[VX Ace] The Laughing Isles

I found a little bug, when you go to sleep in the barracks and worryn wakes you up to talk to you, if you walk left and leave the building you will start the centaur raid even though you didn't get the cutscene with worryn, and she won't be in your party.

I also have a few questions.

Is there something specific you have to do to get the man to let you upstairs in his cabin? I got the notice where it tells you that you can unlock more content as the story progresses but I went back over to him and he still wont let me go up there.

And is there a way to save the man who gets taken by one of the centaurs? I tried to chase them down but everytime I get either too close or they get to the edge of the town it still freezes, so I have to save the wife instead.

Goodness, what is it with you people and wanting to leave areas that you shouldn't? :lol I'll get that fixed too on next release.

Ok, wait wait wait. Something tells me NO ONE has been able to get upstairs in his house...Have they? You guys can come clean on this. Because I think I just discovered that I was missing the switch that allows it. ARGH! Truthfully, has ANYONE been able to get upstairs? Because you SHOULD'VE and if not, you've all been missing out on one of my favorite events for the Demo.

As to saving the husband, I'm working on fixing the event's freezing, but if you want to save him there's 2 ways. One requires something you did in the Waiting Room, the other requires you to run ahead of and attack the centaur herself.

I never got up the stairs. I figured maybe his wife and kids' bodies were up there or something. Sorry, I'm rather morbid first thing in the morning.

And I mean that for both the lack of upstairs and the bolded. Go and get yer coffee!

Went upstair.. Yaaay. Also. When you defeat her and spare her.. She runs into a wall and freezes the game xD
Also. When you have defeated the her and completed the quest, you can't enter the room again. It goes back to the thumping pattern it had before you entered. And if you lose to her.. It doesn't give you a game over! 😵
And finally! You can't complete the quest in sandy smiles. Went back to the gardener after I defeated the harpy.. But she just keeps repeating the "save my babies" part. ^^

Ohhhh THANK YOU! Good catch. The special battle should only be able to be fought once, but I forgot to put a limiter on it! Hooo boy, that would've been painful if it happened on Live. And I've fixed the Skip Scene issue. It should work correctly now. :blush Lisdexia can happen sometimes.

As for the Tula music...

zubGQHD.gif

WHYYYY did no one tell me about this? And if so, why didn't they put it in all caps? Goodness, people have been playing the whole game with that screw up! No no no no. Big Red Boss is Tula's own music. It's too boss-like to be used on simple minions and common mobs!

And thanks for mentioning the torture room. Fixed that up for the next release I did. Yup yup.

You're very welcome. I'm glad I could help with the development of this awesome game while enjoying it at the same time.

Wait, what? No no, Tula's music isn't what's playing after her fight, it's the cave music. You know, just the regular BGM when you first enter the cave and while you're sloving the puzzles on your way to fight Tula, not the music during Tula's fight. Sorry, I guess I wasn't specific enough.

Torture room? What torture room? I said pris......ohhh.....hehehe :shifty:

BTW, good idea deciding to release the rest of your game in "chapters". It just seems to be more appropriate since you've already released a fair chunk of the game. Plus, cause you've already got pretty much everyone intoxicated with these scenes, I don't think we could stand to last until you've bashed out the rest of the game in one shot. I know it'll bring back some bad memories of ToG for some people, but I feel more certian that you'll follow through and finish the game.

Also, to be honest, no, I haven't been upstairs in the 'Lil cabin on the Prairie. Since the man said he lives there with only his children, I figured only his kids would be up there. I wasn't thinking about finding another event or couple more scenes.

done. The monster was cute, her "capitalist spirit" was hilarious and the scene overall really nice 🙂
The only thing I would recommend for that quest is to polish the layout of the text, which often goes outside the window.

PS I want to know the rules of "cowgirls and feathers"!

Harpy kidnapping "babies":

another nice monster and an excellent torture scene. I can clearly see which monster AW was paying homage to... 😉
By the way, am I supposed to do something after having defeated the harpy? The gardener keeps screaming in desperation...

Hoo hooo that should be fixed in this next release. Friggin zombies be messin up mah game, even after I put so much love into em.

But yea, all this SHOULD be fixed. Hopefully.

Harpy should be fixed too now. No more babies and screaming. Screaming babies be gone.

Aaaahhh alright, well this SHOULD be fixed now. We'll wait and see if someone mentions it again.

heh heh heh, yesss...welll...What did you think there'd be down there? A place full of iron bars and cups you could clink against the bars? Hohoho...

Ahhhh I'm so happy to hear everyone has enjoyed my game! I'm looking forward to future chapters being released (working on them right now actually...when not fixing bugs and balancing 😛). I really hope everyone continues to love it as the story progresses. But if I can't for some reason, finish the game, I'll let everyone know so they can stop refreshing the page each day in hopes something new was added.

Well now you should go up there, especially since I just updated and fixed stuff!

lol vi is the end of it or am i just stupid? blue screen of death

Mwahaha! Vi is the end, for she corrupts the game when you face her. Remember what her full name is, now.

Fixed everything in there (hopefully), so all options should work. BY THE WAY, did you know there's more than 1 scene around her? There's a secret scene, but I won't tell you how to get it 😉

But all text should be polished now. I hope. I think. Hopefully I think.

Maybe if you stalk the children, you'll find out o.o Course, then you might also get in trouble when caught. Sooo...yeaaaa..

Bwuuuuh? And who am I paying homage to? :44: But yes, you should be able to talk to the gardener now and finish the quest in the latest version.

Ahhhh, it's so refreshing to come home from a long day of work and find there is an update waiting with quests I had not done yet previously.

Soooooo, next chapter to be released when? Two days? Three? :stickout

Huh....I still can't go upstairs in the cabin. I spared the flower girl after I beat her. Should I have finished her?

EDIT: The cave music is still playing for random encounters instead of the chocobo music. Did the patch fail or something?

EDIT 2: WTF?! I know I already talked with Worynn, I have the Pheromone Phial equipped. Unless you're able to do the frog girl event without talking to Worynn first. But still, i'm certian I talked to her before I went back to the pond in the beginning area.

EDIT 3: Ok, nevermind about not being able to go upstairs in the cabin. After talking with Worynn (again), I was able to go up. But the random encounter music is still wrong.

These quests have been here all along. I jut didn't have everything properly connected, and I am saddened over that. Now, everyone can enjoy these quests (I've been so curious as to why nobody has mentioned them!)

Live version will be released first. Next chapter after that. Soooo in eleventy-six days 😀

Glad you got upstairs working. You will not be able to go upstairs until you've completed the Alraune quest (doesn't matter what you do) AND you have gotten far enough to where the message pops up telling you new events are available.

Pheremone Phial = Frog girl event. You can only do it once, and only before a specific point. Let me know if you're able to do it multiple times, though you definitely should not from what I've tested and am looking at on my screen right now.

As for the battle music, currently you'll need a game restart or to play a save before you fought Tula for the changes to take place. If they haven't changed, do let me know.

I just defeated Vi a few hours ago, and since all I said here was about bugs, might as well say what is missing.

AW, your game so far is awesome. My body tingles in anticipation for the next part.
Nadya and the other relevant characters are all likeable in their own way and I do want to see and interact with them all again, hope we can give the general an opportunity for revenge in the future. I mean, for justice! Yes, justice, that's right, that's what I meant.

Now I will go and try to find the zombie girl for the second time. I wonder where she is...

Things are progressing...Well not ENTIRELY smooth due to the bugs (thankfully you guys are thorough, so I'm super happy and love fixing all these), but we're moving along quite well. Player response looks to be quite good too, so I'm really thankful on that one. It puts a smile on my face when I hear some loving a scene or a character or just the game in general. Once everything is done with the Demo, I'll release the Live version, which will be partially what everyone is seeing here (and then some).

I have to tell you Dae, it will not be the whole game on first release. I've decided to go the "Chapters" way and release a little bit each time until the game is completed. I won't be USING Chapters, but still will be putting up roadblocks for players.

I can respect this. I wish you luck. But in extremely selfish wish, I hope you do not abandon it halfway through. I am still sadden over Dues's great work going unfinished. Though I have a small hope he is actually finishing it slowly but surely and when he comes back it will be with a finished product...or near completed.

I have confidence in you.

DAaaaaaaaaamn!! A few days with no internet, and when I come back I find out this thread has grown insanely big!

I finished playing the latest version (8B at the time of this post), and so far I haven't found any glitches or bugs previously unreported.
Before that, I wanted to say something about the whole Centaur Raid quest and the final Demo Boss.

OH MY FREAKING LORD

I just wanted to say... (spoilers!)

Dear Bezzy... are you the spawn of Satan?!!!

It's a great scene, specially from the moment that you defeat the last centaur up to the point where Nadya runs into the hidden passage. To see the general tickled like that! 😀
And the final boss once one heck of a fight. I could be hours writing on how awesome it was, but, without spoiling it, let me say that the tone of it is just perfect. The efects, the dialogs, the colours, and specially the music, it all fits the fight like a glove. Being a comic book geek my whole life, I couldn't help but to see it feels quite... "Joker-esque" (size-changing fonts included), since Vi is out just to make mischief and break things, only for the sake of it.
The victory scene is tremendously ingenious too, I'll just leave it at that 😉
Oh, and the face change thingy before the fight, when the music starts to get louder... that really freaked me out, dude :lol
So far, I'd say that my favorite scenes are both the victory scene against the zombie and losing against Vi, with the one with the octopus girl being in a close spot.
Anyway, I rambled on for quite a bit. I guess I'll give a few review of the game after replaying it once we get a "finished" demo version. But seriously, top notch stuff, man 😀

There are 3 things that still baffle me even after completed the game, and I seriously can't figure out even to save my own life:
1- How do I get into the prison? Can I get there at this point on the game? I've tried getting in every different moment (before talking to Worryn, after that, during the raid, etc), but I just keep getting the same message from the guard at the door and no other thing seems to trigger some event to enter there.
2- What's up with the dog? I also tried every alternative (I think), but the only difference that I found is that if I give him the ball, he'll appear next to the north entrance of Lockstock and that's it. I can't interact with him whatsoever.
3- The goddamn deer. Where is it? How do I find it? What does it do? I swear I scouted that map from one end to the other and I couldn't find one deer.

Also there are another things, like some secret enemy encounter, a pheromone phial, and a frog girl (this one I remember encountering it on the first version of the demo, but now I wonder if she's not supposed to pop out someplace else) that I also think I'm missing, but I'll keep those for later.
If anyone has some idea of the heck to do with those things, your advice will be much appreciated 😀

Ahhhh I love hearing praise from my hard work! It makes me so happy! Some you will see again, others you won't. Especially depending on what you did to them. I hear a dissolved slime can't come back from that, but who do I know 😛 She does make for a great ticklee though. Hmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmmm...You think it's just gonna be the general getting revenge? Hmhmhmhmhm... Oh the stuff I have planned for all of you.

As for the zombie girl, I heard they're attracted to places that have men with large mustachios. Might help. :lol

WHEEEE I love this part the most. People coming out and saying their favorite things. Things they loved, things they enjoyed. Things they want to see again and again.

You're, I think, the first one who ever gushed over Vi's battle. That's something I've been waiting for, whether or not she got ANYTHING out of you. And hearing your little commentary on Bezzy (shhhh iz a secret) is hilarious. Don'tcha just love Vi the Virus? Gotta cause chaos wherever she goes.

-The prison is accessible in game. In the Demo? No it is not. But in the game, yes you can get access to it.
-FINALLY someone talks about the dog. This is a branch quest, and it starts right here. Do you grab the ball? Or do you give the ball? Give the ball to the dog and then later watch what happens in the centaur raid.
-Deers like quiet places, normally near lakes. They are quite shy and are good at slipping through the cracks just when you think you've got em.

Ah, I shall be very eager to read your full review once I've got it all packed up and ready for Live.🙂

And all 3 of those things you mentioned are one and the same. They are a missable secret event. You cannot get it once past a certain point in the story. Might want to check the wet areas frogs inhabit, but not in a later part in the game since it's useless to you. Let's see if you can rely on your Beginner's luck. 🙂

A very nice demo, AW. I'd report bugs, but anything I've seen is probably being reported five times over already. I gave it a run-through with a warrior. Got all the way to Vi, then somehow realized I got nerfed along the beta versions, and can't beat her. Ah well, I'm thinking of running through with a ranger and seeing the differences, and going through on a more stable version.

Things I like:
-Scenes have a good length and depth to them. They're quite enjoyable to get to. I especially liked the frog and the researcher at the lake game overs. Haven't gotten to all of them, though. I missed the "surrender option" box for most of my demo-ing experience.
-Hm, maybe "good" is faint praise. They're unequivocally excellent. The frog, the harpy (forgot about the harpy), that centaur that found a tasty tied up thief… You're doing a really great job on the writing, AW. Please keep it up.
-Choice. I really like the ability to work with the monsters, or just tickle them into oblivion and call it a job well done. I know I haven't seen all the combos, and I'm probably missing some encounters. I have no idea what you're talking about with zombies. Where the hell are zombies? And a deer? A dog? Clearly I haven't gone far enough, although as I understood it Vi was the end.
-Character. Or maybe "characters." The main people in this world look like they have some personality. I liked what you hinted at with Tula, and you've got me curious on her.
-The 4th wall is like a strong spice. A little goes a long way, and makes for a pleasantly spicy experience. Too much can be overbearing. I like what I saw so far, but want to caution you to just cut a hole in the 4th wall, and not bash it down with a sledgehammer. I'm sure you'll get a good balance, AW.
-Secrets. Well, maybe not 'secret' secrets. But secrets that wink at you coquettishly, subtly pushing you to uncover them. All the semi-hidden stuff in here is fun to uncover, and makes me want to scour the landscape for them all. Which I'm apparently doing a terrible job of. C'est la vie.

Suggestions:
-I think I mentioned this to Screamer, and I think its valid to say again here. At least for me, the primary enjoyment comes more from making choices and seeing them played out than the actual combat. However, if I want to go back and see the other choice, I often need to redo a battle. Sometimes a very difficult one. Would it be possible to put a save option post-boss and pre-choice? I feel like this would enhance the experience. Those choices are the reasons to have a bunch of save states.
-Along those lines, it took me a few goes to figure out the skip scenes. Maybe I wasn't paying close attention, but the first time it felt like: "Hey, do you not want to miss the skippable scene by not clicking this button? Say no to agree, but don't choose the other choice if you don't want to see nothing." I think a more intuitive and shorter display could say something like: "Do you want to watch this scene? (Watch/Skip)" As opposed to (Yes/No). I would also suggest "watch" being the default option rather than skip. But maybe I'm on crazy pills here.
-Again on save slots… is there a reason they stop at 16 and not 99? Why not have more? As a compulsive saver, I already had to create an "old save" folder and start anew.

All in all, this is a great teaser for the game. Excellent job of renewing interest.

Hello, I wish to register a complaint.....

I'm all about fair play and balancing in a game, so I was happy when you were getting a chance to work on balancing. But now, there seems to be a snag. I'm going thru the demo with a rogue this time. She's level 6 and I'm trying to take down the octopus girl on the beach. I noticed now that my thief can only equip one weapon, even with two weapon slots, which seems to lower my attack significantly. Not sure if it's meant to be that way or not. The other thing (and this is with Percilla) her paralyze attack is pretty much fight ending. I could have full HP, she lands that attack, fight over. I've counted it lasting 5 rounds to wipe me out.

I'm not really complaining, but it seems a bit odd and unfair, especially considering that I had no trouble with the slime girl, catgirl or the Alarune at level 5-6 (post-nerf). Is it the game or did I just get spoiled by being overpowered in the beginning?

Of course, for "justice".

3Ug8dMM.jpg

Ahhhh I love hearing praise from my hard work! It makes me so happy! Some you will see again, others you won't. Especially depending on what you did to them. I hear a dissolved slime can't come back from that, but who do I know 😛 She does make for a great ticklee though. Hmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmhmmm...You think it's just gonna be the general getting revenge? Hmhmhmhmhm... Oh the stuff I have planned for all of you.

As for the zombie girl, I heard they're attracted to places that have men with large mustachios. Might help. :lol

It's okay, I will play as the nice guy (girl) for now, so the slime girl and her giant boobs are still around for another round.

For big mustachios... It will be hard to find one as large the first one, but I'll do it if it gives me a chance to tickle those soft undead feet again! Or just speak with her, she was funny the first time.

As for the captain... Don't, don't tease us (much) like that XD Can't resist bringing "justice" to the villains.

So how do I get upstairs in the cabin? I have done everything up to the going to sleep in the barracks part and I still cannot get up there =/

I finished the flower girl instead of sparing her. Will this have a negative outcome for me?

Also, IS there a way to visit the Harpy post-battle in the demo or that's just a tease?

PS: Bug Report, I got the "secret scene" with the zombie.

However that scene bugged my walking. If I hold shift, I "run" in normal walking speed. If I DON'T hold it, I might as well be a turtle.

Ok then, I finally got thru everything, did all quests that I could find and beat Vi. So now, I can truly say this was a fantastic demo.

Best scene: Win/release, win/tickle or lose was the zombie thief

Favorite class: Rogue (I like dual wield classes)

Most anticipated part for next chapter: The prison. I have a feeling you're going to outdo yourself on it.

Minor bugs:
1) When using the Tickripple: Feet effect, it says it lasts for 2 rounds, but only does higher damage for the 1st round.
2) When using Tickripple: Belly effect, it says feet when it's executed.
3) None of the store bought weapons are equippable by the rogue. The only ones she could equip was the Captain's feather and the Fuzzy feather found in a chest.

All in all, you have truly created a masterpiece here, AW. I enjoyed running thru it a few times and can't wait to continue pla- er...beta-testing the next installment.

I've seen stuff about this "Zombie" Scene and i can't seem to find it. I've been running about for an hour trying to find the git.... Anyone mind sharing? I also found a scene with a group of wolf chicks and another with a frog... they were pretty fun (couldn't see the lose scene for either though, when you get to lvl6 with a warrior nothing ever seems to be able to damage you)

First of all, you should be able to equip two weapons. I've double checked and now find that all the current weapons except specials couldn't be dual wielded. I've gone in and fixed that. This should make you a lot more powerful.

I looked into Paralysis too, and yes it was way too high. 4 - 6 turns for that is just toooo much. I've adjusted it to 1 - 3.

So a little of a and a little of b.

So how do I get upstairs in the cabin? I have done everything up to the going to sleep in the barracks part and I still cannot get up there =/

You need to finish the Alraune quest and then you need to progress up until you see there are more quests available (before you sleep). Until then, you are not allowed upstairs.

I finished the flower girl instead of sparing her. Will this have a negative outcome for me?

Also, IS there a way to visit the Harpy post-battle in the demo or that's just a tease?

Finishing monsters can have negative outcomes in a variety of ways. Some will end quest chains, some will start quest chains. For her, this will end her quest chain. However, in the Live version, you're going to have to also determine what you want to do. Why? Because if you want to go the Dark path, you're going to have to drive some quest mobs into their ticklish demise.

Many events are timed. If you don't visit the Harpy in this part of the game, she might just end up lost forever. Many areas are not going to be static as you progress through the story; things will change, things will happen. Often these are quest chains that are lost, but some might just be one time quests. Not all quests are like this, and some will always be there until you do them.

And CONGRATULATIONS on getting the secret scene! You're the first person to do so ( I'm assuming, since no one else brought it up 😛). Good detective work on your part! And I know you're telling the truth because you're absolutely correct. At the end of the scene, I forgot to alter the speed. Soooo if you wanna replay the scene, it should be all fixed in the latest version. No more turtle for you.

😀 I'm real glad you loved it. I'm filled with pride at how many people enjoyed the demo. I hope I can continue to meet expectations as the game progresses.

Haha, I have to admit I thoroughly loved that scene too. The zombie girl just turned into such a fun thing to write about for some reason.

The prison is currently being developed (or should I say reworked) as we speak. Just you wait 🙂

Tickripples count the turn you activate them. Remember, this is a party game. As such, you're buffing everyone in the party when you activate it. And considering Rogues are among the top in terms of speed, it's 2 turns the party is going to be buffed to deal massive damage to specific body parts.

And yes, I found this out earlier and fixed the weapons issue. Rogues should now gain a nice buff when it comes to Demo weapons.

Zombies like dark places and can be found in areas located close to mustaches. Be on the lookout for these undead women!

Want the lose scene? You should head back to the first town. Top right corner. Something nice will be waiting for players who want a guaranteed loss. But good job discovering some secret events 🙂

I was expecting this, but okay, I'll restart the game when the next chapter is out anyways, this time for real.

And yeah, I see, but it IS possible to visit her in the demo, then? Where? I found a (SPOILERS?) maybe secret path on the mountains west of Sandy Smiles (OR maybe it's a bug. I can walk in three or four Mountain titles). However it leads nowhere.

It IS possible to see the Harpy in the demo again, or just on the Live version? If it is, how, could you give me a hint?
