    Stan Freberg

In the late 50's, Stan Freberg's work represented my earliest realization that actual comedy genius existed,.. and he sure seemed to have fun with it. He made the satirical "America" recordings,... the Dragnet take-offs,... and is considered the father of the "funny commercial." He died...

On this day,.. in the year 2000,....

The TMF was founded. Says so on the front page banner, so it's the group's birthday, right? I hadn't noticed anyone else remarking about the anniversary,..... still technically underage, I guess. At any rate, Happy Birthday, TMF.

    According to the masthead...

Today is the TMF's 14th birthday. Happy birthday, group. Nice work.

Car Talk's Tom Magliozzi deat at 77

Car Talk has been one of my favorites for 20 years,... literally an almost-every Saturday morning tradition. Ray and Tom certainly seemed to enjoy what they were doing, they were pretty sharp at it... and they doubtless helped a lot of folks with their car issues. And they were hilarious...

Inquiry for some of you more cyber-inclined,..

---In the space of 30 hours last week, I had my computer invaded by something called the istart123 browser hijack virus,... and was able to get a skilled buddy in to flush the fucking thing out of the system. All's well, but I'm only relieved - not happy. Googling the virus by name turns up...

Being logged out during lengthy posts/replies

I'm finding that if I take more than about 15 minutes on a post or a reply to a post, I will have been logged out when I hit "submit post." Is that my operating system or something with the forum? Auto-save will show me exactly where it logged off. Very frustrating to spend time on something...

    Weather Report, 12/24

Stepped out on the balcony for a cigarette around 6 AM and damned if it wasn't snowing. A quick check of the online weather forecast suggested that a light snow could continue through the morning, anyway. Technically speaking, I think this has to count as a White Christmas, no? For reference...

    An old story,....

From the mid-90's,....... entitled "A Ticklish Reunion." Originally 35 or so actual typed pages, so I'm probably looking for an old Xerox copy. Story concerns a young guy and his tickle-averse wife being visited by her gorgeous cousin, an on-air MTV personality. Long shot, I know.

    I'm tired of this

Guys wearing masks and hoods in tickling clips. Are you actually that ugly and disgusting? (I believe you are) Are you trying to protect your identities for IRS purposes? Do you think this makes a better clip? Well, you're wrong in all three cases,.... There's not a one of you whom I would not...

    A little story

Susan had been out shopping during the evening. I think she went with one of her girlfriends. I was at home,... maybe working on an article, but probably just goofing off. I'm extremely unreliable when it comes to "working from home.": It's a deficiency I've cultivated. She came flying in...

    Funeral expenses

An attorney had passed away unexpectedly. Heart attack. It was discovered that his finances were a disaster,....he had blown everything on gambling and hookers. There was not even enough money to bury him. One of his friends took it upon himself to try and raise enough money for a decent...

    Here's a rant for ya

I've been trying to do some serious stuff lately,.... and that necessarily means having to depend on other people in various capacities. The results of this have been terrifying. In my professional work and yes, in my social life, too, I come in contact with bankers and business people...

    Slow day at the Bay

It had to have been a Saturday because Susan and I were both at home in our beach house on the Chesapeake,... at the same time. This, in itself, was rare. We both had to travel a lot,... and I loved just being at home with my wife. We were both pretending to work. Susan was shuffling around...

    Gather 'round,... all you clowns.

Boy,... here's a post that won't get many responses. But in fairness, it's only intended as an official,.... and hopefully final disclosure. To all the guys who have PM'd me with the insane and loathsome delusion that I could in any way be open to having them jet in so that they could "help"...

Susan: Feeling Self-Conscious When You're 100 feet Underwater

One of the inescapable realities of living on the Chesapeake Bay is that you occasionally wake up on the wrong side of it. Now, my personal favorite way to solve this problem involved my sailboat, but this was not always practical. That's why we had this thing called the Bay Bridge Tunnel...

    Television tropes and idiioms

Probably this website has been mentioned in here, before - I don't keep up, so I wouldn't know. But this is a goldmine,... not just a list, but an explanatory review, as well. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FootFocus

Lotta Birthdays Today,.. but only one counts

Wilbur Wright,.... Ann Romney,... Henry Mancini,... and a bunch of others, too. But today is also the 114th birthday of Charles Chaplin, the "little tramp" of silent movie fame,.... but he was a lot more than what folks saw on the screen. A couple of years ago, a friend gave me the complete...

    Today is Hugh Hefner's Birthday

Hef turns 87 today. Can't say I was ever a big fan of his style or image through the years (some of the interviews were good, though),... but all of us sort of do owe him a little gratitude for beginning the process of getting things opened up and elevated. Without that, we might not be...

    Hello again, Fenway

Apparently the reports of the Red Sox demise were somewhat exaggerated. Still early, of course, but 2 games in front is 2 games in front. I think what we're seeing is that elusive thing called chemistry.

    The Out-of-the-Blue Lolita One-Eighty

Watched Lolita last night,.... the '97 version with Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain. I've seen it several times, as I have Stanley Kubrick's 1962 adaptation of the Nabokov novel,... with James Mason and Sue Lyon. Of course I had to wait a few years to see that one,.. but I'd read the book...
