[VXAce] Chaos Tower

Just a note about my game. Nothing's happened yet but hopefully it will in the next month and even then I cannot guarantee that. What can I can guarantee is that all the enemy images will be replaced with new original ones. I've found an artist who will be making the images and even suggested reaction images for a couple of them (that being the mini-boss and the boss. I'd have it for all of the enemies but I can't stretch my budget too far. Maybe later.).

Once this artist is done with a bunch of commissions, he's going to move onto mine. I have a job now so that can cover the costs. I'll be replacing the ogre with a catwoman too since I find that to be a better fit. Once he's done with the images, i'll release a version that has these new images in them. I wonder if you can tell who the artist is just by looking at them? 😉

For now, i'm keeping the artist's identity a secret. I'll fill you in on details later. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Also it was my birthday a couple of days ago so yay!

Happy bday mate. 🙂

A little late to the party, is I, but Happy Belated Birthday Xtreme!

Don't fret on the game, take as much time as you need. As I've learned, the forumgoers here are veerrryyy nice and have a good bit of patience (thank heavens).

Good job, btw, on getting some custom images made. Sorry to hear it's coming out of your pocket though 🙁 But, hey, if you're really passionate about something then cost isn't an issue (or something like that).

I'll be looking forward to the continuation of the ticklish android saga!

Thanks everyone. And yeah, you're going to have to part with some money if you're going to get something of quality from artists. Shouldn't be a problem.

And yeah, about the other game i'm working on. That one is more about how much motivation I have and what other things i'm doing at the time. Might take a while but the project hasn't left my mind.

An announcement about my game. The artist I commissioned is incredibly busy. So much so that he can't get to my commissions any time soon. Not to mention that it's been really hard to get a hold of him. It sounds like he has a lot on his plate right now so it might have to get to a point where I look elsewhere for help. But I feel i'm stuck if I do that because I won't be able to find anyone with the right skills or artstyle to help. So as a result, this game is canceled until I can find some way to get around this issue.

Why not contact one of those Artists that Ralavik chap commissioned?

Guys there's something I need to talk to you about. The artist I've found is more than happy to be involved with my project. However, the total bill is going to be expensive after I get all the images for this game. More than I can afford. The first part of the game I can get done but after that, I'm not sure. I'm hoping I can get help from you guys so I can afford new original Monster Girl pictures to be used as battle images. I didn't want to have to resort to donations but the bill is going to be in the hundreds.

Your efforts will not be in vain though. The artist has agreed that all Monster Girl images created by him can be used as a resource for other people to use here for their own games. I've wanted original Monster Girl art because I don't want to have to resort to random stuff on the internet to make these games. Any amount helps towards the project and I only hope you agreed to help out.

Hmm, well if that's the case, then it sounds like a good deal. Helping out, and something a bit like buying a resource pack from the official RPG Maker site, which is something I've already done several times.

If it doesn't sound too self-serving, can I ask about the details of this content? I guess namely how much is there?

Are we able to see a gallery of existing work from the artist, or are they doing this under condition of anonymity?

So far I'm commissioning 6 pictures from this artist to replace battle images for the first part of the game. I may replace character class images too. I was going to have the artist be a surprise because you know his art well enough but since I've gotten desperate, the artist I have helping me is Cheshire Cat. He's more than happy to make Monster Girl art for this project but I still need to pay for all of it.

Cheshire Cat's gallery on dA, for the curious.

Yeah, ok, if there's an easy way to donate, then I'd be up for donating a little.

I'm gonna use Paypal for this since that's simple enough. Once I start getting pictures from CC, I'll set up a donation thing. I guess you could say this is kind of like a Kickstarter without the big promotion. Again, any amount helps towards the project and thank you for willing to help out.

Also just so you know, all map design in this game has been completed.

Everyone, I have a big announcement to make. The new enemy artwork for my game is almost complete. The basic enemies for part 1 have been finished and a huge thank you to Cheshire for his work on them. There's just a bit more to go. In the mean time, I'm going to start revamping the work I've done on the game so far. I'll be going over everything and changing stuff here and there. I've already made changes to what enemies appear in part 1. Just removed a couple and added a new one.

And I do believe you have all been more than patient enough that you deserve to be shown the new monster girl artwork in advance. I'll keep the boss art a surprise until you play the revamped version. Partly because they're not even done yet. This will also be a taste of what's to come in later parts should I get enough from donations which I do hope you can support me on.

I hope you like what you see here. And again, thank you for your continued patience.

I forgot about this game! Good to see it's still going on! Nice choice of artist btw

I've completely finished redoing episode 1! It's been a while since I worked on this game so I'll try to list what changes and additions there are.

-New island overworld graphics
-New music added
-New enemy artwork
-New Skill added to target breasts
-Some of the dialogue rewritten (Checked all the dialogue in the game to see what needs changing)
-New Class: Summoner
-Bugs fixed

Knowing me, I probably missed at least one bug in this game but let me know if you find any. Also, I'd really appreciate feedback from you guys, it's part of what drives me to keep going. I'll set up some kind of donation thing sometime later. It'll be in parts instead of the whole thing at once.

The link is at the start of the thread.
I hope you enjoy the game and the changes I've made to the first part.

You need only to ask :cool

THE ART

The art is magnificent (I had purposely avoided looking at the posted images before; I prefer these things to be discovered along the game). The two bosses in particular, and the unlikely "human" bunny girl are my favourites. Kudos to Cheshire, as always.

THE GAMEPLAY

Quite good. The strong point of the game, so far, are the boss fights; they are well crafted, carefully balanced, and tailored around the core features of the individual monster girls. I don't want to spoil anything about the plant boss, but personally, I found the fight really funny and satisfactory.
I played mage and the overall balance I experienced was ok, though I did not buy all the available skills so I cannot rule out completely any problem yet.
The most difficult thing for me was the inevitable attrition you face while climbing your way up the tower; while the random fights per se were well balanced, teleporting gems are insanely expensive for a beginner, and understanding when it's the moment to go back before you are forced to spend 3 healing potions in the process can be tricky. I managed to somewhat reduce the issue by focusing on buying mana potions and taking advantage of my self-heal out of fights, capitalizing on the better cost/efficiency ratio of a mana recharge over a health one. This however forced me to almost utterly abandon the use of my magic outside of self-healing, and also brought me to avoid buying healing potions at all; honestly I don't even know if all classes could do that, and it's not immediately intuitive for a beginner. Of course there is always the option of mindlessly grinding near the entrance of the first levels instead of exploring the tower, but I'm sure you wouldn't want to encourage that.

Suggestions: cut heavily the price of teleporting gems sold by the mimic, or alternatively make them way more likely to drop from random foes. Furthermore, while I understand the need to support the local economy, 30 golds per rest at the local inn is a robbery! They don't even serve you breakfast, or let you tickle the maid a bit!

THE WRITING

Good, no major problems that I could see; just some occasional typos here and there. A minor disappointment that I had, was that in the plot dialogues and even during the game over scenes my character never spoke with "her" voice.

THE PLOT: PRESENT, FUTURE (and some unrequited suggestions...)

So far everything is a mystery, but from what I gathered in-game, that was your intention. It's still too early to understand why the Chaos Tower has appeared in this land, or what connection do it's inhabitants have with tickling. I guess the crystals are meant to be some kind of early hint... but we'll see. I would very much like if you began to unravel these mysteries in the next chapter; a second intriguing hint that I would really like to explore, is the implied existence of a faction of monsters that do not adhere to the moral code of the succubus (as in the words of the mimic). It's easy to see here the potential for a series of playful, lighthearted encounters with lots of tickling and enjoiment, and many opportunities for plot advancement, or even secondary quests. Not to mention that it would be wonderful to give back some love to that poor mimic. Seriously... all alone, closed for days in that dark box... it would be nice to be able to cheer her up.
Finally, I have this perverse idea that you put in my mind with that alraune fight... could we have a cutscene that actually *shows* what our character implied - that is, the succubus boss punishing Hana for her failure? That would be a real treat.

BUG REPORT

Island map ---> the sea is apparently flagged as walkable for my PC. Either that, or my mage has Jesus' powers included in her skillset. Which admittedly would be cool... but still, better to report it. Just in case.

Tower Level 3 ---> wandering around, I occasionally had a random encounter with a monster with no avatar, no name, no fight or reward, and instant victory.

Web Shield ---> the skill seems to be bugged. I tried using it against Hana, but it didn't shield from damage at all; then during the following turn a sentence "Hana's web shield is torn apart!" appeared, as if she was the caster.

ART
Yes, the art is very well done. He did a great job on them. I especially like how well the bosses and Slime Girl were designed.

GAMEPLAY
I appreciate the compliment on the gameplay but concerning the prices on the inn and return gems, you're right, it's not balanced well for a beginner. So the inn has had a discount to 20G for a night and 10G for a drink and return gem prices are now cut by 50%. I also increased the gold output for each random enemy by about 10 to help with the balance and gave them all a chance to drop a return gem. It can get quite tedious to climb that tower after all.

THE PLOT
Indeed, the plot is still a mystery, after all, it IS the first chapter so everything's being set up. Rest assured, there will be more in the next one. I do have plans for the Mimic in the future. Oh and funny you should mention Kyrina punishing Hana for her failure. To be honest, I've already written something for the next chapter. 😉

BUG REPORT

Well poo! All that time of testing and I had no idea that the tiles for the ocean were set to walk across! Fixed.

Ugh. I thought I got rid of all of it. That's empty data from a previous change. Fixed.

Oh dear. I can't believe that slipped by me too. The Web Shield was set to being used against the enemy instead of the user. Fixed.

Thank you very much for your feedback on the game. I'll upload a new version very soon. Save files should hopefully be fine with this patch.

EDIT:
Done. New version.
Also added to the start of the thread as well. Fixes money drops, adjusts Inn and Return Gem prices and fixes bugs.

Not sure why, but whe I play as a female summoner, the game stops moving foward once you can see the isle. I'll try another class.

EDIT: Same with the female fighter. Is the problem on my side?

Thanks, just finished the chapter with the sumoner. I'm sorry I can't give much feedback, but at least I can say that it was fun. I would keep playing if possible, hope it will be soon.

Good luck with the rest of the game!

Cool, cool. But you still have to let us tickle the maid. 😉

...I suspect this is going to enter in my dreams, tonight.

By the way, I didn't ask before, but... is there some side quest in the village? I've made a quick exploration and found none so far, but I might have missed something.
