that sentence doesn't make sense to me. You're basically saying that Deus letting us all Beta-test this is a bad thing. Bugs is what we're here for, and why we're playing this. You could always wait for the finished version, after all.

I personally don't think that people helping Deus is necessarily a good thing. The quality of Deus's work is extremly high, so if anything he should hand-pick one, or two people to help him. It'd keep the quality high, and you wouldn't have 10 different styles in the final release.

Having said that, I don't think Deus even wants too much help. It's his baby, and I can understand that. The man's had it all planned out from the start, after all.

Then again that last paragraph is just speculation, or the feeling I get from following this thread. 😉

What's a hug? I don't do emo stuff like that. 😉 I'm pretty positive he will. Actually, I'd bet ...my computer on it! And that's worth alot to me. T.T

Not sure if it'll continue~ but it's something.

Well it better!

“My name is Jen. I'm an outsider.” <- Epic Line right there. Can't quit now.

Out of memory, don't you get some kinda weapon for it? One really interested in this could browse through this thread, the answer is in there somewhere. A used Paintbrush, I think?

You are correct

As of right now there is a class specific scene when you play the Bar game thing. And a gender/class specific scene on the final fight of the Snow maiden quest.

Somehow, somewhere, I knew posting would be a bad thing. My intentions are never quite grasped by the people I post around. I know I have shit for social skills but sometimes it gets a bit ridiculous just how I am misunderstood. It seems it happens no matter where I go. I am thankful that I can elaborate.

In any case, let me clarify: I want to say that this game is quite a delicious treat for us, however it's more like a game fragment despite that what's been done so far offers for a number of hours of gameplay, and 6 different "main" styles of gameplay that could add some level of replay value. I did run into something that angered me, apparently a game-breaking bug (doing all the chapter 3 side quests before doing the 4 trials with the medallions wouldn't allow me to fuse the Charity Core Shards into the Charity Core Crystal for some reason - I had to start over and have now done everything I can up to this point except for challenging and beating Mimic), which is why I say that I can't give nothing but greatness to the game. Once it's complete it could be a masterpiece even outside the tickling community (though it probably won't travel outside us), and while incomplete it is great, it is hurt by the potential for something to go wrong with someone's save and put them off, though I liked the game enough that restarting wasn't a problem. I still enjoyed it the second time through.

I didn't intend to imply anything about his decision to have others beta test the game for him. The way I read your response to what you quoted up there, it seems like you're making an indication that when I mention the game's bugs, I am putting it down in some way or putting down the work that the beta testers have done because perhaps "they didn't do a good enough job," which is definitely not anything close to what I'm trying to say. Not every playthrough is going to be the same, of course, and different people will encounter different bugs. Some have spoken up here, some others may not, which means not all bugs are dealt with in updated releases. Obviously it's impossible to anticipate each bug and stop it, but having people beta the game is not a bad thing and, above all, the work that testers have done so far is quite good considering they're not obligated in any way. They choose to help out, it's not something that needs to be done. More than likely they do it because they want to see the game completed and with the least amount of bugs possible. It just happens that so far, not all of the bugs so far have been dealt with, or so it appears, which is why I've offered my help to be an extra playthrough or a few to find more bugs that others may not wind running into because we all play in different ways, in different orders, et cetera. In fact, since I've offered my assistance to him, I say it's a good thing he has people beta testing because only one or two person's opinion (creator included) on how a game should be played and their experience in a run can wind up being skewed from how other people see it and wind up having them not encounter the same bugs that other people would.

As for it being his "baby," I understand. When I do something I'm reluctant to have other people give me suggestions, as, not to sound like an ass, but I like to do things my way when I have an idea I come up with on my own. With something like a game of this magnitude and complicated...ness (...complicity?) I don't think that's a very practical idea, since beta testing a single game by yourself can not only be tedious, but there's no guarantee you'll find all the big bugs (and adjust the difficulty, et cetera, as mentioned above), and that can seriously screw up a save file and make it unplayable to numerous people and other such things, put them off, etc. So, that Procella has the mind to know that he can't beta the game himself, since he's apparently accepted assistance in the past, is definitely a smart move by him IMO. However, unless some of us are going to get very inclined and start making suggestions to the story or anything bigger than, "Hey, this event flag won't trigger (or something like that), my file is unplayable now, I can't progress and am stuck; let's figure out why so others don't have this problem," I don't think it's too much of a worry on Procella's part to accept or look for help. If I'm going to help him, I for one am not going to start giving him suggestions as to what he should and shouldn't do with plot or anything huge that he already has planned. I won't try to mosey on into his work, the creation, the concept, the development, it will still be all him. I'll just be on the lookout for glitches and difficulty spikes that seem awkward, if that. This is kind of speculation on my part too, I don't know exactly what I'd be doing; if I'm even chosen to help, I'll leave it to Procella to figure out what he wants of me.

I can't agree nor disagree with the concept of him having a large or small number of beta testers. I suppose there are advantages to both, and they both have their disadvantages I'm sure. Either way, yes, the work Procella's shown on this game is of some very high quality, especially coming from someone who has mentioned having a life (and classes, I think?). Being able to produce something this good in some (I'll assume that like a normal person, Procella has any number of activities to keep him occupied) of his free time is quite incredible. I don't think I could be the sole worker on something of this magnitude and not eventually give up.

tl;dr The story and gameplay are great, any bugs it may have, ahem, bug me (even typoes sort of do as well, and though those aren't proper bugs or glitches, cleaning those up is in my mind a very simple process that could make the game look even better) and I'd like to help in getting rid of them so that as the game's development progresses, it can be the best piece of work that it can be and we won't have people mentioning in the thread or PMing him about being glitched to hell and now they can't physically proceed. There're good and bad things to any method of testing the game, but Procella will deal with that and choose the method he thinks will best suit the game. Regardless, we'll all enjoy whatever he includes in his next update and surely enjoy it when he eventually completes it. If the end is anything like even the beginning, especially what information of the plot is available to us now, it will be something glorious.

Pardon the above wall. I hope that clears up any misconceptions and sort of offered some more insight as to my own thoughts in general.

Posting is never a bad thing! And we're both socially able enough to communicate, I think. xD

It definetly sucks to run into game-breaking bugs like that, I can relate. Happened to me before, too! The mimic doesn't have any Game-Over scene or -anything- to it yet, so I'd advise against grinding to beat it.

I don't think its a bad thing that you ran into this bug though, just like I think it was good that I ran into mine with an earlier version. I mean, of course it sucks for you as a player, but -anyone- posting in this thread is a beta tester, as this is a beta thread after all. So if we can find bugs like that, it's great. 🙂

I do agree with you, it's a shame that this game probably won't make it outside of the community, it is a great RPG even without the added fun of tickling!

Once again, I think it's good that you ran into this bug. You're a beta tester, just like me and anyone else here, so it's better if we catch those bugs now, instead of them being in the complete version too!

I didn't intend to imply anything about his decision to have others beta test the game for him. I think this is where we misunderstood each other (the most?) XD.

Mentioning bugs here is -never- a bad thing because, like I said, we're all beta testers here!

So Deus has about...I'd say, 10-20 beta testers who follow this thread regulary? The more the merrier, so any bugs you can find, the more playthroughs you do, the better. In my book, at least.

It seems to me that you see this thread as a thread for the complete game, when in fact the whole purpose of this thread is to beta test? Unless I'm misunderstanding you again, which is definetly possible. 😀

As for it being his "baby," I understand. When I do something I'm reluctant to have other people give me suggestions, as, not to sound like an ass, but I like to do things my way. With something like a game of this magnitude and complicated...ness (...complicity?) So, that Procella has the mind to know that he can't beta the game himself, since he's apparently accepted assistance in the past, is definitely a smart move by him IMO.

The assistance that Deus accepted earlier was just some small, random stuff. ^^ That had nothing to do with beta-testing.

However, unless some of us are going to get very inclined and start making suggestions to the story or anything bigger than, "Hey, this event flag won't trigger (or something like that), my file is unplayable now, I can't progress and am stuck; let's figure out why so others don't have this problem," I don't think it's too much of a worry on Procella's part. The more I read, the more I think that the biggest misunderstanding was that beta-testers are getting hand-picked or anything. You -are- allready a beta tester just by playing this and posting here. 🙂 You're allready helping!

Yes, we can agree on that. 😀

Edit wants me to clarify that when I was talking about Deus accepting help in my earlier post, I was talking about writing parts of the game, doing part of the programming, and stuff like that. 🙂

Edit -ALSO- wants me to say welcome to the forum, spiral. How rude of me. xD

Ooh thank God I have less to (directly) respond to this time. I don't feel like writing a novel like my last post 😛 And now I'm actually surprised that when you quote a post, it takes out anything that was previously quited. Haven't seen that before.

The mimic doesn't have any Game-Over scene or -anything- to it yet, so I'd advise against grinding to beat it.

Aye, I read that part 'round in the thread. I wouldn't grind anyhow. Waste of time IMO.

No, I know that mentioning bugs here isn't a bad thing. I'm not saying that. I agree, it's a good thing since if Procella is perusing the thread then he can figure out what may have caused the bug and fix it. I also know that this thread isn't for the complete game. Obviously it's not complete yet so the notion of it having a thead for it in its completeness would be silly.

Edit -ALSO- wants me to say welcome to the forum, spiral. How rude of me. xD

Thank you, sir 😀

The characters, plot, scenery, culture, the very essence of the game world, we should definitely leave up to the creator. Or, he can use some writer assistance to make the story and dialogues more "unique". Up to him.

Now, the development of the game-play, programming, fixing bugs, general design, etc, DeusEx definitely needs some help on 😀

I disagree. Accepting help on those issues (programming, game-play) will definitely improve the game and boost its progress.

I am saying put a team together, with DeusEx leading it. It's not like a bunch of freelancers will scramble the code and ruin everything. He can easily accept or deny any changes made to the game. This is how OSS works.

Some artists could also help out with the game too in case of game over tickling scenes and whatnot. Or even making new character/monster designs.

i did a run thru and did the chapter 3 quests before doing the challenges
and they all worked and fused together just fine.
i'm not doubting what happened to you, but i'm wondering if there was a different trigger to your situation. what i did was:

1 journey to the 2nd floor (1st time)
2 mystery of the snow maiden
3 ants
4 slime
5 feather bugs
6 talked to honey bee to find out about the challenges
7 4 challenges
8 walk in front of the shrine to fuse
9 return to honeybee

did you go to the second floor for the 1st time after doing the challenges?

Man this game rocks, I already liked the first two chapters but when suddenly my favorite Phoenix Wright music Pursuit Cornered (even if it's just a variant) started playing, I knew it couldn't get any better 🙂
(but maybe you'll prove me wrong with the next chapters 😉)

Trying to recall off of memory... I know after I beat Beelzebebe, I went back and talked to Honey Bee. Then I went to the village to chill a sec and then went to the second floor for the first time and did all that. Once I escaped I went to Honey Bee, but actually after I talked to her, I didn't play for a few weeks (other things to do).

When I began playing again I explored around (I had forgotten what Honey Bee said, which only played one time when you talk to her after the second floor escape), did The Mysterious Snow Maiden quest (though couldn't trigger the beginning of the Lover of the Snow Maiden quest; when talking to her with the Vow of Eternity it only gave me the same 2 lines of dialogue and didn't begin the quest; I think I was in the previous update but I can't remember). Then I talked to a friend who has played and he told me to do the sidequests available, A Sticky Situation and Heard It Through the Grapevine. After that I did the 4 Medallion Quests, but once I had them and tried to step in front of the Shrine of Gargalesis or interact with it, the Shrine wouldn't fuse the Charity Core Shards into the crystal.

On my second run through with the most updated version I didn't try to replicate it 'cuz I was annoyed and didn't want to spend half an hour possibly getting myself stuck again by doing all the sidequests. If it was a previous update and it was a bug it's entirely possible it was fixed anyhow.

I'll probably be getting my files transferred tomorrow so I can start debugging. If it happens again, PM me exactly (or as close as you can approximate) what you did for each challenge and the order you did them in.

I'll check it out and find out what went wrong.

Edit: In light of changes in my life, and repeated comments in this thread, I'm going to be putting together a core group of people to help me out with this. You'll know who you are if you receive an overly fancy PM from me, detailing the positions I'm looking for and what not.

The control freak in me wants to keep this solely my own thing, but given how overloaded I am on projects AND real life issues, it's just become an impossibility at this point.

That said, if I PM you, expect me to be picky and particular about things, it's just how I am. All help will be appreciated, credited and welcomed, but at the end of the day I want to keep this project true to my vision (the scope of which has only been briefly touched on as of the latest update).

I was contemplating beginning a new run in as a different class so I'll probably check it out. Should I, I'll try to remember everything I did exactly and replicate it.

Right on~ glad to see some progress is being made. ^.^ If you need any help at all with the writing, please feel free to let me know. Good luck guys.

You're doing the right thing here Procella. A team will definately help with this game while you get on with RL work. Are you going to split jobs to different members then such as mapping, writing and database?

Definitely will be splitting the work up. The only thing I won't budge on is the story, that is 100% on me.

Mamono designers will help come up with Mamono names/abilities/stats/etc for the various Mamono still to be introduced. I'll be getting together with these people, sending them files, and laying out on the table my ideas and asking for their input. I'd appreciate it if you can come up with unique information about the Mamono you'd like to work on, as well as interesting battle mechanics (within the confines of the system). If you PM me about this one, we can discuss it in greater detail.

Map Designers will mostly handle side-quests and areas outside of the tower. The reason being, I'm using this game to practice and improve my mapping skills, so I refuse to delegate away all of that work. Mapping designers will be required to experiment. Come up with puzzles, challenges, just try new things with the mapping engine. (Or, at the very least, be able to draw up [poorly or otherwise] a rough map sketch that I can go off, along with environmental explanations, puzzle information, etc).

Side Quest designers will probably have the hardest job, relating again to my being a picky bitch. That said, I'll work with you within the constraints of my abilities with this software and the abilities of the software itself. It is especially important for Side Quest developers to be able to think outside the box and work within the established world canon.

Then there will also be a designated group of beta testers, who, essentially, are required to break the game in every way they can. You'll need exceptional explanation skills for this job, since it takes every bit of explanation to help me find the problem and fix it without creating a new problem. Patience is a must. I'll be creating a new play mode to help beta testers, but I'd also appreciate people who go through the normal way to ensure difficulty control.

Now, all things considered, I'd like to make this more of a community project. The story will be mine, but all the work involved will be a community effort so far as those who are interested are concerned. Credit will be given, names will scroll by in the end, and so on and so forth.

Lastly, I'll be contacting some of you personally. However, that won't be immediately (I have a job interview tomorrow). So, if you are interested in any of these positions, PM me. If you're interested in a side-quest designing position, try to come up with a unique side quest opportunity to pitch, it'll help me out in deciding.

None of this information is to be discussed in this thread. Not the work we do (unless relevant) and certainly no story related information. Side Quest developers will be ESPECIALLY in the loop so far as spoilers go, and I'd like to keep giant revelations to a minimum.

In Closing

Too much, I know. And it's all VASTLY too serious business, but that's just how I am with what is essentially a writing project. I take it too seriously, so I apologize. But it has to be said:

I am very serious about this project. This is for fun, yes, but it is also a serious commitment to me, so anyone who wants to help needs to be able to work both with me and the other members of the team. There will be a lot of discussion and communication is an absolute must. Who knows, maybe everyone will meet new people through this.

If you want to talk to me about doing one (and just one please) of the roles mentioned above, PM me with something relevant in the subject (Interested in Mamono Design/Side Quest Development/Etc), my PM box is a bit full and it's hard shifting through stuff with irrelevant subject-lines.

A word of caution though. If you don't get picked to be on the team, or you're on the team but I'm not all over one of your ideas, I'm sorry, that's just the way it rolls. I'd like to keep the amount of butt hurt related to opening this up as a community project to a minimum. If bitching and bawwing starts up, I will pull the plug, and go back to doing this completely by myself (which is punishing me more than it would any offenders. But it would just alleviate any issues that may arise).

Sorry for the long post, please don't post here asking about the positions. Let's keep this thread for beta-updates.
