I want to thank you for encouraging me to look up what kohai meant. I learned a thing!
You are quite welcome lol. You've now gained a new word for your personal dictionary ^^
Well depending on how you look at it, officially finishing a game at this point would technically be an improvement. Or at least a new record right?
I kid.
All kidding aside, finishing this game is so far down the future. If I'd say anything - getting more than Deus did for his game would feel like a pat on the back to me lol. So...what...1 more chapter minimum?
Looking forward to the new content, regardless of how long it takes. Im thinking of making my own games but not sure whether to go with the new MV or an older version. I am pretty good at coding so I assume the new MV is the way to go?
In case your question was relevant only to RPG Maker - allow me to add my own opinion as someone who has been used to RPG Maker for a while now.
There are truly only 3 options for you right now - RPG Maker XP, RPG Maker Ace, and RPG Maker MV.
RPG Maker XP is very old at this point, with its own, unique style. Its sprites are less chibi and more natural looking compared to RPG Maker Ace/MV, so characters and environments are a little more natural. This version is the oldest of the 3 and has a vast library of resources available online from other creators.
Its controls are more clunky and a little bit less user friendly compared to the newer versions, but it does have the advantage of having the more robust environment creator. You actually have 3 layers to work with minimum, so you can blend, overlap and create vastly superior maps compared to Ace and MV. Unlike Ace and MV, XP also used curved tiles, which gave things like cliffs, water and paths more of a natural feel.
Unlike Ace and MV, however, XP does NOT have a built-in generator for character sprites, so you'll need to use 3rd-party resources to make custom sprites.
RPG Maker Ace (we're going to skip VX since Ace is VX+ essentially) is the last iteration to use Ruby for its scripts. User friendly, well built, colorful and more into the chibi style that RPG Maker likes using as its default, Ace is a strong engine. Here's the big difference between Ace and MV - time. Ace has been out a lot longer and many people learned Ruby for RPG Maker since that's what it constantly used.
As such, Ace has vastly more resources compared to MV as well as more options on what you can do with scripts.
Unlike XP, Ace moved to the more form fitting square tilesets where everything had less curve, less wave, and more structured designs. You can still find curved tilesets to mimic how it was in XP, but you won't get it straight out of the box. Also, know that Ace has the weakest map creator of the 3 since it only has a 'pseudo' 3rd layer.
RPG Maker MV is the newest version of RPG Maker. Compared to XP and Ace, MV brought back tons of built in options and ability for customization. One thing it has that Ace and XP didn't have is variant battle systems by default (the others required scripts). You can choose either the front-view battle system (my game and those like it made with Ace/VX/XP) or the side-view battle system (BrewedWar's WHM game, since it's MV and uses it as default).
The generator inside also includes the side-view battle sprites, unlike Ace, so if you custom make characters you'll also have the option to have the full range for both battle systems.
MV's generator also did away with the front-facing faces Ace had, which can come off a little unnerving compared to those looking slightly away from the player (all a preference thing, though).
Compared to XP and Ace, MV has a lot less 3rd party resources since it moved from Ruby to Javascript, but MV can be played on smartphones and through browsers compared to just hard-copies on Windows that Ace and XP have. This goes for both graphics and scripts, so the options that you can do with games are limited vs Ace and XP right now (even months later, people aren't jumping or converting their scripts as readily as hoped. Still doesn't mean things won't happen, but they're going to need a lot more time).
MV falls short of having XP's awesome map maker, but it does get rid of the pseudo 3rd layer Ace had. XP's map maker allows you full control of all 3 layers, with the ability to swap between each and every one like they were their own pages. Ace and MV have an "one layer fits all" option that let's the engine decide what can be stacked ontop of another (with you being able to manage it through the tileset editor).
One last bit of info - Ace and XP tend to go for dirt cheap during sales, XP in particular unless you hit a good holiday or special. MV, being the newest, won't drop in price compared to the others more than 50% right now - so expect to pay the most for it.
In the end, it's up to you - though I would personally say Ace or MV for your choice, despite XP having the best map maker in it. You don't need to know a lick of code to design RPG Maker games - just a lot of determination, time, and practice. Coding will help, however, when custom scripts come into play; you'll more easily understand codes, find bugs in other creator's codes, and have the potential to write your own if nothing meets what you want.
Hope this helps.
"Soon TM" xD :stickout Are you trying to crank it out like tonight/tomorrow? Or are you waiting till this coming weekend? Glad to see everything coming along smoothly for you. It's gonna be amazing! :lol
The Soon TM is what I should be using from now on instead of giving dates. :lol
My tester and I have already been through some things, but it became too late so we're going to continue with everything tomorrow. I've already patched up some major things, including a rogue script that crashed the game during battles while doing absolutely nothing lol.
