I would say 97 times out of 100 meeting an online friend especially a romantic interest never works out. First you are lucky if you get the person to meet you because there are so many con-artists and wackos in the web and second you lose so much of a persons personality just by emailing or chatting that your suddenly faced to deal with when your in that person's company for real if it ever gets that far.

If I encountered someone that I live near, and I mean same city near then I would do it. Otherwise, I just don't have the time nor the means, currently, to go and meet someone from online if they lived elsewhere. Money, or lack thereof, is a big thing with me unfortunately...which is why I'm going to do my best to go to NEST. At least there I may have an opportunity to meet some of you, I hope. 🙂

Since usually it's only after I've known someone for weeks or months (or years) before she finds out how ticklish I am and starts exploiting it, it would actually be very weird to meet people who already know, before we've ever met, how ticklish I am (and where!).

I would say so. I've known several people try that route and it failed miserably, myself included.

But now I'm one of the lucky 3% in which it <i>did</i> work out, so I can't really talk.

NO NO NO NO NO NO....it is never wise to meet someone online in RL. 3 reasons.

1. There is a major difference in personality between the screen and the physical. Sure you might be funny and witty online but in RL you're probably too tramatized to actually approach a contact.
2. There is no evidence that a person really exsist. Like all of us are actually be represented by our avatars. Take mine, am I a little blue guy with one arm up and one down? No. You believe that picture on my space is actually a hot girl? It might as well be a naked, sweaty dude in Canada.
3. Too much risk involve. You want to take a chance on someone who is possibly a crazy murderer or preditor? That's your chance.

But hey it's your dissicion, don't let me scare you out of it.

I have voted yes, but till now it has only been the case with friends, both male and female. I am more comfortable with meeting girlfriends in real life, and if I were to correspond with a girl I'd fall in love with; I think that would grow after I have met her physically. 😉
