[VX Ace] The Laughing Isles

Woo! More game! The one thing that has roused me from slumber to actually post on here! Although shame on you AW, for making me have to redo the whole first chapter. Eh, actually that's not so bad. I'll try out some new classes. I'll give more substantive praises once I get around to the new stuff. But…

ON THE FROG:

Guys, you can only get the frog battle at the first area. If you leave it to go to town, it's already too late. Which means the Frog battle must take place at lvl 1, in a simple back and forth of attacks. The downside is, it seems to me like the warrior is the only class able to actually beat the frog. I've tried Ranger, Paladin, and Cleric, and none seem to be able to do it. Anyone able to fact check this with me? Which classes can actually beat the Frog at the first step? Is there any ability or potion I'm missing out on? Since it takes place so early, I should think that any class would be able to beat the frog by spamming attack. If not, there's no way for them to beat it, and that class is just denied the secret battle. That would make me sad.

I nailed that froggy on a mage! Was 100% rng based tho. If she used poke and prod more than twice, I was dead. So I had to try a few times to get the needed rng rotation from her attacks. It's all about commitment 😛

And lol, I discovered the second Zombie scene... guess I'm the only person who got the scene without the battle first 😀 and there I wondered why the Figmet is so cruel without any real reason xD

Son.. We need to have a little.. Talk.. Because I spent 4 hours looking for that scene! And got nothin'! If you would be so kind as to tell me in a PM where I could find it.. I would give you all my golden eggs! And a hat!

Everything seems great! I did eventually beat the frog girl on ranger, but it took a lot of luck like with the mage.
I think the spidergirl might be bugged too. You jump out of the way then it freezes
The powder bucket also doesn't seem to work right now. Don't see it in my inventory, and can't find any creatures that drop it.

Bam, played this version through! (am I the first? I think I'm the first. Oh boy, I'm the first! Do you also hate these "first!" people? I do! And I'm first, so my opinion is the only thing that counts!)

Some notes:
- I managed to enter the House of Shrieks, which isn't supposed to happen I guess
- the Laughing Lollies don't seem to be that strong. I tested them against these Scepters and against the Necrogirl in the endfight, and they didn't seem to help in any way, and they only last about 2-3 rounds.
- the skill of the Paladin "Holy Fingers" might need a small buff. Against the endboss it dealt like 40 damage, that's the same amount the Tickle Feet skill did. Against Scepters both did about 30 damage, but they seem to have a 50% evasion chance against Holy Fingers, making the skill a bit worse. Maybe I just was unlucky, but I didn't see the great use of this skill yet.
- the endboss fight was challenging! My grinding attempts weren't that successful, but some tactical decisions during the fight were. That's how I like my fights, so good job! 🙂
But you might consider splitting the beginning of the fight in two parts, first the tickle scene with Tula (which turned out great!) and then give the player control to engage the battle so he can save between these two things. Otherwise it takes 40-50 seconds of clicking to get the scene and the dialogues out of the way until the battle starts, which gets a bit annoying after several tries (not that I needed them *cough*).

Still some secrets left (like that mysterious door near the endboss), but I'm done for today 😀
Again: great job and keep it up!

First bugs, then praises! (some spoilers, so beware!)

Bugs
- in the village at the beginning in the house of the girl who gives you the letter there appeared a chest, but I can't interact with it
- one of the fishes in the water isn't causing a game over screen if you lose, but just glares at you.
- in Lockstockd Town in the potion shop you can walk on potions (better: on tables with potions on them)
- that in the Oni cave with the walls is a fake bug I guess 😀 nice idea!
- the Naughty Catgirls didn't deal any damage to me, even when I unequipped part of my armor (leaving me with DEF 16 at level 4 with a Paladin). I guess more of a balance thingie than a bug.
- I got stuck HERE: http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/3346/jm5qeudv_jpg.htm
Yep, I'm a genius xD
- after rescuing his wife, the husband still stands beside the dog... and you can walk over him
- in the labyrinth a way to the left doesn't work I think, at least I don't get teleported
- in the game over scene with the necromancer you still hear the tickling sound of Tula the whole time, not sure if this is intended. Somehow ruins the atmosphere I think.

But boy, the Oni leaving the cave scene was soooo epic 😀

And lol, I discovered the second Zombie scene... guess I'm the only person who got the scene without the battle first 😀 and there I wondered why the Figmet is so cruel without any real reason xD
Oh, and... SOOOPAAAAAH STICK! (*in a Franky voice*)
Oh, and I like the LoL-references in the labyrinth 😉
Oh, and I loved the mini game on the rails, somehow reminded me of some old Donkey Kong games ^^

Now off to grind a bit... stupid Necromancer *shakes fist*

Buuut the game got even bigger and better, so a big THANK YOU, AnimeWatcher!
(y no centaur scene? xD)

Noooo, don't complain about damage if you're a paladin. Us mages need help. If catgirls are damaging you, they're going to be killing the mages.

Also, I checked out that chest. I think what happens is after you get the chest once, it doesn't stay open, so it looks like you didn't get it.

Some notes:
- I managed to enter the House of Shrieks, which isn't supposed to happen I guess

You...did...WHAT!?!?!

dyanHre.gif

Were you not stopped at all? If not, then that means my barriers didn't activate, which means people have had full reign of the map and access to places they shouldn't!

Edit: Ok, after a quick freak out...How in bloody HELL did you get in there? Double checking, the barriers SHOULD have stopped everyone from entering anywhere but there...Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............Now I seeeeeeeeeeeeeee........You kept...walking...

...Only the greatest of criminal minds could have thought of that.

So yea, moving along. Time to respond. If anyone does decide to check out the place, again, don't save your game. But do enjoy a spoiler Muca related.

Ummm.... Animu? Is Nadya meant to have jesus powers?

Clearly, yes, yes she is. She IS the Figment after all.

No, she isn't. Gonna fix this in the next update.

Ok, I've managed to fix almost ALL of these right here and they'll be put into the next update. So actually, people HAVE missed several items because they didn't have access to that left passageway in the escape tunnels.

Though, I have absolutely no clue what you meant by Oni cave and fake bug unless you mean the wall you can walk through. In which case, did you try and see if you could move a certain way? Becaaauuse...there's a reason.

As to that chest, as Lurker mentioned, you did grab it earlier. It's just that the graphic messed up and went back to "Unopened Chest" rather than "Already Opened Chest", for lack of a better term.

As to what you did like:

First of all I'm really happy you liked my addition to that. That scene wasn't in the Demo and I decided to add it for Live. I thought it made things better. 🙂

I also want to congratulate you on discovering the 2nd zombie scene. SOME people are ripping their hair out to this day trying to get it lol.

Glad you liked SOOOPAAAHH STIIICK! It is usable throughout the game. Because it is just that amazing!

I have absolutely no idea what you mean by LoL references, unless I've plum forgotten 😛. I AM glad you enjoyed the cart scene though. That was fun to make (though a pain in the arse to get working perfectly since I had to keep measuring out distances).

Woo! More game! The one thing that has roused me from slumber to actually post on here! Although shame on you AW, for making me have to redo the whole first chapter. Eh, actually that's not so bad. THIS guy understands. Atta boy Carn. Well, sortof. The frog can only be fought as so. However...

I nailed that froggy on a mage! Was 100% rng based tho. If she used poke and prod more than twice, I was dead. So I had to try a few times to get the needed rng rotation from her attacks. It's all about commitment 😛

Everything seems great! I did eventually beat the frog girl on ranger, but it took a lot of luck like with the mage.

THESE two get it. The frog is probably the toughest thing in the game because you are level 1 with really nothing special, low health, defense, etc. It is ENTIRELY about RNG, and if you don't succeed you can try, try again. Why? Because she gives you one of the most powerful items in the game (and currently only item that scales with levels as well as benefits every class)

Son.. We need to have a little.. Talk.. Because I spent 4 hours looking for that scene! And got nothin'! If you would be so kind as to tell me in a PM where I could find it.. I would give you all my golden eggs! And a hat!

If he doesn't tell you, I will out of pity :lol I reward people who explore and drop hints on what to look for. Something out of the ordinary. Something that shouldn't belong. Something that is mixed with stuff that makes sense...but this is different. Sharp eyes or going around and examining every nook and cranny will getcha shtuff.

I think the spidergirl might be bugged too. You jump out of the way then it freezes
The powder bucket also doesn't seem to work right now. Don't see it in my inventory, and can't find any creatures that drop it.

This might be related to where you jump. AKA, I once again forgot to imagine players activating the event other than the most straightforward path. I just did a test, and it works one way. I'm guessing you talked to the girl from the side? Because that's what causes the freeze.

Bam, played this version through! (am I the first? I think I'm the first. Oh boy, I'm the first! Do you also hate these "first!" people? I do! And I'm first, so my opinion is the only thing that counts!)

Again: great job and keep it up!

I'm going to go ahead and update the Laughing Lollies just a little. Laughing Lollies are good in the fact that they (should) give a variety of status effects all at once. However, they're a chance item, which means they won't work all the time (that'd be broken).

Holy Fingers will NOT get buffed. Paladins will quickly see themselves falling out with damage. Meanwhile, their tankiness is going to start really showing.
Holy Fingers is special. Its damage works against all monsters and - most importantly - it isn't really affected by Attack Down status (from testing against Vi, who would reduce your damage by 50% in two turns, Paladin normal attack dealt 0 damage while Holy Fingers stayed between 25 and 32). This status drops a Paladin's damage from X to nothing on most encounters. Holy Fingers comes in to actually stop that by allowing you to do some damage still and keep the hate going. If this isn't working correctly in the future, I'll alter it a little to make it like how I wanted it.

Also, about Specters - they're ghosts. They have much higher Evasion than other monsters, so they have a higher chance to dodge physical attacks. This is why you're having trouble hurting them. They're high magic damage, high evasion monsters with low health and mana pools (so they run out after a a few turns and have to restore it).

I'mmmm so happy to hear you used tactics in that fight. Because she was the first fight I made that I tried looking at tactics, and imo she came out great (if a bit tough, but that's what I wanted).

Just throwing this out here...You said 40 - 50 seconds of clicking... Did you not hold down the Q key? Check the first post again under Controls.

There's a few secrets still left, and I feel (especially after Teh Stalker who was big on finding all secrets STILL can't get the 2nd Zombie scene lol) that many people probably missed some hidden items/scenes/places.

I wonder how many people discovered the new "Game Over" scenes I made in Whispering Caves(Oni cave)? :whistling:

Stuck at a game freeze at the escape tunnels in the room with webs.

Yea, I think you did the same thing. Because talking to her one way doesn't freeze it, but the other way does. So I'm gonna fix that.

Noooo, don't complain about damage if you're a paladin. Us mages need help. If catgirls are damaging you, they're going to be killing the mages.

Mages should DEFINITELY be on the lookout for hidden items. Plus, they get a few nice things in the escape tunnels. The thing with Mages is you really need to rely on your Sweet Dreams spell for these early levels. An enemy that can't hit you is a sitting duck.

Atta super sleuth!

Alright, here's another 2 hints.

The scene can only be seen before you talk to the zombie. You'll need something though.

Close by in the cabin...one of these things is not quite like the other. Keep your eyes peeled and find it, then go unlock the scene.

"Oni cave and fake bug unless you mean the wall you can walk through"
yep, I meant that.

"I have absolutely no idea what you mean by LoL references, unless I've plum forgotten"
With LoL I mean Labyrinth of Laughter, and with the references I mainly mean the labyrinth with the spider room. Cause the form, and the nets, and the dead bodies just looked like that's the room where the spider girl in the Thieves Dent lived, and both opponents have a name with Arach in it ^^.

"Holy Fingers will NOT get buffed."
When I went to bed I remembered that I used the weapon "Rod of the Foot" most of the time, which gives +10 Foot Damage. So I guess the Holy Fingers deals enough damage, and I advise you to not change it until more people complain 😀

"Did you not hold down the Q key?"
Whooops, no, I didn't, might solve this problem ^^

".You kept...walking... ...Only the greatest of criminal minds could have thought of that."
Haha, sorry for shocking you, should have added it only worked with this location ^^ But yep, we won't be stopped by simple messages 😉

Oh, and I found the SECRET ROCK! http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/3347/m3yyb5pw_jpg.htm
Its secrets still have to be revealed...
And "One Does Not Simply Take Away Jesus Powers From a Fidget!" http://s14.directupload.net/file/d/3347/72urxsfb_jpg.htm

"I wonder how many people discovered the new "Game Over" scenes I made in Whispering Caves(Oni cave)?"
...are you sure these are working? Well, maybe I'm just too stupid to find them 😉

And just a question, is it possible that there is a teleport not working at the graveyard (bottom right)? (funny how players start seeing bugs everywhere if they can't find what they try to find 😉 )
Same question after you explore the now available left side of the labyrinth and climb down the hole, should you be able to go to the left?

yep, I meant that.

Yea, total reason for that. You'll find several of those "fake bugs" in the game.

OOOOOooohhh that makes more sense. I thought you meant League of Legends. Actually, I did draw some inspiration from LoL's spider woman. That place went through a couple revisions on how the encounter would go and what would be there before I did what you see now. I was even going to snap up the cocoon sprites from somewhere.

Well if they do, I'll remind them that they rolled a tank class. That heals. Sooo..yea. Damage will be made up of the monster girls they accept into their party. If they choose to solo the game, well then it's their own fault. Yea, I'm holding off on changing it unless I see it not working how I intended. It has its uses, but it isn't something you use all the time. When part 2 of the game comes out, you'll more than likely see how nice it is.

".You kept...walking... ...Only the greatest of criminal minds could have thought of that."

Honestly, when I got online and saw that, I nearly crapped my pants. Aside from a few towns that would have some big spoilers, it also would've meant people could get Tula into their party early (since I already had an event where you can recruit her). My heart damn near stopped as I thought people were going around checking out all sorts of things I wanted to surprise them with. Hell, they might've even unlocked the mystery monster girl I've been keeping under wraps.

"I wonder how many people discovered the new "Game Over" scenes I made in Whispering Caves(Oni cave)?"
...are you sure these are working? Well, maybe I'm just too stupid to find them 😉

Should be working! At least from what Teh Stalker says. Amusingly, you have to "be" stupid to activate them, as only a moron of a character could possibly do it.

And just a question, is it possible that there is a teleport not working at the graveyard? (funny how players start seeing bugs everywhere if they can't find what they try to find 😉 )

Do you mean the graveyard where the ghost is? No, that was supposed to link up to the Game Over scene that I was originally going to have as sprite-based rather than text/dark screen.

"One Does Not Simply Take Away Jesus Powers From a Fidget!" http://s14.directupload.net/file/d/3347/72urxsfb_jpg.htm

That water should be able to be walked on, since - if I recall - it's the same tiles as the ones after the cart minigame.

Oh, and I found the SECRET ROCK! http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/3347/m3yyb5pw_jpg.htm
Its secrets still have to be revealed...

W-what the frick is that!? Lol! I don't even have a rock there, let alone an event!

qFA9SqA.gif

HOOOO boy. Done. 4 AM, goin to bed. Ya gotta tell me what voodoo caused that, because that amuse me way more than it should've.

Arachne is still freezing, except it happens after the fight.

I'll take another look at it when I wake up and re-upload 1.2. Probably another sprite movement issue.

Just got to the tunnels, love the way those Zombie gals tease ya! One thing though, I got a pedi stone off of one and found I could use it out of battle. Is this meant to be the case? If so, does it do anything?

For me, after the spider is finished... the game froze too... version 1.2

This game is fantastic!! haha

@Viper: I did, and the stats are niiiice...
but it doesn't open the mysterious door, so it sucks :stickout

@Lurker: These two girls are also present in my game, so I guess AW messed up some teleporting ^^

"Amusingly, you have to 'be' stupid to activate them, as only a moron of a character could possibly do it."
Found the Oni-cave scene... man, I tried so many things... filling the bottles with alcohol, then trying to drink them... filling them up with water... rolling stones in stupid corners...
So many great ways to be a moron... your hints are reeeaaally vague, AW, but I don't blame you xD

Blah, found another I don't believe anyone has mentioned. At the end of the mine cart ride, the character's sprite and portrait changes from the default to the bikini. Thoes are some mad clothes changing skills she has if she can change into her bikini in the blink of an eye, or maybe she was wearing it under her normal clothes which shot off her body as she fell down.

Welp.....that's all for now. Just finished this version. I know it's going to be an incredibly long time before v2 is released, but I get the feeling it will be WELL worth the wait.

No sense in pointing out the bugs, since plenty have pointed out more than I found. However, I thought it was important to say a few things.

You need to hear me on this Anime. You need to. It's important.

YOU MADE ME BREAK MY HABITS! I am insistent on side quests and exploration, but you had to go off and make a continuation of the story, and...and...I caved. I just...gave in. I jumped past all the stuff I'd done before so I could see the new stuff, see where the story went, see if I find the captain or uncover some ancient mystery. Now I have to play it again, from the beginning. You see what you did? DO YOU SEE?!

*Ahem*

Anywho, on a more sane note, you did an awesome job, as always. I made a Paladin when I went through after release of version 1 and was not disappointed. Well, a LITTLE disappointed. I miss damage. But I actually liked holy fingers when I used it. I didn't use it often, but it became very useful when I saw that it rarely missed, if at all. It's great to have if you need a guaranteed hit, like when it's down to the ropes and a baddie is on the verge and you just HAVE to smack them(Has happened to me a few times.).

Maybe it's just the Paladin being beefy as the Cow King, but I didn't really have much trouble with the Necromansureisticklishonherfeet. I fought both the original and the fixed versions, and rocked her world every time. I kept messing up when I forgot to use a heal potion though. You know, when you get a bit too into beating a creature nibbling on your toes and start screaming at them? "COME AT ME BITCH! I'M GOING BRE- ah shit, forgot to heal again."

Also, the prospect of being tickled until you literally DIE (And become an undead thrall, as the case may be) is...well, it should have been horrifying, but I found it exciting. Does...does that mean I'm a villain? Did I accidentally start the game as an evil Figment?

Ah, one last note before I end this post. Another one that is important to read. As a creator of anything, it is important to see that your work is appreciated. So consider this my appreciation. I officially bought RPG Maker VX ACE on steam and will be working on how I want to use it. I've thought about it for awhile, but playing YOUR game (And know that I have played LoL, ToG, AWL, and pretty much every game on here) has pushed me to try it. So...thanks. ^_^

Just got to the tunnels, love the way those Zombie gals tease ya! One thing though, I got a pedi stone off of one and found I could use it out of battle. Is this meant to be the case? If so, does it do anything?

Items like the Pedi Stone can be used out of battle. Hold onto those if you get them, as they can be useful in the future. Using Pedi Stones on your characters or enemies actually gives you a status that doesn't go away after battles(only lasts 2 turns though). Nadya doesn't have the specific body part weaknesses as the monster girls do, but giving her a Pedi Stone will suddenly make Foot tickle attacks on her deal double damage. So you are technically making the game harder for yourself.
And then let me say: Events in the future.

For me, after the spider is finished... the game froze too... version 1.2

This game is fantastic!! haha

I'm reuploading 1.2 with Arachne fully fixed, so it should be good to go now.

I'm glad you've enjoyed the game so far 😀

I can one up secret rock. I can high five the secret rock.

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4894/9bps.png

ALLLLRIGHT. Taking another looking at all these wonderful things, it is indeed a teleportation glitch. Though I'm so curious how you got up there. Climbing the walls hm? Tunneling through the earth, hmmm? Lol gotta fix these.

BTW, in the mining cave, has anyone been able to find the cameo ring? I have. 🙂

Was WONDERING if anyone found it :lol

@Viper: I did, and the stats are niiiice...

Mysterious door is mysterious, isn't it? Where does it go? What does it do? Knock your head against it 3 times and the truth will be revealed in the emergency room! :scared

Lol my hints are vague, but I like giving juussst enough to help out. So you DID find them though, right? I mean, they were staring at you in the face the whole time. You'd have to be blind to miss them.
