[VX Ace] The Laughing Isles

...Damn, another game where I'll finish with a dozen elixirs. On the Diablo front, if we're complaining about what I think we're complaining about (I haven't played Diablo, stuck with ol' Torchlight 2), I heard a not-online version would show up on some kind of Playstation eventually.

Hmm... a shy companion is next? Well, AW, bring her out! She needs as much time as possible to get comfortable around us. Hell, I'll even give her a vintage FF7 Elixir. A 1997 Costa del Sol, an excellent year.

Ka ka ka! That's how TRUE RPG's are! Except I might just throw something that'll make you use even that full dozen! Ohhh whatcha think about that? Think I can make a FF7 Sephiroth battle? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Except this time you don't have Knights of the Round to win in one round. Oooo or maybe a weapon. That'd be fun. Nyeessssssssssss....heh heh heh.

On some kind of PlayStation isn't what I want. At all. Diablo is and always will be a PC game. It's where I began my first days in Tristram, and it's where I ended it in the depths of Hell (well, more so in the Barbarian lands if you go by the Expac). I've enjoyed what I've played of TL 2 though. Brings me back to the good days of Diablo 1 and 2. Minus all the blood and guts and disturbing atmospheres (seriously, I still can walk into Andariel's Lair and the Sisterhood's monastery and just get...disturbed...at the horrific details). Another excellent, if often undervalued, game that that was real close to Diablo 2 was Titan Quest. Check it out if you haven't. The same studio is making another game called Grim Dawn that I'm eagerly waiting for.

D'aawwwww does somebody like the shy types? You want to gush over the easily nervous one? Givin her stuff, you little predator you (then again, your name IS Carnivore 😛 lol). If you like Tula so far, you should like Muca. But there's more to her than meets the eye...oooOOooOOooooowhatdoesitmeeEEEeaaaAAannn?

Status update:

So you're all waiting patiently. I'm sure. Maybe some of you are chomping at the bit. I'm protecting my pizza boxes just in case.

I've decided to actually give you guys more than I originally planned and am creating new content that'll leave you right before Chapter 2 and The West (I was originally planning to give you guys mostly the stuff I disabled but I decided this is better). So you guys are gonna be able to progress through the Escape Tunnels where you were so rudely stopped last time 😉 I've made a few fun things that I hope you'll all enjoy.

I've also got some wonderful news. It looks like I've fixed the Swimsuit! AND you can save, load your game, and swap out equipment without the game crashing. I'll do some tests before I release the Live version just to make sure, but I've already gotten past the issues that plagued the last attempt so that's looking good. I'll also be removing the need to go back to the girl to swap it out, so HOORAY!

And on a final note, I'm fixing bugs (For example, I can't believe you guys never caught this! "Mustachio Man" (love that nickname) has an identity issue from what it looks like, where depending on his face he would lose his sideburns and his shirt would change color!) What's more, let me say this -watch out for Rare Encounters! Sometimes you'll get nice shtuff outta them.
Ticklefly Powder, for example, I just found out hadn't been set up completely! So for SOME users, throwing it did nothing at all to the enemy...because it actually did NOTHING. It was like throwing a leaf at a bull. SO! On Live, if you acquire some Ticklefly Powder, it's actually pretty nice! Chuck it at an enemy and they'll gain a lovely drop in Attack, Defense and Agility for a couple turns as well as a minor poison effect. Pretty nice, eh?

So nyes, slowly but surely I'm working on the release of Live. Keep your eyes open for further updates 🙂

Wait...what?? Additional stuff? Bug fixes? Coming soon?

Never mind, everyone. Go home. False alarm.

You're absolutely intent on killing me with your weapon of choice, aren't you Anime? Anticipation will be the death of me one day.

BTW Slacker, LOL! I've seen that video your gif is from before, but it's been a while. Seeing it again was great! The japaneese are funny bunch.

MUHAHAHAH! I have waited for this moment all my life! xD

Ah ok, wait a second. Let me clarify this since I might be reading it wrong. Did you mean character reveal in game like Tula and the Captain, where you actually met them and interacted? If so, let me apologize and say you won't be getting that until Chapter 2, wherupon you can acquire 2 monster girls (and thus begin the relationship process). I had to giggle at your guesses though, as one is correct. You'll be introduced to the shy girl next.
No you were right, I was speaking more of a behind the scenes reveal. If my guess missed on the cynic, then it may be left up to the shy lead to play the straight man to my group's more awkward moments. Good times.

I shall look forward to future updates.

Lord I loved that character.

Well, I should probably say something about this game. So I will.

WHY FOR I CANT TORTURE THE "end boss"?! I got so damn excited when I beat her!

Anywho, back to the point ^_^. I really liked this game. A lot. I aim to replay it a few times and make sure I didn't miss anything, as it sounds like like I missed out on a few bosses. The writing is done very well, the combat system is basic, but effective, and the prospect of developing relationships is very enticing! All in all, this game ranks up as one of my favorites, right beside Tower of Gargalesis. I really hope "Soon" comes quickly.

Also, disregard Reogen's comment. We are NOT patient. FEED YOUR MASSES ANIME! WE WILL FIND YOU!

I have many weapons, my good sir. Many delicious, ticklish weapons at my disposal. Did I say ticklish? I meant deadly. Yes deadly. And ticklish. Ticklishly deadly. Deadly ticklish.

Yyyesssss...

So... I get to finally use my 40+ ticklefly powders!?
MUHAHAHAH! I have waited for this moment all my life! xD

If by that you mean regather and use your 40+ ticklefly powder...then...YES. 😀

You WOULD be the one who stockpiled them lol. You crazy.

Oh, even I know that is a lie, my dear Reogen. But it's so adorable when you guys play all nice and innocent about it :stickout

God bless that NPC. Well, he is a "god", but still. Bless him. Bless his little mad, mad world. I feel like I should quote that somewhere in my game now.

Lord I loved that character.

Ah then that is easier to do. Yes, you'll be getting Tula-esque reveals. I'm still pondering if I should give a teaser of her in-game in Chapter 1, but I'm unsure how to quite work it. We'll wait and see if I can come up with something that doesn't feel like a mess.

But oh that's quite amusing. Relying on the girl who is probably cowering behind you, to play the straight man. Ho ho, jolly good!

Well, I should probably say something about this game. So I will.

THAT'S the kind of stuff that keeps ya goin. Hearing people wanna replay yer game. Oooo that's such a good feeling. Hell, even if at the end of it all players just open back up the game to load their favorite tickle scenes, I don't care. I'll feel like I accomplished mah job.

I've got a surprise or two for the battle system as well that I think people might enjoy. A throwback to some old RPG's. Nothing too magnificent, but it should be a nice addition.

Ah but such praise, such praise. I hope I continue to be in the same general area as ToG was. I'm looking forward to getting the relationship and private actions working. I think it'll be fun. But goodness know I need to put a warning or two in the game, otherwise I know people will grab the first two monster girls and then cry up a storm when they can't grab the rest (on the one save file they made in t he entire game :lol).

I'm workin on it! I'm workin on it! I've got my list now of things I need to do, and I'm markin them off one by one. The annoying part is writing, as I gotta really dig in to think of something. BUT, now that we're out of Demo-land, I can start thinking up some really nice tickle scenes. -rubs hands together, MENACINGLY- Several of the Live scenes It think people will really like. Mmmm yes yes yes...

Well. Yes. Yes I am. It feels like...someone just handed you the keys to a new car that has self-sustaining energy and looks ballin. You sit in, adore the amazing interior, and then they kick you out and wish you a good day. I WANTED to make her laugh! ...Friggin...talkin bout beatin me...messin wif the world art...

Anywho, Yeah, Replying is going to happen. Frequently. Honestly, I think on the merit of "Torture or Release?" alone should be enough to warrant a few play throughs. And if this kind of praise is what drives you to work...then consider my words a honey-soaked whip. GET TO WORK! ...Cause this game is amazing and deserves to be shared with the world. WORK FASTER! ...Cause the world can't wait for perfection.

...Did...did I help? ...I do good?

…So you're saying I won't be riding a chocobo into battle, using its feathers to tickle centaurs and whatever other enemies are in my path? Fine, I'll walk. A "weapon" would be interesting in your game, although the way the mechanics work, I could see it being harder than Emerald Weapon was. If you do it, at least write an epic game over scene for it.

While I admit my carnivorous nature, actually I'm not one drawn to the shy types. I'm guessing, maybe optimistically, that all your companion characters will have enough personality to them to be enjoyable to interact with. Or some such. Truth be told, I'd probably want to find the playful, energetic type. Although I suppose a well-written character with traits I didn't like could put me off. "Man, was Muca clingy and annoying. Good thing I left her behind!" But… there's more than meets the eye? What could that mean? Wait, Muca is a transformer?! It all makes sense now!

Hahaha well, I came up with the whole "win scene" as a means to...well...heh heh heh. You're proving the reaction I was looking for. The "OMG! I REALLY WANTED TO TICKLE THAT!!" just makes me smile with glee. It was totally trollish, but at the same time, considering what Vi's design is originally built on (which still make me cringe when I look at it), you'd expect something a little less trolly? 😉 Ohhhh the surprises I have in store for yoooouuuu...!

Lol! Honey soaked whips. That's such an odd image. Do expect a couple playthroughs at least, depending on how you play. You won't be seeing a good bit of scenes, like for example with the monster girls, because (and I'm still looking into this, but I think I already know how), once you get a certain amount of points towards one you'll now be on her path and you cut off any other girl going further in a relationship. So you will miss out on scenes guaranteed with one playthrough. And considering there are 5 datable party members in the game...well...yea. 🙂

*cough*

Star Ocean? Persona?

😛 Question is, which way are you loading up and watching the scenes? Hmmm? Haha. But I've done this with many games too. I'll put a save right at the spot and go at it, whether a loss scene (usually) or a win...rarely a win actually since there's so few designed like that and they're not always the best.

Star Ocean! Star Ocean 1 and 2 specifically because...blegh to the rest. These were the best. You'll be able to go to places that you've visited before and have private actions with your party members, which will increase your relationship score with them. I've already got some good material for Tula that I'll impliment later, and Muca as well as a few scenes here and there for others. There will, of course, also be scenes involving specific party combinations. Hm hm hm, I decided on that with one girl in particular in mind (well 2 technically).

…So you're saying I won't be riding a chocobo into battle, using its feathers to tickle centaurs and whatever other enemies are in my path? Fine, I'll walk. -scribbles down notes-

Heh, no that just sounds too silly, Carn. You and I both know Chocobos don't exist in this world. You silly. :stickout

I've already got some epic ideas for special bosses in mind, and I'm sure they'll knock your socks off. After your first loss, I'm sure you'll definitely want to use the "Skip Scene" option.

Well I hope I can make due with that promise that all girls will be likeable. Based of the girls you've seen so far, whatcha think? Granted, you've only scratched the tip, but still.
...Eh maybe it is too soon to be asking that. But as you progress with the girls you'll get to see a lot more of their personality, and the deeper in the relationship you go, the more things you'll discover that you COULDN'T see on the surface.
But hey, if one of them has a personality you don't like, then you can of course leave her behind. There's 4 more options to choose from after all.

CURSES! I knew I shouldn't have used that! Now Muca changing into a fern won't come off as a surprise anymore! Damn you Carn and your inquisitive mind!

Sorry I'm late to the party, are there any snacks left? 🙂

I LOVE this game. Or this demo. Whatever you want to call it, it's good. It seemed I was cracking a smile every three minutes, and your text even had me laughing a few times. And when I heard the Chocobo theme song play during the battle... blimey, I swear my sides were going to burst!

This is my general feedback in case you're still looking for some. Granted, you've got a lot of people on here already doing that for you and one voice probably won't make a difference, but it's here if you want it. Though the message of this entire post can be summarized as "it kicks ass so keep working on it" - that's the short version.

Started the game as a mage (because we won't be stopped by your armor man) and promptly died as soon as I left the village and tried to do a random encounter. Quite embarrassingly really. And that wasn't even my first game over, I lost to the plump slime in the tutorial. Twice. I guess I'm just not meant to be a mage. After reading all the stuff on here about its magic artillery and how it even had a badass melee attack, my confidence took a severe dip.

Then I started again as a paladin, and the world was happy.

Those are the only two classes I've played though, so I can't say about how they balance overall. I tried spamming the magic attack as the mage, and I still ended up dying to centaurs and other things that I can't remember now. Like I said, I was probably playing it wrong somehow, so I'll give it another shot when I finally beat Vi. As for the paladin, well, I don't think it's OP necessarily but it sort of felt that way coming from my previous experience with the mage. By contrast, I could literally sit there twiddling my thumbs and just tank up the damage. I know that's the point of the class, but even my damage seemed to be pretty good - I was doing more than the monsters by level two, and the red oni underlings were one-hit kills. That might have been intentional, probably was actually, but I just thought I'd report on that.

Noticed some bugs, or things that looked like bugs, that kind of cropped up here and there. The most common one I found is words going off the side of the screen, too big for the text box. It's not too frequent, but it occurs often enough to stick in my memory. Also, the old man who trains Nadya (whose name I forget - DUR) has no face at the end of his movement tutorial. Seeing as most sprites don't have accompanying faces this might have been intentional, but since he's always had a face before I thought it kind of odd. Another thing I noticed was that, in some cases, characters that I met for the first time had dialogue that suggested that we'd talked before, and I know we didn't. This happens with the girl in the village who gives you her letter, the potion shopkeeper (just a small thing - "welcome back" or along those lines), the female bartender in the inn.

These are all really minor, but I just thought I'd say them here just in case it helps. I haven't read the entirety of this thread though, so someone else has probably picked up on these already, or I have some unique problems with my version. There are some other things I noticed, but I'll have to look through the game again to confirm. Overall very good so far as demos go - you've smushed most of the cockroaches, I've just noticed some annoying flies buzzing around.

One last thing before I check out though, and it's more of a thought than an actual feedback. I don't know whether this affects everyone or just me, but except for Vi the targeted tickles don't do any modulation to the damage. As in, very few monsters I've noticed have weak spots. This might have been intentional, I might have missed something, but it just seems like a lot of wasted effort if there aren't any weak spots that can be targeted. That said, I'm playing as a paladin and the difference might just be too minuscule for me to see.

Looking forward to more of this, and kudos for getting this up! OH yes, and double kudos for having that one random encounter with the scared ticklefly and the two harpy-whatchamacallits. It stuck in my mind because it's the kind of situation that really struck out at me from the usual drudge of press Z until everything's dead, so props for that. Hope you keep going with this, I can definitely see this being the next ToG, probably even surpassing that if the content gets packed on heavily enough.

Sorry, I ramble. In short: kickass job, eager for more!

You know, Anime, "soon" seems to be taking an awfully long time. Think you could be kind enough to give us, at least, a status update?

Sad... and I was looking forward to the other companions... Ah well. Good luck AnimeWatcher. Good luck on your Dota-ing. Stay out of that jungle. Or whatever the kids these days so about Dota.

I pulled a game title out of a hat. I actually have no clue where he went, but it doesn't seem like he's here.
