Tower of Gargalesis (Tickling RPG M/F, F/F, F/M)

I have to agree with the last 2 posters here on that part. FF VIII does not even punish you this badly on enemies leveling with you. Bosses are already annoyingly long on normal standards. They kill you if you overlevel just by one level. It does not make battles more difficult, just only longer. more Hp=/=Difficult fight. This has been the only Achilles of this game.

Well like I said, I really wanted to read through everything for the answer, but after seeing constant little mentions of this character or that character, I kind of jumped out and decided just to ask, instead of getting drowned in spoilers. After all it's a good story, and I don't want to know what is coming next.

But my question was answered, so thank you AnimeWatcher~ Very informative, polite, and overall helpful.

Well that's.....depressing.

I always have a habit of level farming for a little bit when I play RPGs, always trying to stay a head of the enemies and such a bit. I mean it's a good game and such but shouldn't leveling up make me stronger?

But I guess I'll just reset the game then I suppose, kinda kills the mood to play but hopefuly once I get back to my location it will pick up again.

Most RPG gamers are used to being able to grind out levels. However, as MisterDae mentioned, FFVIII (one of the reasons I didn't like it nearly as much as FFVII) also had enemies scale. But I believe it was just HP scaling - if it was stats, it wasn't nearly as much as it is here.

Sorry you have to reset the game, but hey - at least this gives you an excuse to do another class and see their class-specific tickle scenes. Unless of course you were playing a Mage. Then...sorry 🙁 you'll have to reroll the best class (of which I'm referring to female Mages. Males don't exist to me as that class. Red eyes, silver hair, hyper-ticklish feet? Perfection...:wub)

If it makes you feel any better, I had an Adventurer that I had gained level 13 with(and farther along than you are) before Deus revamped the class system and added the skill tree books, so I was forced to reroll since I couldn't acquire them (or continue the game sadly). It's ok though, since all classes gained the Surrender skill, which was one of the reasons I chose Adventurer in the first place.

-This brings up a good point as to why I don't agree with making games in increments/chapters and putting them out one by one. If you change/add anything like quests requiring new quests or new battle systems, you can completely mess up the progress players have made before then. It's just like LoL being switched over to Ace now - I'm forced to lose EVERYTHING I did in previous versions.
(This is more for people who were discussing chapters with me in my game thread)-

Not to be harsh, but I have little sympathy for the people who overlevel in ToG. Deus and others have announced repeatedly over these many pages that there is an optimal level for each chapter, and not to go beyond it. The healing items are in set units, not a percentage. The enemies don't need equipment or items: they level their stats correspondingly in a way the player cannot. Grinding is not the answer in this game. Caution and an abundance of potions is.

This is especially true given the 99 save states and the explicit advice at the beginning to use them. You should go back to a save state at lvl X. If you don't have a save state for every level you've been at, you're doing it wrong.

Well, to come to Yumes' defense, he DID mention that he didn't bother looking because he didn't want spoilers. Which I guess is a good point since we have everything only in this one thread (instead of an FAQ thread). Still, yea, if you're not using all those save points, you honestly have only yourself to blame. Still, it would've been nice to have gained some armor aside from chest pieces. It might've helped with situations like this.

I know it's off topic, but that Double D picture threw me into hysterics. XD

So long as you're quoting me - everything you post is on topic 😀 Looks like the pic completed its task successfully and made someone laugh!

A few thoughts on this:

  • The game's character advancement and enemy scaling system are counter-intuitive. They punish typical RPG behavior, even though the game is an RPG.
  • Dependency on external documentation is a design failure.
  • The information isn't in the first post. Having to scour a thread, as homework, to make sense of a game is not fun.
  • Gotchas suck, even beyond game design. "It's documented" is not an excuse. Listing the trade-offs underlying a design decision, however...

-Not ALL RPG's go with the leveling thing, but it is really harsh in this one. It's not a slap on the wrist like FFVIII, it's more of hitting you with a semi going 75 MPH.
-Not entirely. If that was the case, most games would be failures because guides are made; like how systems work (like crafting).
-This is something that ALL RPG makers here need to do, so I agree with what you say here. Important info should ALWAYS be in the first post since nobody bothers to read past that. Though, a lot of people don't even bother with the first post - they just grab the game and then bitch, despite how the fixes are right below it. Sadly, community members post answers instead of directing them to the first post and shaking their head at them in disgust; they cave in to this lazy attitude because they try to be helpful.
-can't really comment on this last one except nodding my head as nothing else really needs to be said.

The thing about this entire game, IMO, is that it's a game with our fetish mixed in with it. Personally I am refreshed by Procella's approach to the game. I'm not much for your standard RPGs but I do fully enjoy this game. However, I also have been keeping up with this thread for somewhere over 100 pages at the least, so I know stuff that, say, Yumes wouldn't. When Procella is able to come back in any capacity I do vote that all important info on the game that isn't in-game should be migrated into the first post. Everything in said post is already before the link so you can't just grab the link without scrolling down, which is good.

Regarding the game itself and the challenge it brings, see here's the thing that I see. Procella has this story that he is able to put out into a game, but he wants there to be challenge to it. Now, I say that this caters more towards people like me who are inherently gamers than it does non-gamers, but when I think of a game that involves tickling as its main premise, I definitely prefer this approach as opposed to something that is basically laughably easy. In that case, what's the point of making a game which requires a lot less effort? You might as well just write the story in a "choose your own adventure" format.

Procella wants the game to be a challenge, and he probably did have in mind that the people who would most play his game are gamers. Honestly I believe that the main reason for this is so that you legitimately can't just grind your way through the game, because that would be a detriment to Procella himself and whatever effort he and countless others (be it thread posters or people who beta tested something for a few hours - I did that with Paranoia Mk. I back last year under a different name). As above, if everyone just grinded for a few hours that then he wasted his time making the game and trying to make it challenging if people could just grind out to max level and slaughter everything in their path. The point of it all is to make something people will legitimately challenge players in order to get to what the game's main attraction is, otherwise what was the point of it strictly being a game in the first place? To be fair though, he did give that white or black or whichever color feather in normal difficulty for people who wanted to mostly breeze through, and has been saying he'll be regulating bonus content/the true ending into DWTD mode as compensation.

That's my take on it, anyhow. Personally, I'm a fan, even though I haven't touched the game in forever (I replayed it a few times when I first got into it and kind of wore myself out on it). It's honestly an odd feeling, because I can remember at one point that the game sort of gave me a high, I think, upon completing something that I did some time ago, can't remember what it was. It's like, a gamer's high I suppose, and I felt a sense of accomplishment or connection with the game, as silly as this might sound. I remember it as a similar feeling that I had when I first beat Ballos in Cave Story a few years ago, and any game that can get me that invested in it for any reason has my highest vote.

As far as enemies levelling with you, now while there was no "optimal level to finish a chapter in" thing mentioned for obvious reasons in-game, I do recall there being an in-game explanation as for why the Mamono level with you, though I forget who mentions it. Probably Honey Bee. Anyhow, that's probably the big trigger that's supposed to tip you off that you shouldn't be mindlessly grinding through the game. I know Procella had to be MUCH more informative in-game with the dialog boxes at the beginning reminding you that you can RUN, and to utilize every save slot that you have.

Speaking of Procella I do hope he's doing alright for himself currently. I forget the reason for his current hiatus if there was a specific one. I should really replay the game now actually, because I haven't touched it since before the last large update I don't think. I barely tinkered with the skill tree, and I know jack shit about that uh... witch... shit, I can't remember her n- Pandora.

Also at Yumes, if you have any (specific) questions pertaining to the game you can probably ask me next time we're in a mass skype chat. At least the basic-but-not-readily-available information I should have from what I recall about the game at large.

That's in response to another poster, but it sets this up:
-Not ALL RPG's go with the leveling thing, but it is really harsh in this one. It's not a slap on the wrist like FFVIII, it's more of hitting you with a semi going 75 MPH.
You may have misread me. The point is, all things being equal, players expect RPG characters to grow stronger with levels, assuming they're not moving on to new content.

The design in ToG is questionable for, by surprise, turning this assumption on its head from within the genre.

this caters more towards people like me who are inherently gamers than it does non-gamers
...

No true gamer would balk at tediously long battles, eh?

I think his DA account is still open. :whistling:

Calypso?

Calypso?

True (I haven't touched the game in like... a year, possibly, so I forget a large portion of it). I tend not to notice the length of battles (I easily get absorbed in stuff, and in this case might not even notice how long the battle goes on for). And yeah, Calypso, thank you. I know I wasn't thinking of Paranoia, but I had only heard of Calypso in a few posts way back when she was first introduced, having not played the game in, as I said, quite a while (since before she was in it in fact).

Not sure why I thought Pandora :S Maybe it's due to a friend's recent talking to me about one of the 3DS Kid Icarus games.

EDIT: So here's a thing. While I have played through the game before and have read this entire thread, I forget much of it, so I won't know what's been bug reported and what hasn't. I don't suppose there's anywhere else to gather all this considering how tiring it would be to scour the thread for everything since the last update?

In any case, bug in the first chapter. After Honey Bee sends you off to find the lone Tickle Fairy in the forest, surrendering to her ends the fight, but you're still in control on the overworld. Attempting to fight her again starts the fight, then says you were tickled into submission. No game over, you can continue on as is, including heal yourself but ONLY with the fairy in the next screen, and you can try the fight again. You CANNOT heal yourself with juice, nor can anything in the village help you because you don't have enough coins. Apparently, entering the Twins' Tome or Journal items in the menu makes the Game Over screen trigger. This seems to only happen if you use the Surrender option, as if your health is depleted, it is replenished to full for this battle. Therefore, if you let the fairy on the next screen get overtaken by the spores, you can't heal.

This same problem pops up with the Giggle Goblin afterwards, HOWEVER the game continues on as normal as if you beat the Goblin (whereas with the fairy, it didn't), talking to Honey Bee has her tell you about the Tickle Essence Jar. The next random encounter you get into, you're automatically beaten. You can make it to the healing fairy (just barely, I'd say), but still you're breaking the game. If you make it back to the goblin, you can fight her again (this time without the skill introduction bit), but this time getting drained of HP ends the fight, but again you're just on the overworld with 0 HP. On the next random encounter with anything, an instant loss brings you to the game over scene but the goblin's scene plays. If you make it back to the goblin and BEAT her, it doesn't seem to affect Honey Bee or the Mimic's flags, however it's still ill-advised because it could affect something else largely.

Additionally, the talk with Honey Bee when you learn Tickle Wisp as a Mage (might be as you learn your first skill for whichever class) seems buggy towards the end, with the shapeshift noise going off twice, the PC backing off a few steps, and talking to her again plays said shapeshift twice and Honey Bee speaks while in bee form, then the shapeshift animation plays again at the end of the brief convo, yet she remains in bee form.

My God the bug reporter in me is being unleashed. The Giggle Goblin on the overworld map turns to look up no matter which direction you come at her in.

If you decline to battle the fairy in the Lost Child quest at first, each subsequent time it'll repeat that the quest was updated. Same occurrs with A Fungus among us when "talking" to the Great Kshroom.

Unless I'm missing something, putting a point in Incredible Stamina only increases your Stamina by 40 instead of 50, like it says. Same thing happened later when pouring another SP into that, so now I'm assuming it's not a solid increment by the number listed.

In the hedge maze, if you backtrack through it, you can get caught in the chest game over, but nothing else. Probably intentional but figured I'd mention it.

This seems like an old issue, but if you're injured during Old Codger's Chores when you get his Grape Juice, you can drink it and not have anything to give to him. I'm assuming a workaround could be to just nab a Grape Juice later in the game and give it to him, but I'm not sure that'd work. Either way it's still worth mentioning. It might be possible to do this with the beer

You can't talk to the head waitress in the Pub (the one in the middle), though this might be intentional until the minigame opens.

Not sure if it's intentional, but at least with the fairy battles, you can only have a single status effect on you at a time. If a fairy using that blinding flash move while you're uncomfortably numb, you won't remain numb.

Some of the dialog choices in the Aello fight when she attacks talk about doing x to the foe, though some others still directly reference you being attacked instead of "the foe." A small thing I know but it stuck out to me, and I'm a perfectionist. Same thing happens with Hathor, and on Hathor, regular random encounter battle music plays as opposed to the miniboss music, I'm assuming that's unintentional.

During the Lady Venus fight, you'll get auto-healed once. Dunno if this is sort of buggy because I know that happened during the intentional fairy/goblin fights from earlier. I'm guessing it's a reoccurring thing that happens in chapter 1 only. Also regarding Venus, if you lose but escape in the ensuing choices, and you go back to Venus, the first encounter plays again. I dunno if that's intention or not but it seems silly for the same cutscene to play considering you just lost the fight. + Upon getting further into the fight, after she gets rid of your "protection" and blows dizzy spores on you and the battle ends (I think that's how it is supposed to go), returning will play a new cutscene. However, losing before getting that far won't trigger it.

In the descriptions for new skillso n the Twins' Tome, adrenaline costs are not what they list, if that's what that's supposed to be. Tickle Wisp is listed as 8, but it costs nothing. Feather fire is listed as 10 but costs 1, unless that number is to list how much min adren you need in order to put an SP into that, like a requirement.

When talking to HB after defeating Venus and she's asking you if you're ready to fight her, even though the game makes you move in front of her, HB will face whatever direction you talked to her from, so if you approach from behind her, she'll face away from you once she transforms and once you're scriptedly moved in front of her.

At the end of asking HB "Where are you ticklish?" her sprite goes from humanoid to the bee form without a transformation animation.

A loss to Calypso doesn't make the battle music stop through the game over scene.

The Goblin Guard (A-C) battle sometimes has an image of one of the defeated guards coming back the next turn.

Since you listed so many i figured ill list one.

-When fighting the goblin village, during the boss fight if you're a mage and you cast that bubble splash spell you hear the voice of Mammona then you fight a whole bunch of people in the stead of guard B. Such as the fox sisters, An Oni goblin, and Hathor. I think thats it.

Well I see a bunch of people talking about the leveling system, and I thought I might comment on the matter. For me, the ability to spend a little time to become better than an enemy that seems overwhelming is what makes an RPG an RPG! So from my perspective me the No true scotsman argument is reversed, where it seems to me this is actually No true RPG! lol.

But really, it really doesn't seem fun when "difficulty" is based around having the perfect level, and hoping the random number algorithm that decides damage doesn't decide to kill you THIS time. That seems less like difficulty and more like the creator saying "I bet those suckers will waste a bunch of time on this boss!" Not saying Deus is that cruel, I think he's awesome. But this particular fact about his game bugs the crap out of me.

Man, I finally beat Beezlebebe... that fight is really really long and tiresome... but you can be really proud of yourself when you finally manage to win 😀
My estimations say she has about 4800hp, I hope the next boss has a bit less stamina ^^

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they only get worse

Maybe we should just admit that Deus might not continue this project? I mean he probably has a ton of personal matters to deal with.

Also Inigo, as fun as challenging battles can be, I'm just not in the mood to fight hour long boss battles over and over again each time the game is revamped 🙁

I'm trying real hard not to think about such an outcome. Deus at least is still around. Yet, the game hasn't gotten any update on its status since he came here a few months ago and let us know he still has a tickle fetish and still wants some things in the game.

I would hate for this to become vaporware, but it's becoming an increasing possibility with each passing week.

I know Mega Upload went down, so does anyone know where I can get this game. Has there been another link posted somewhere?

why do ya continue to sadden me by bumping this?...why? It is never going to get done.

Not with that attitude! =P jk jk

But for real though, you have to have faith. Even if you truly feel like it's not, believing helps. And now, cliche phrases:

It's not over, til it's over!

Rome wasn't built in a day!

Patience is a virtue!

Good things come to those who wait!

A watched pot, never boils!

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Waste not, want not!

A bird hand is worth two in the bush!

ok... i got a lil carried away but you get the idea =)

Excuse me guys... please can anyone of you post another link to this game?
I deleted it for mistake :cry

Gah! alright alright I will believe just...just no more cliches!

I think there's a lot more that's not shown when you're playing the game. Just decrypt the game file and you will know what I mean if you open it with RPGmaker 🙂.

Indeed. I followed your advise, and... DAAAAAAAAAMN. The level of detail and planning that Deus put in this is downright INSANE (and I still avoided spoilers! the geek inside of me just won't give in). I really hope the game gets updated in the future, the lore and the story established in it is just too good to let it pass.
I always thought that when completed, this thing could be legendary to the community. Not only the game itself, which already is entertaining as hell, but the chance to have spin-offs (some of which we already have on the story section, and are great too), pin-ups, comic book, more games, etc.

Sorry, I went all fanboy-ish there for a moment. But still, I think I made my point clear, and I'd bet I'm probably not alone on that.
